The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Xiao Yuan and Xiao Tong came with the tokens from when the two families were engaged.

Xiao Yuan placed the items on the table.

Mr. Fu then asked Mrs. Fu to bring the jade pendant given by the Xiao Family back then and hand it to Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan took it in his hand, but did not give it to Xiao Tong. He kept it himself.

Then, Xiao Yuan looked at Xiao Tong: ”Alright, the engagement is canceled, let’s go.”

He stood up and smiled at Mr. Fu: ”Tongtong hasn’t been in a good mood lately, I need to take her home to comfort her, we won’t bother you anymore.”

Mr. Fu understood and stood up to see Xiao Yuan and Xiao Tong off.

After these two left, Mr. Fu called Fu Xinhong.

”Where are you?”

Fu Xinhong was out with Bai Meng: ”I’m outside.”

”Come back immediately.”

Mr. Fu sounded particularly stern, faintly angry.

Fu Xinhong didn’t dare to linger: ”Okay, I’ll come right back.”

He didn’t ask what was going on, just coaxed Bai Meng a bit and drove home.

When Fu Xinhong returned home, Fu Xinjiang was already back.

Fu Xinjiang was asking Mr. Fu: ”Dad, did Xiao Tong and my brother break off the engagement?”

Mr. Fu looked at Fu Xinjiang: ”How do you know?”

Fu Xinjiang opened Xiao Tong’s social media on his phone: ”See for yourself.”

Mr. Fu saw Xiao Tong’s new post: Part ways, find happiness.

He sighed: ”It seems Tongtong has truly let go.”

Fu Xinhong heard these words as soon as he entered.

For some reason, he felt a bit stifled inside.

”Dad.”

He called out.

Mr. Fu, angry, picked up a cup and threw it at Fu Xinhong: ”You still know to come back, Tongtong is a good child, you just... Do you know how much effort I put in back then to get you engaged to Tongtong, you...”

Fu Xinhong dodged the cup and quickly walked to the sofa: ”But I really don’t like her, I’ve tried, but I just can’t.”

”Why did you agree in the first place?”

Mr. Fu really wanted to pry open Fu Xinhong’s head to see what was inside.

”I asked you at the time, and you said you were willing.”

Fu Xinhong hung his head and said nothing.

Fu Xinjiang quickly persuaded Mr. Fu: ”Dad, don’t be angry. Since the engagement’s been canceled, don’t scold my brother anymore. My brother likes Bai Meng, let them be together, it’s not easy finding someone you truly like, right?”

Fu Xinjiang also dug a hole for Fu Xinhong: ”Bro, I support you now, when I find someone I like in the future, you have to support me too.”

Fu Xinhong really cares about this younger brother.

He nodded: ”Of course, in the future, no matter who you fall for, I’ll support you.”

”I’ve recorded it, you can’t go back on your word.” Fu Xinjiang waved his phone with a smile.

Thinking it was childish, Fu Xinhong smiled and shook his head: ”Okay, no going back on my word.”

Mr. Fu, angry for a while, was also helpless.

The engagement was off, what else could he do?

Though he wasn’t as angry at Fu Xinhong as before, he no longer regarded Fu Xinhong as highly. He already decided to allocate some shares to Fu Xinhong so he can live comfortably, but he’ll let Fu Xinjiang manage the company.

Before they knew it, the summer vacation was over, and Xi Jingchen and Xia Man were already fourth-year students.

There were many things to face in the fourth year; many students had already started internships and were preparing for the graduation thesis defense.

Moreover, some students were preparing for postgraduate exams.

Xi Jingchen and Xia Man returned to school again, but this time, they weren’t often at school; instead, they frequently followed Xiao Yuan and Anning around for various work tasks.

Both felt they learned a lot, as teachers like Xiao Yuan and Anning were really hard to come by.

Xi Jingchen admired Xiao Yuan a lot and realized during this period of interaction that Xiao Yuan was such a learned and talented person. He also understood him as a wise man; no matter how difficult the problems were, once they reached Xiao Yuan, he could solve them effortlessly. This capability of handling things with ease made Xi Jingchen deeply respect him.

Of course, Xiao Yuan also taught him diligently.

Being with such a highly capable mentor who knows how to teach well, Xi Jingchen, who was already smart, naturally learned quickly and well. Now at Xiao Family, he could already handle matters alone, and Xiao Yuan would assign some tasks to Xi Jingchen for him to try handling.

Shortly after the school year started, Xi Jingchen independently led a team to complete a merger case, and his demonstrated ability made the entire Xiao Family’s upper management regard him highly.

Although the Xiao Family higher-ups hadn’t said it outright, everyone knew implicitly that Xiao Yuan had intentions of cultivating Xi Jingchen.

Some old-timers murmured secretly, thinking Xiao Yuan was really crazy.

He didn’t nurture his own biological sons and grandsons, but instead cultivated the stepson’s grandson brought by the later wife.

However, while they murmured, privately they still hoped Xi Jingchen could rise to power.

After all, Xiao Zhe and Xiao Zhang were really just two wasteful individuals. If the company were handed into their hands, they might apply for bankruptcy one day.

As for Xiao Tong, those old-timers actually didn’t see her in a good light either.

Though Xiao Tong was capable, everyone knew, but in the past, to leave a good impression on the Fu Family and to show her deep love for Fu Xinhong, she frequented the Fu family, almost a sycophant to Fu Xinhong, which made the company’s old employees not expect her to rise to the position.

After all, a love-struck fool, no matter how capable, still makes you uneasy.

Just like Mr. Fu, after seeing the love-struck essence of Fu Xinhong, he immediately replaced the heir.

In this instance, Xiao Tong’s intelligence backfired.

She thought she had calculated everyone, but actually, her machinations just brought her a loss in impression points.

Of course, Xiao Yuan noticed all this, but he wouldn’t wake Xiao Tong up.

However, Xiao Yuan was gradually enlightening Xi Jingchen.

This day, both were not busy with work, so Xiao Yuan called Xi Jingchen over.

He first spoke to Xi Jingchen about Xiao Tong and the Fu family’s engagement breakup, and then told him some of the tactics behind it.

Xi Jingchen was secretly amazed when he heard Xiao Yuan say the mistress Fu Xinhong had was found by Fu Xinjiang and Xiao Tong, and brought to Fu Xinhong through Xiao Zhang; he was secretly impressed by the cunning of the Xiao family’s few members.

”An heir of a large group should absolutely not be a person who can only use small tricks.”

Xiao Yuan briefly pointed this out: ”The leader of a group should be generous and composed, conduct affairs with integrity; actually, when Xiao Zhe and Xiao Zhang both showed their worthless nature, Xiao Tong’s chance of winning was very high. As long as she showed her abilities, truly thought for the company wholeheartedly, and openly told me her needs and wants, I would try to cultivate her, but her performance was too petty.”

Xiao Yuan shook his head as he said this: ”Jingchen, let this be a precedent for you to heed.”

Xi Jingchen nodded: ”Grandpa, rest assured, I know what to do.”

Xiao Yuan was very satisfied: ”You’re doing very well now. On public matters, you must show fairness, be unbiased and not let personal feelings affect work, this is very good. Also, Manman is good, your Grandma has praised her intelligence more than once.”

Xiao Yuan praised Xia Man, which also made Xi Jingchen happy: ”Manman still has a lot to learn.”

”Such humility, humility is a good virtue, but don’t be overly humble, otherwise it shows a lack of confidence.” Xiao Yuan waved his hand and stood up.

Xi Jingchen quickly followed.

Xiao Yuan walked out of the office: ”It’s been a long time since us pair had a meal together, let’s sit together today.”

”Okay.” Xi Jingchen went to assist Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan raised his hand: ”I’m still young.”

”Yes, you’re robust as ever.” Xi Jingchen responded with a smile.
