The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

She leaned over again and asked Mrs. Xia, ”How’s the other side?”

”Manman’s boyfriend is from the same school as her. He looks great. His family knows he wants to develop in Su Hai, so they bought him a house there. Now he has both house and car, and their family conditions are quite good.”

Mrs. Xia said a few words with a smile and left.

She just said a few vague words and didn’t mention the specifics.

Of course, she wouldn’t reveal all the details about the Xi Family, and she wouldn’t tell people that Xia Man is now working as an assistant to Anning, and that Xi Jingchen is learning at the company under Xiao Yuan.

After Mrs. Xia left, Teacher Sun started discussing with others: ”Teacher Wu is really lucky. Look how worry-free her Manman is. The child has been sensible since childhood, does well in studies, is good-looking, and got into a good university during the college entrance exams. Now she’s about to graduate and has already found a partner. As soon as she graduates, she’ll be getting married. I don’t know where Teacher Wu gets such good fortune, having such a wonderful daughter.”

Exactly, the teachers around Mrs. Xia’s age are all envious.

Mrs. Xia came out of the school and saw Mr. Xia waiting by the car at the school gate.

She quickly got into the car, ”Where did you borrow this car from?”

Mr. Xia smiled, ”From a colleague at work.”

Since Anning and her group were four people, the Xia Family’s car couldn’t fit so many. So, Mr. Xia borrowed a seven-seater from a colleague.

Mr. Xia and Mrs. Xia drove to the airport and soon picked up all four of Anning’s group.

Mr. Xia had booked the hotel in advance and asked Anning after picking them up, ”Aunt Tao, do you want to rest at the hotel first?”

Anning waved her hand, ”No need, we’re not tired. Let’s go home first.”

”Alright.” Mr. Xia drove for more than an hour before reaching home.

Mrs. Xia had already prepared everything beforehand, and Mr. Xia, before he left, had also prepared the dishes to be cooked. Upon returning, he immediately started cooking.

Xi Jingchen saw Mr. Xia entering the kitchen, rolled up his sleeves, and followed in.

Soon after, Xi Jingchen was pushed out by Mr. Xia.

Anning glared at Xi Zhenhua, ”Letting the in-law cook, are you serious? Hurry up and help.”

Mrs. Xia quickly said, ”No, no, let Old Xia handle it. He can do it alone.”

With a smile, Xi Zhenhua went into the kitchen and this time didn’t come out.

Anning held Mrs. Xia’s hand, ”Let him help.”

She then looked at Xi Jingchen and Xia Man, ”You two go have fun, don’t mind us.”

Xia Man smiled, took Xi Jingchen’s hand, and went to her room to chat secretly.

Anning sat on the sofa holding Mrs. Xia’s hand and chatting, ”I’ve always wanted to meet you, but we’re far apart. Only today did I get the chance. Upon meeting, I feel it’s great, and I’m sure we’ll get along well.”

”I think you’re great too. You look especially young and beautiful, no wonder you’ve raised such a wonderful child like Jingchen. Upon closer look, Jingchen resembles you, possessing such an ethereal presence.”

Mrs. Xia complimented Anning a few times as well. She was speaking the truth, as Anning was surprisingly beautiful, so much so that as a woman herself, Mrs. Xia was captivated. Mrs. Xia thought, no wonder she could marry a wealthy man at such an age, with that appearance and figure, what kind of man wouldn’t?

”Stop flattering me; I’m just an ordinary person.” Anning smiled and whispered, holding Mrs. Xia’s hand, ”Let’s skip the formalities. I’ll be frank, I’ll cultivate Manman as soon as possible, my company will be left for her in the future. As long as she has the ability to take over, I assure you, I’ll step back without hesitation.”

”This is not right.” Mrs. Xia quickly waved her hand, ”That’s yours...”

”If the children have the ability, I’ll definitely support them.” Anning quickly interrupted Mrs. Xia, ”The other thing is the children have a genuinely good relationship. I was thinking about settling this matter first, and let them get married after graduation. I’ve prepared the marital home, just waiting for Manman’s consent.”

Anning said all this at once, ”As for after they get married, you don’t need to worry. Mr. Jingchen is still young, he has ten years to retirement, and he definitely won’t go to Su Hai during that time. Mrs. Jingchen has a son and certainly wouldn’t live with Jingchen. As for me, I won’t meddle in the young couple’s affairs. After their marriage, they’ll have their world. When they have children and need our help, I’ll step in, if not, we’ll hire a nanny, and won’t let Manman be exhausted. Does this arrangement sound good?”

How could it not be good? There’s simply no more considerate family than this.

Mrs. Xia had been smiling from ear to ear for a while now, ”You’re really indulging the kids.”

”For our own kids, of course, we should indulge.” Anning patted Mrs. Xia’s hand, ”If you have no objections, we’ll settle it now.”

As she spoke, she took out a red envelope and handed it to Mrs. Xia, ”This is the engagement gift for you to keep.”

”No, can’t accept that.”

Mrs. Xia immediately declined as if she had been scalded, ”We don’t really practice this anymore. I just hope Manman finds someone she loves, and they live a good life together. Manman’s dad and I are not concerned with these engagement dowries, besides, we both have salaries, we have a house and a car here, life is quite good too, how can we...”

”Take it.” Anning said solemnly, ”Whether you want it or not is your decision, whether we give it or not is ours. This engagement gift must be given, regardless of the amount, we must show our respect for Manman.”

Anning had spoken so clearly, Mrs. Xia had no choice but to accept.

She was now feeling quite dazed.

She really hadn’t expected to finalize Xia Man’s marriage today. She had initially thought to evaluate Xi Jingchen further but hadn’t expected that Anning would lead her a merry dance in just a brief moment, and she unknowingly accepted the engagement gift.

With the money taken, backing out now would be inappropriate.

If the money were returned after acceptance, it would be an affront to the groom’s family, which was certainly unacceptable.

If Xia Man didn’t like Xi Jingchen, Mrs. Xia would definitely return the money, but she knew Xia Man’s deep love for Xi Jingchen, and the two would inevitably marry, so she certainly couldn’t play the villain.

When the meal was ready, Xia Man and Xi Jingchen came out of the room to eat, and Anning gestured to Xi Jingchen.

Xi Jingchen saw and smiled.

Anning’s gesture signaled to Xi Jingchen that everything was settled.

Xi Jingchen felt extremely at ease.

He thought, indeed, when Grandma is involved, everything is handled without a hitch. With Grandma around, nothing is insurmountable.
