The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

And that Ning Ruoxi is just a healthcare worker employed by the Rong Family. Her duty is to take care of Rong Junhao; it’s her job. Taking good care of patients, isn’t that exactly what she’s supposed to do?

Yet that mother and son use Anning’s resources, and then turn back to scold Anning, while being inexplicably grateful to Ning Ruoxi, who simply does her job with their money. They really must have water in their brains.

Maybe it’s not that they have water in their brains; perhaps Rong Junhao and his mother are doing it on purpose.

After all, Anning had already been managing the Rong’s company for many years by then, and Rong Junhao was likely afraid of Anning swallowing up the company. Faced with such enormous interests, he could even discard his human integrity.

The night breeze was a bit chilly, and Anning turned back to grab a shawl to wrap around herself.

She quietly watched the city’s nightscape. After a long while, she returned to bed to continue sleeping.

This season marked the second year since Anning took over the company. The most difficult times had passed, and her sleep time was assured. Unlike before, when she had to stay up late until one or two o’clock every day.

Anning lay down on the bed, pondered the upcoming matters for a moment, and soon fell into a deep sleep.

Anning slept well that night and felt refreshed when she woke up in the morning.

After waking up, Anning called her secretary Feng Na: ”You don’t need to wait for me today. I’m going home a bit later, and I’ll drive myself to the company by noon.”

Though Feng Na didn’t know why Anning went home, Anning was the boss, and she simply needed to follow Anning’s words.

She let the driver take the car away from downstairs of Anning’s apartment complex and went directly to the company.

Anning leisurely prepared breakfast, ate, changed her clothes, and drove back to the Yun Family.

To save time, she had been living in an apartment complex close to the company in downtown for over a year. It’s not that she didn’t have time to see Rong Junhao; she was busy to the point where she didn’t even have time to visit Ms. Xu.

However, Ms. Xu felt for Anning and occasionally would cook meals and deliver them to the company, or stay at Anning’s place for a night, helping Anning with whatever she could.

And Ms. Li, despite her pleasant words, never truly cared about how exhausted or how much Anning was suffering.

Anning drove back to the Yun Family, and when she arrived, Ms. Xu was having breakfast.

Seeing Anning return, Ms. Xu was quite happy: ”How come you thought of coming back today? Is the company not busy anymore?”

Anning put down her bag and sat opposite Ms. Xu: ”Busy, yes, but there’s always work at the company. I’ve been too tired these past few days, so I just wanted to come back home to rest a bit.”

Ms. Xu looked sympathetic: ”Yes, work is endless. You should rest when it’s time to rest. We don’t need to earn a lot of money, just keeping the company stable is enough.”

Anning smiled slightly.

Ms. Xu got up to serve Anning some rice, but Anning quickly waved her hand: ”I already had breakfast before coming.”

Ms. Xu also stopped eating and just chatted with Anning.

Anning thought for a moment and then told Ms. Xu: ”Mom, I’ve been thinking about something these past few days.”

”What?”

Ms. Xu was taken aback.

”I took over the company in a crisis, helping to manage it. It’s only proper to manage our family’s company, but managing the Rong’s... Mom, I’m only Rong Junhao’s fiancée. We aren’t married, and my managing the Rong’s isn’t quite rightful.”

This issue had crossed Ms. Xu’s mind too, but the Yun Family and the Rong Family had a relationship spanning many years, and Anning and Rong Junhao grew up together. Back then, that’s how she felt. She couldn’t say such things, fearing Ms. Li would overthink. She also feared Anning’s stepping back from the Rong’s would make life difficult for Ms. Li and Rong Junhao. Thus, even though she pitied Anning, she never said anything.

But now that Anning had brought it up, Ms. Xu expressed her thoughts: ”I’ve thought about it before but found it difficult to bring up. Did something happen at the company for you to suddenly mention this, or did someone at the Rong’s say something?”

Anning shook her head: ”No, I used to think the same. But I couldn’t just ignore Aunt Li and Rong Junhao either. I’ve managed the Rong’s for over a year now, and the company’s situation has somewhat improved. I’m thinking, I can’t manage the Rong’s forever, can I? Given that Rong Junhao’s condition isn’t hopeful, if he never wakes up, am I supposed to slave away for his family all my life?”

Anning felt particularly wronged as she said this, her eyes turning red, looking sorrowful: ”Growing up with Rong Junhao, we do share feelings, but those feelings aren’t enough for me to give my whole life to his family. Besides, we have our family’s company to manage as well. Managing two companies leaves me with no energy to grow Yun’s. Mom, Dad said many times while he was alive that I should develop the Yun’s well in the future, and I...”

Hearing this, Ms. Xu also felt miserable and couldn’t help but cry.

She hugged Anning, sobbing as she said, ”It’s really been hard for you.”

Anning, nestled in Ms. Xu’s embrace, expressed her grievances: ”Besides, if Rong Junhao never wakes up, am I never to get married for life? Why? I’m just engaged to him, not married. Plus, our family company needs an heir too. You and Dad only had me. If I don’t get married, who will I pass the company to when I grow old? Mom, our family can’t be left without a successor.”

These were real issues Anning raised, ones any normal person would have to consider.

Any parent faced with a situation would first consider their own child, which is only natural. That’s how Ms. Xu felt now, worrying about Anning and caring about their own affairs. No matter how close the relationship between the two families, they were still outsiders compared to their own daughter.

”What are you planning to do?”

Ms. Xu asked Anning.

Anning wiped away her tears and regained her previous calm: ”I plan to discuss with Aunt Li about finding a professional manager to run the Rong’s company. In addition, I wish to call off my engagement with Rong Junhao.”
