The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

”Ningning, you should marry Jun Hao.”

Ms. Li pushed the door open and immediately called out to Anning.

Anning was almost amused out of anger.

Ms. Li accused others of being ungrateful and heartless, but she herself was truly the indifferent and selfish one.

She clearly knew that Rong Junhao had been lying in bed as a vegetative patient for over a year, and doctors had said he may never wake up. Yet, at this moment, she uttered the words asking Anning to marry Rong Junhao, only because she feared Anning would leave them behind. She wanted to bind Anning closely to the Rong Family, to have her serve them tirelessly, which was sheer selfishness to the extreme.

”Auntie, let’s talk outside.”

Anning pulled Ms. Li out the door.

At this point, Anning cared little for courtesy, and even less for what Ms. Li might think.

As she walked, Anning spoke: ”Auntie, aside from discussing the professional manager issue, I also have something else to say. I want to break off my engagement with Brother Jun Hao.”

”Break off the engagement?”

Ms. Li exclaimed in shock, then looked at Anning with a face full of reproach: ”How can you say such a thing? How can you... Yes, Jun Hao is now a vegetable, but you can’t just abandon him because he’s ill. Ningning, I believe I’ve been truly devoted to you, and Jun Hao has always treated you very well, without a bit of neglect, yet you’re being so selfish, you...”

Anning felt she had had enough: ”Auntie, no matter what, I can’t possibly wait for Brother Jun Hao my whole life, can I? I’m the only daughter in my family, not only do I have to take care of the Rong Family, my primary responsibility is to take care of our Yun Family. Yun Family is my dad’s lifetime work, and I have to manage it well, expand and develop it. Moreover, I need to leave an heir for our Yun Family. In this situation with Brother Jun Hao... Auntie says I’m selfish, but aren’t you selfish too? Besides, you say you’ve been devotedly good to me, but I haven’t felt it. I’ve taken over Mrs. Rong for more than a year now, do you know how difficult it was for me at first? I haven’t seen you ask me once. My mom still occasionally cooks food for me, shows concern if I’m tired, but you? Have you cared about me even once? Brother Jun Hao lies there immobile, you can still move and walk, why haven’t you shown a bit of compassion for me?”

The more Anning spoke, the more emotional she became: ”I’ve worked tirelessly half my life for your Rong Family, yet I haven’t heard a single word of gratitude from you, now you accuse me of being heartless. Auntie, I’ve really had enough. I’m not a deity, I’m just a person. I get tired, I feel sad and troubled, I need someone to care about me too. I haven’t felt an ounce of it in the Rong Family.”

She covered her face and started to cry: ”I’m truly sorry, I’m a bit emotional. If I’ve said anything harsh, please don’t take it to heart. You’re an elder, you probably won’t stoop to my level.”

Ms. Li’s face turned ashen with anger, but she couldn’t bring herself to blame Anning.

She honestly understood inside, the words she spoke just now were indeed inappropriate, Rong Junhao had ended up like that, he might well be bedridden for a long time, and the future was uncertain.

The Rong Family should not use past affections to demand Anning stay with Rong Junhao. Anning is still young, she has a bright future, that future should not be ruined by the Rong Family.

Not to mention, Anning only got engaged to Rong Junhao, even if they were married, given Rong Junhao’s condition, if Anning wanted a divorce, the Rong Family should let her go.

”Auntie, I truly can’t hold on any longer.” Anning wiped her tears and looked firmly at Ms. Li: ”I was only twenty-one when I took over the company, I knew nothing, I forced myself to learn, no one taught me, no one guided me...”

Ms. Li sighed: ”Are you really going to break the engagement?”

Anning nodded.

Ms. Li wiped a tear: ”Wait, I’ll get the tokens.”

She went upstairs, and when she came down, she was holding a Jade Pendant. It was a family heirloom given by the Yun Family to the Rong Family when the engagement was arranged.

Ms. Li handed the Jade Pendant to Anning, and Anning also took out a hereditary necklace from her bag that the Rong Family gave to the Yun Family: ”Uncle Rong gave this to me back then, Auntie, please keep it safe.”

”Alright.”

Ms. Li patted Anning’s hand: ”The engagement is dissolved, but the relationship between our families remains. If you ever need anything, come to me. If you have the time, do visit Jun Hao.”

”I will.” Anning replied.
