The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Xiao Zhe and Li Wanping didn’t really pay much attention to Xi Jingchen.

Even though the two knew Xi Jingchen was interning at the Xiao Family, they didn’t focus too much.

Their idea was that at best, Xi Jingchen was just a senior executive, merely Xiao Zhang’s assistant in the future, learning more wouldn’t hurt.

But they really didn’t expect Xi Jingchen to be personally mentored by Xiao Yuan at the Xiao Family.

That changes things.

Xiao Yuan taking him under his wing means he’s being groomed as an heir.

In an instant, Xiao Zhe and Li Wanping grew nervous and worried.

Xiao Zhe pulled Xiao Tong over and asked loudly, ”Is what you said true? Why don’t we know?”

Xiao Tong pouted, ”The old man strictly controls Xiao Family. Those executives were personally brought up by him. No one would be so reckless to tell you this. I only found out through the Fu Family.”

”Impossible, the old man wouldn’t do that.”

Xiao Zhe was having difficulty accepting it, ”Xi Jingchen doesn’t even have the Xiao surname; the old man shouldn’t think this way. He wouldn’t give his hard-earned family business to an outsider.”

”Think whatever you want.”

Xiao Tong ran upstairs to pack her things, ”Since you both no longer live in the old house, staying together with you only makes the sight unbearable. It’s better to live separately.”

Li Wanping was eager to not live with Xiao Tong, ”Do you need my help with packing?”

”No need.”

Xiao Zhe sank into the sofa, his mind filled with Xi Jingchen.

After a long time, Xiao Zhe finally asked Li Wanping, ”How are the people you found doing?”

Li Wanping sat next to Xiao Zhe, ”Both men and women have been found, and they are the best. It shouldn’t be long before they fall into the trap.”

Xiao Zhe was still uncertain, ”You mentioned the young girl from the Hu Family was interested in Xi Jingchen. Could you reach out to her and find a way...?”

Li Wanping understood, ”Sure, I’ll talk to her about this. If she really ends up with Xi Jingchen, with Hu Yushan’s nature, she’ll definitely control Xi Jingchen stringently. He won’t be able to stay at the Xiao Family.”

Thinking of this, Li Wanping smiled, ”The Xiao Family can only be ours, no one else should think about touching it.”

Li Wanping was quite efficient in her actions.

That day, she called Xi Jingchen and Xia Man separately.

”Jingchen, it’s mom. What have you been busy with lately? Mom misses you. Can you find some time to have a meal?”

After all, she’s his mother, Xi Jingchen had to give face to Li Wanping. He checked his timetable, ”Then tonight, I happen to have time. Let’s get together.”

Li Wanping agreed and then called Xia Man.

”Manman, it’s Aunt Li. I was in the wrong before. I was just too anxious and felt guilty towards Jingchen. I wanted to make amends but I said so many unpleasant things to you, I’m really sorry.”

Xia Man hurriedly said, ”It’s all right, it’s all right, I didn’t mind. You don’t need to apologize to me.”

Li Wanping smiled, ”I’ve arranged a dinner with Jingchen tonight. You should come along, the three of us can have a good chat.”

Li Wanping intended to build the relationship, so Xia Man had to oblige. She readily agreed.

Yet she didn’t know Li Wanping had deliberately scheduled the time a bit earlier.

In the evening, after finishing her tasks and instructing her assistant, Xia Man left.

She drove to the location mentioned by Li Wanping, and was led to the reserved room by a waiter upon arrival.

Upon entering, she saw only Li Wanping sitting alone.

Aunt Li.”

She entered with a smile, and took out a small trinket from her bag, ”I saw this while shopping and thought it really suits you, so I bought it. Finally, I have the chance to give it to you.”

Li Wanping didn’t care much for what Xia Man bought but still accepted it with a smile, ”It’s beautiful, you’re so considerate. Quickly, sit down.”

As Xia Man sat down, Li Wanping poured her a cup of water, ”Have some water first. I just called Jingchen; he got stuck in traffic and will take a little while to get here.”

Xia Man smiled, ”No rush, we can wait.”

She was indeed thirsty and took a big sip from the water glass. Li Wanping refilled the glass, ”Drink more, you’re sweating all over...”

Xia Man didn’t think too much nor did she suspect Li Wanping, and drank the entire glass.

After drinking, she hadn’t said much before she began feeling dizzy.

”Aunt Li, I don’t feel very well...”

Li Wanping laughed, ”Xiao Zhang, come over.”

Xia Man then saw Xiao Zhang enter from another door.

Seeing Xiao Zhang, Xia Man seemed to understand something, and anxiously tried to stand, ”Aunt Li, what are you doing?”

Just as she spoke, Xia Man fell onto the chair.

Xiao Zhang laughingly came over, lifted Xia Man up, and took her out of the private room, straight to the hotel room they had booked.

Li Wanping calmly poured out the water from Xia Man’s used glass and replaced it with a new one.

A moment later, Xi Jingchen hurriedly entered.

”Mom.”

He sat down, ”Sorry, I got held up in traffic and arrived late.”

Li Wanping laughed, ”It’s fine, I just got here not long ago. How are things? Are you tired out these days?”

Xi Jingchen shook his head, ”Not tired. Quite fulfilling, I think it’s good.”

”It’s good that you can adapt.” Li Wanping poured a cup of water for Xi Jingchen, ”Have some water first, then we’ll order food. It’s just us two today, we can have a good chat.”

Xi Jingchen saw Li Wanping being so caring and smiled in return, ”Okay.”

He didn’t suspect Li Wanping either, and drank the water she gave.

Once Xi Jingchen was taken away by Hu Yushan, Li Wanping smiled smugly, ”Hmph, the Old Madam thought too much, wanted you to compete with us for the Xiao Family? Dream on. Now I’ll ruin you and Xia Man; let’s see what else you can do to fight me.”

”Didn’t expect you to be so ruthless.”

A faint voice with unspoken mockery sounded.

Li Wanping jumped in shock.

In a blink, Anning appeared in the private room, ”I really didn’t expect it. Not only do you want to break up Jingchen and Xia Man, but you’re also willing to push your own son into the pit.”

”You, why are you here?”

This time truly frightened Li Wanping and made her jump up.

Anning stared coldly at Li Wanping, ”If I didn’t come, Jingchen and Xia Man wouldn’t survive. Li Wanping, are you fit to be a mother? Pushing your own son into abyss, don’t you feel guilty? At midnight, aren’t you remorseful?”

Li Wanping glared back at Anning viciously, ”You forced me. Why did you come to Su Hai, marry the old man, and compete for family assets with me? If you didn’t compete, I wouldn’t have treated Jingchen like this. It’s all your fault, all your fault.”

Anning slapped her, ”Blaming others for your wrongdoing, Li Wanping, you’ve truly remained stagnant for decades.”

Li Wanping covered her face but showed a bit of a smile at the corner of her mouth, ”So what? Xiao Zhang and Yushan should have succeeded by now, and Jingchen and Xia Man are caught in that kind of video. In the future, they’ll have to listen to me. Whatever I say, they can only comply.”

Anning also smiled, ”You may not look great, but you sure have grand dreams.”

Seeing Anning smile like that, Li Wanping suddenly realized something and fearfully asked, ”What did you do? What did you do?”
