“what are you guys doing?”

tang rui returned to the company and found a group of people all staring blankly and playing with their phones. no one was working.

there was, however, one exception.

feng yuanxing sat in front of the computer and typed on the keyboard, but he did not seem to be working.

how could this be happening? he had only been gone for half a day, and these people were already slacking off? might as well consider this a charity.

“president tang, are you alright?” an employee asked cautiously.

“what could happen to me? it’s you guys who are going to be in trouble.

playing with your phones during working hours and daydreaming will result in deductions from your performance bonus this month.” after tang rui finished speaking, he returned to his office with a stern expression. his good mood had vanished. he hadn’t expected this. even this group of hardworking people who had been beaten down by society were beginning to slack off. good employees were hard to find.

knock knock… tang rui had just settled into his chair when he heard a knock on the door. “come in.”

feng yuanxing pushed the door open and entered. “old feng, what’s the matter?” tang rui asked with a hint of curiosity.

“president tang, this is the information i collected earlier and the information i’ve organized just now.” feng yuanxing placed a stack of documents on his desk.

information? what kind of information? tang rui was intrigued as he picked up the pile of documents that was three centimeters thick. he flipped it open and was left dumbfounded. the list contained a variety of public relations methods, procedures, and emergency solutions for various troublesome problems.

what to do if the boss runs away with his sister-in-law? how to handle the boss being caught drunk driving and minimize the negative impact? boss… what was all this? tang rui looked at feng yuanxing, who seemed helpless, and was at a loss for words.

“president tang, is this information not helpful?”

“completely useless.” tang rui shook his head, feeling speechless.

feng yuanxing frowned, a bit troubled by the fact that so many public relations cases and whitewashing procedures had gone to waste. indeed, his previous experiences dealing with bosses who were, at most, arrested by the police, were not applicable here. the level of this situation was much higher.

“boss, is the matter particularly serious?”

“serious? what are you thinking? it’s nothing.” tang rui’s dismissive tone relieved feng yuanxing. at least it wasn’t something catastrophic. there was still a chance to salvage the situation. he had worked hard to get this job back; the company couldn’t afford another downfall. if it were to fail, he’d struggle to find a foothold in the industry.

“president tang, we should sincerely apologize and express our stance in this situation. then, we need to work on improving our company’s image, such as making donations. afterward, we must continue to rectify the situation. there are three key points you need to focus on. the first point…”

feng yuanxing began his lengthy speech with a serious expression.

tang rui’s attention waned as he listened. if it weren’t for the fact that he had seen feng yuanxing’s resume and knew his level of expertise, he would have completely tuned out.

what feng yuanxing was saying now… was it even believable? was he an engineer? he seemed to be an expert in corporate crisis public relations.

“old feng…”

“president tang, please go ahead.”

“your skills are truly wasted here at crimson.”

“no, no, president tang. i love this job. if you allow me to handle this matter, i promise to mitigate all the negative effects.”

“no, what i mean is, if you join brother chicken’s team, they’ll treat you like a deity.”

feng yuanxing was speechless. president tang, are you even listening to me? this isn’t a joke.

as feng yuanxing was about to share his experience to make tang rui understand the gravity of the situation, tang rui placed a document bag on the table in front of him.

“president tang, what’s this?”

“you’ll find out when you open it.” tang rui was done explaining. he felt mentally drained.

feng yuanxing opened the document bag and untied the rope with trembling hands. he was apprehensive that there might be a court verdict inside.

when he finally opened it and saw the military’s five certificates, he jumped up with excitement. “boss, these aren’t fake certificates, are they? creating fake certificates is illegal.”

feng yuanxing’s eyes seemed to well up with tears.

tang rui took a deep breath, attempting to suppress his frustration. “this was sent to me by the military commander. take a close look at the official seal.”

with that said, he closed his eyes, exasperated and no longer interested in the details.

hmm? it does look real.

feng yuanxing examined the certificates from various angles, scrutinizing every detail under the light. he couldn’t find any signs of forgery, no matter how hard he looked.

sob, sob, sob…

what was with the sobbing? tang rui straightened up, opened his eyes, and saw feng yuanxing wiping away his tears.

what’s going on? why is he crying? you’re a man in your forties; why are you crying like this in my office? you’re ruining my reputation.

“what’s wrong with you now?”

tang rui’s anxiety was evident in his northeastern dialect.

“president tang, i’m just… i’m just so relieved. with the police orders and these five military certificates, i don’t have to worry about the company going under.”

feng yuanxing was genuinely moved. after all these years, he couldn’t express how much he’d struggled and suffered. he was a capable engineer, yet he’d been forced to learn crisis management.

tang rui furrowed his brows, his expression one of perplexity mixed with a hint of amusement. so you were worried about the company going under? but come to think of it, it made sense. if it weren’t for tang rui tricking him, feng yuanxing probably wouldn’t have dared to take on this task.

“old feng, don’t worry. just focus on doing your job well, and don’t worry about anything else.”

“okay, i understand. don’t worry, president tang. i promise to give it my all.”

feng yuanxing wiped his tears away and said with great emotion.

“alright, now go and tell the others not to overthink things. get back to work and give it your best. if you deliver results, you’ll receive a bonus.”

“understood, tang. i’ll let everyone know immediately.”

feng yuanxing turned to leave the office. just as he was opening the door, he turned back.

“is there something else?”

tang rui looked at feng yuanxing, who had retraced his steps, with bewilderment.

“well… president tang… i know of a safe place… a place where the police won’t investigate… even if it requires some money, we shouldn’t break any laws.”

“get out!”

once feng yuanxing left, tang rui leaned back in his chair and stared at the ceiling helplessly. that last bit really had his head spinning. what kind of thought process was this? after a while, he picked up the document bag and took out the five military certificates, placing them neatly on the table.

as he looked at the five certificates before him, a sense of contentment washed over him. the company’s last remaining flaw had been resolved. now they could speed up their development. no more worries about the components, no more worries about other issues. he had initially estimated that creating a large drone would take several months. now, they didn’t need nearly as much time..
