The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Xiao Yuan touched Anning’s face: ”Luckily, I met you the first time I sang for money, otherwise I’d be starving.”

His words were so pitiful that Anning felt quite sympathetic towards him: ”Are you hungry now? Maybe I could get you something to eat.”

”Hungry.”

Xiao Yuan stared intently at Anning.

Anning thought about getting up to go to the kitchen to make some food. Xiao Yuan pressed down on her, not letting her move: ”You know what I want to eat.”

Anning felt a rush of emotion. As she reached out to embrace Xiao Yuan, her phone placed nearby started ringing.

”Who’s calling?”

Xiao Yuan handed the phone to Anning.

Anning glanced at it and answered with a sigh: ”Aunt Li, is there something wrong?”

An excited voice came through the phone: ”Ningning, come over quickly. I have good news to tell you; Jun Hao woke up. He has awoken.”

”Auntie, please don’t be too worked up. Have you had a doctor check on him? You should have a doctor go over first. Don’t worry, I’ll be there soon.”

Anning nudged Xiao Yuan, then flipped herself out of bed: ”You need to stay calm now, I’ll get there as soon as possible. You’d better not let Brother Jun Hao move; he’s been lying down for over a year, and his physical functions have deteriorated a lot. We’re not doctors, we can’t ensure...”

Xiao Yuan took a set of clothes from the wardrobe for Anning to change into.

Anning continued the call while quickly changing clothes, then casually tied her hair up.

She grabbed a handbag: ”Auntie, I’ll hang up now. Uh, I’ll have the driver drive me over.”

After hanging up, Anning was about to call the driver when Xiao Yuan pressed her hand: ”I’ll drive you.”

Anning handed him the car keys.

Xiao Yuan, a bit reluctant, nonetheless changed his shoes with Anning and led her to take the elevator.

”Is it necessary to do this?”

Thinking of Anning going to see another man made Xiao Yuan deeply uncomfortable.

Anning smiled and gave him a kiss: ”Might as well make it convincing. The Rong Family hasn’t done anything to wrong me yet. If I’m too ruthless, people will talk. Don’t worry; even if he wakes up, I won’t do anything with him. You’re the only one in my heart.”

Anning was quite good at sweet-talking, quickly putting Xiao Yuan in a good mood.

Getting into the car, Xiao Yuan was still upset. He held Anning and kissed her for a while before driving.

Arriving at the Rong Family, Xiao Yuan said to Anning: ”I’ll wait for you here.”

He deliberately extended his wrist to show Anning his watch, emphatically tapping the dial.

Anning understood; this was his way of telling her to handle things quickly and not dawdle, to come down earlier.

Anning smiled, made an OK gesture, and turned to enter the Rong Family gate.

After Anning left, Xiao Yuan reclined his seat a bit, half-laying down, looking at news on his phone.

He hadn’t read much before someone knocked on the car window.

Xiao Yuan frowned slightly and lowered the window, seeing a delicate and gentle-looking girl standing there.

”Hello.”

The girl greeted him timidly.

Xiao Yuan nodded.

”Are you Mr. Yun’s driver?” the girl asked.

Xiao Yuan thought for a moment: ”I’m her boyfriend.”

Uh?

The girl was taken aback, not expecting this answer: ”I’m the caregiver hired by the Rong Family. My name is Ning Ruoxi.”

Xiao Yuan looked directly at Ning Ruoxi: ”Is there something you need?”

”Um.” Ning Ruoxi was momentarily unsure what to say: ”Mr. Rong woke up. How should I put this? I feel that his emotions are very unstable, and I think Mr. Yun might not be able to come out for a while. You’re sitting here, and it might be... I was wondering if you’d like to wait in the small lounge prepared for accompanying company in the Rong Family, there’s water and some snacks there, and there’s a restroom, so it’ll be more convenient.”

Indeed, Ning Ruoxi was a very considerate girl.

Her suggestion was quite good.

After all, if Anning stayed for a long time, it would be quite boring for Xiao Yuan to just wait, and he might have to deal with some biological needs like going to the restroom, or if he got thirsty or hungry.

”Alright.”

Xiao Yuan agreed and got out of the car: ”Thank you.”

”You’re welcome.” Ning Ruoxi waved her hand: ”Please follow me.”

Xiao Yuan watched Ning Ruoxi thoughtfully as she walked ahead.

This girl’s heart was very pure, Xiao Yuan could feel that.

Logically, in this world, because of Ning Ruoxi, Anning ended up in such a miserable state, Xiao Yuan should loathe Ning Ruoxi.

But Ning Ruoxi’s heart was too pure; she never held any malice towards anyone. She was a very simple, clean, and kind-hearted girl, and Xiao Yuan couldn’t bring himself to dislike her; at most, he was indifferent.

Entering a small lounge, Ning Ruoxi brought Xiao Yuan a tea snack and pointed out the restroom before leaving.

She handled it very well, not making anyone feel awkward or annoyed.

Ning Ruoxi left the small lounge without going upstairs to check on Rong Junhao, where many people, including doctors and several experienced nurses, were crowding. Ning Ruoxi didn’t join the commotion.

She returned to her little room in the Rong Family, climbed onto her bed, and started crying.

Ning Ruoxi felt frightened and a bit sad.

Today, she had been taking care of Rong Junhao, as usual. After finishing the leg massage for Rong Junhao, she took a book and sat at the bedside to read for a while. After finishing a page, she stood by the bed looking at the lying Rong Junhao, and softly said: ”You just lie there, knowing nothing. Mr. Yun came today; she was very sad. I could feel how tired she was. This past year, she’s been holding on with great difficulty. In the future... if you wake up, please don’t blame her; breaking off the engagement is only human, given your condition...”

Before Ning Ruoxi finished speaking, she saw Rong Junhao open his eyes.

Ning Ruoxi was startled.

She covered her mouth to refrain from screaming.

”You...”

Rong Junhao’s throat released a dry, awkward sound, with unspeakable discomfort, but his gaze at Ning Ruoxi carried deep hatred and unutterable disgust.

Ning Ruoxi felt that gaze.

She was scared and hurt at the same time.

She turned to run out, yelling for Ms. Li: ”Ms. Li, Mr. Rong has woken up...”

After Ms. Li entered Rong Junhao’s room, Ning Ruoxi was brought in as well.

She hid in an unnoticed corner, observing Rong Junhao’s expression entirely.

She saw Rong Junhao’s eyes were cold when looking at Ms. Li, like an emotionless machine.

However, when Ms. Li called Anning, Rong Junhao appeared very excited, especially excited.

Ning Ruoxi timidly spoke up, and when Rong Junhao turned to look at her, it was like he was looking at a dead person.

This really frightened Ning Ruoxi.

She dared not stay in that room and ran out when the doctors and nurses arrived.

She felt upset and scared, not knowing where to run, subconsciously arriving at the parking area, then saw Anning’s car.

Ning Ruoxi saw someone in the car, remembering how excited Rong Junhao was when Anning was mentioned, thinking Anning might not come out soon, it’d be uncomfortable for the driver, so she approached to knock on the window.

However, Ning Ruoxi hadn’t expected the person in the car to be Anning’s boyfriend.

And that man seemed quite young, probably younger than Anning, almost looking like a minor, plus his attire seemed a bit mismatched with Anning’s.

Though Ning Ruoxi was curious for a moment, she didn’t delve deeper, just leading him to the small lounge and leaving.

The day’s events had a significant impact on Ning Ruoxi, leaving her momentarily unable to cope.

A child always hopes even if she doesn’t wish for gratitude or anything from Rong Junhao, at least doesn’t want Rong Junhao to hate or despise her.

Thinking of Rong Junhao’s eyes, Ning Ruoxi felt aggrieved and wanted to cry again.
