The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

After dinner, Xi Jingchen and Xia Man went to the kitchen to wash dishes, while Anning and Mr. and Mrs. Xia chatted for a while longer before saying they were a bit tired and got up to leave.

Xi Jingchen and Xia Man accompanied Anning and Xi Zhenhua to the hotel.

Mrs. Xia went to find Mr. Xia with a bank card in hand.

”Old Xia, look at this... Grandma insisted on the betrothal gift, I couldn’t turn it down...”

Mr. Xia got worried seeing the bank card: ”Why did you accept it then? Taking someone’s money, what if something happens to Manman and Jingchen in the future? Now that you’ve taken it, our Manman’s tied to this tree.”

Mrs. Xia felt a bit aggrieved: ”Grandma is quite persuasive, I didn’t even realize how I ended up accepting it, you didn’t see earlier, she’s really shrewd, she flattered me and our Manman right from the start, I had no means to resist.”

Mr. Xia sighed: ”Forget it, since you’ve accepted it, anyway, our daughter is happy, can we really object?”

”You keep this card.”

Mrs. Xia handed the card to Mr. Xia: ”Remember to buy something to send with them when they leave.”

”Got it, got it.” Mr. Xia put the money away and, after a while, asked Mrs. Xia: ”How much is in here?”

Mrs. Xia shook her head: ”How would I know? They just gave it to me, was I supposed to chase after them and ask how much they gave?”

Mr. Xia truly didn’t know what to say anymore.

”Fine, I’ll check it out later.”

Mrs. Xia leaned forward: ”What do you think of Mr. Jingchen?”

Mr. Xia recalled the days chatting with Xi Zhenhua: ”He’s alright, quite capable, I heard he’s well regarded at work, when he talks he seems genuine.”

”It looks like Grandma treats our Manman really well now, and his character seems okay too, I think our Manman won’t suffer any grievances in the future.”

Hearing Xi Zhenhua was quite good, Mrs. Xia felt at ease.

Mr. Xia thought a bit more: ”I just don’t know what Jingchen’s mom is like.”

”Who cares, anyway she won’t be living with our Manman.” Mrs. Xia waved her hand: ”It’s rare for them to visit, tomorrow you should accompany them for a tour, the hill here is good for summer resort, take them there to play for a couple of days, so their visit won’t be in vain.”

”Alright.”

Mr. Xia agreed.

As for Anning, she returned to the hotel to rest and slept until evening.

After waking up, she had a video chat with Xiao Yuan for a while, then changed her clothes and went downstairs with Xi Zhenhua for dinner.

To be honest, even though Xia Man’s place is just a small county, the county has developed quite well in the past few years with good construction, and the climate here is somewhat better than Suhai. Located in the north, even in summer evenings, Anning didn’t feel hot while walking on the street, instead, sporadic cool breezes made it quite comfortable.

As night fell and the lights came on, the night view was nice too, plus it wasn’t as crowded as Suhai, giving a sense of tranquility over time.

”This place is quite nice.”

Xi Zhenhua said as he walked.

Anning nodded: ”Yeah, the greenery is done well.”

Indeed, the greenery here was really well-maintained, the streets were exceptionally clean, and many trees and flowers were planted alongside the roads. After walking a short distance, they’d come across a beautifully constructed street park. Anning looked at the street signs and said to Xi Zhenhua: ”There’s a big park ahead, let’s go there for a walk and see if there are any restaurants nearby, we can have dinner if there is.”

Xi Zhenhua also wanted to explore, so he and Anning walked forward together.

After walking about seven or eight hundred meters, they saw a particularly large park.

Not far from the park was indeed a restaurant.

Anning felt hungry and went with Xi Zhenhua to eat at the restaurant.

The restaurant wasn’t very big, but it was clean and nicely decorated. Anning and Xi Zhenhua found a table by the window to sit down.

Soon a waiter brought over a menu.

Anning ordered some dishes and handed the menu to Xi Zhenhua, who also ordered two dishes.

Anning then asked the waiter: ”Do you have freshly squeezed juice?”

The waiter looked a bit troubled: ”What kind of juice would you like?”

Anning said: ”Anything’s fine, preferably fresh and seasonal fruits.”

”Let me ask the owner.” The waiter walked away with the menu, and after a short while, he returned with a woman who appeared to be in her thirties, extraordinarily beautiful, the type that makes you immediately associate with a fox spirit.

The woman had long hair with large, wavy curls and a sleeveless black dress that highlighted her figure, accentuating her large chest, slim waist, and long legs.
