The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Gai Ling approached Elder Yu, first seeking guidance.

Over the past few days at the spiritual medicine garden, she had some questions about planting medicine, so she went to ask Elder Yu.

Elder Yu has a certain tolerance for the young ones in the sect.

He is now quite old, and has grown fond of the young kids. Although Gai Ling doesn’t look particularly great, her lively and cute personality and willingness to chat with him made Elder Yu patiently give her a few pointers.

Afterwards, Gai Ling took the issues she encountered during her cultivation to Elder Yu. Elder Yu is from the same generation as Anning’s parents and has lived for over a thousand years. Although his cultivation isn’t impressive now, his experience is extremely rich.

When Gai Ling asked him, he would tell her truthfully and give her a few pointers too.

It wasn’t long before Gai Ling became familiar with Elder Yu.

Gai Ling cautiously probed Elder Yu a little bit.

She could sense that soon Elder Yu would have affection for her, and when that happened, her task would be complete, she would gain Beauty Value, and she would become a bit prettier.

For this reason, Gai Ling was quite fond of him.

Early one morning, Gai Ling came to the spiritual medicine garden to look after the spirit plants, and as soon as she entered, she saw Elder Yu frowning.

”Grandpa Yu, what’s wrong?”

Gai Ling quietly asked.

Elder Yu took a harsh gulp of wine: ”That damn Xiao Wang with the surname Yu came last night to steal spirit plants again, snatched the Moon Celestial Grass I’ve been nurturing for years, don’t let me catch her, otherwise...”

Gai Ling sat down in one fell swoop as Elder Yu lost his temper, she echoed his sentiment: ”Once caught, she shouldn’t be let go easily, she should be skinned and gutted; Senior Sister Yu is too much, she doesn’t grow spiritual medicine herself, doesn’t know how difficult they are to cultivate, Moon Celestial Grass took Grandpa Yu immense effort to grow, how could she pull it out without asking, taking without asking is being a thief, she’s just a thieving brat, it’s disappointing those senior brothers like her so much, she...”

Before Gai Ling finished talking, she noticed Elder Yu looking at her with a peculiar expression.

Gai Ling was taken aback.

Elder Yu stood up: ”Alright, go get to work.”

”Okay.” Gai Ling didn’t understand what had happened with Elder Yu.

By logic, Anning stole Elder Yu’s spirit plants and spiritual medicine, and not just once, Elder Yu should detest her. Gai Ling cursing Anning should have pleased Elder Yu, so why...?

Watching Elder Yu enter the small house, Gai Ling could only concentrate on her work.

Later on, when Gai Ling tried to talk to Elder Yu, he didn’t bother to respond to her anymore, leaving Gai Ling even more puzzled.

After returning, she asked the system: ”Xiao Lu, has Old Man Yu’s affinity value increased?”

The system was silent for a moment: ”Host, the garden guard’s affinity value for you is now -10.”

”What?” Gai Ling nearly jumped up: ”That’s impossible, how could it be -10, there was a bit of affinity value just the other day, how could it drop so much now?”

She couldn’t understand why.

The system couldn’t understand either.

But then, when Gai Ling tried to increase Elder Yu’s affinity, Elder Yu became extraordinarily indifferent, no longer giving her any guidance.

Watching Elder Yu’s affinity value continuously decline with no apparent reason left Gai Ling anxious and distressed but helpless.

Finally, the deadline arrived.

The system announced in a mechanical voice: ”Host did not gain the garden guard’s affection within the given time period, mission failed, mission failed, please accept punishment promptly.”

”Ah!”

Gai Ling screamed angrily, vigorously clawing at her hair: ”I refuse, this is stupid, I refuse.”

The system ignored whether Gai Ling accepted the outcome, its program was set like this, it executed everything according to the setting.

”Host refusing to accept punishment, preparing electric shock.”

A current passed through Gai Ling, causing her to fall to the ground in pain, unable to get up.

”Xiao Lu.”

Gai Ling pleaded: ”Spare me, please, it hurts so much.”

”Host’s refusal to accept punishment will result in extermination.”

The system warned Gai Ling, though it typically wouldn’t exterminate the host, as binding a host is indeed difficult, exterminating the host would cause the system to crash.

”Fine, I’ll run, I’ll run, alright?”

Gai Ling quickly stood up and started running around the spiritual medicine garden, shouting as she ran: ”I’m a dumb pig, I’m a dumb pig.”

The Cang Mountain Sect’s spiritual medicine garden is really quite large, and there are disciples coming to work in the garden every day, these disciples are scattered in every corner of the garden, doing tedious and heavy work each day with little entertainment available.

And today, Gai Ling running while shouting ’dumb pig’ provided a lot of entertainment to the working disciples.

Many disciples stopped their work to watch Gai Ling.

”Who is that? So dumb.”

”Probably a newly entered outer disciple, looks really ugly.”

”What is she doing? Gone mad?”

”Who knows, maybe she’s trying to get attention this way.”

”What’s that about, not working properly?”

One senior brother who had entered early went over in anger to ask her: ”Junior Sister, what are you doing, get back to work already.”

Gai Ling was not about to listen to him, she ran faster, wanting to complete this lap quickly, end the punishment swiftly, and have a shorter moment of disgrace.

Seeing that Gai Ling was ignoring him made the senior brother angry too, he ran after her wanting to grab Gai Ling.

Gai Ling swung her arm to brush off the senior brother and ran even faster.

”Wow, this little Junior Sister really runs quite fast.”

”Fast, yes, but this makes her look even dumber.”

Anning stood far away watching the commotion.

She smiled, finding Gai Ling’s running rather amusing.

”Nothing entertaining, let’s go back.”

At some point, Xiao Yuan stood beside Anning.

Anning turned her head to glance at him: ”I think it’s pretty funny, guess what’s her next mission?”

Xiao Yuan shook his head: ”Who knows.”

”Who cares.” Anning linked her arm with Xiao Yuan’s: ”If soldiers come, block them with generals, if water flows, cover it with soil.”

Watching Gai Ling finish a lap and collapse exhausted on the ground, Anning said to Xiao Yuan: ”Let’s go, head back.”

Gai Ling thought she was clever, assuming that Anning stole spirit plants and spiritual medicine, Elder Yu would detest Anning, however, she didn’t understand one thing — if Elder Yu truly disliked Anning, how could Senior Sister Yu with her previous amateur skills possibly steal spirit plants?

Senior Sister Yu was able to obtain spirit plants and spiritual medicines largely due to Elder Yu turning a blind eye.

Did they really think Elder Yu’s low cultivation means he can’t deal with these little thieves?

He possesses rich experience and numerous Magic Treasures, there are thousands of ways to protect the spiritual medicine garden from thieves.

Anning was able to acquire spiritual medicine from the garden due to Elder Yu’s care.

Even though Elder Yu would scold Anning for taking the spiritual medicine he carefully nurtured, he was never truly enraged.

He only scolds those close to him, but like many old people, he can scold, hit, or get angry with those close, but others can’t say a single bad word.

Anning is the close junior Elder Yu watched grow up, the only descendant of his junior brothers and sisters, whom he deeply loves and cherishes, how could she be compared to Gai Ling, a just-entered disciple?

No matter how much an outer disciple tries, they can’t insult an elder’s direct disciple. This is an unspoken rule of the Cang Mountain Sect, and it was Gai Ling’s unprincipled behavior that was the root of Elder Yu’s dislike.

Gai Ling thought she was clever, but didn’t even consider her limited experience, how could she understand the thoughts of an elder who has lived over a thousand years, this was a case of being clever but ending up fooling herself.

Actually, if Anning didn’t purposely steal spiritual medicine during this period, and if Gai Ling patiently approached Elder Yu slowly and according to rules, Elder Yu might gradually develop affection for Gai Ling and take care of her.

Unfortunately, Anning learned of Gai Ling’s task and deliberately made her expose a flaw, causing her mission to fail.
