The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Xiao Yuan handed the red fruit to Tu Mingyue: ”Take a look at this, what is it?”

”What is this?”

Tu Mingyue held the red fruit and examined it carefully, but she couldn’t recognize it.

Anning recognized it: ”Is this a red fruit? Are there red fruits below? How many have ripened?”

Xiao Yuan laughed: ”This one is ripe, and there are a few more that aren’t ripe yet.”

Anning tugged on Xiao Yuan’s sleeve: ”What are we waiting for? Hurry up and tell the Sect Leader! We need to find a way to move the Red Fruit Tree to the spiritual medicine garden and guard it carefully.”

Xiao Yuan nodded: ”I’ve already sent a message to the master.”

Just as he finished speaking, Chi Hezi arrived with a few disciples.

”Where’s the red fruit?”

Xiao Yuan pointed to the red fruit in Tu Mingyue’s hand: ”Master, this is a fruit I picked for my disciple. Let me be clear first—this one is Mingyue’s, and no one can snatch it.”

Chi Hezi was quite irritated: ”Would I really snatch something from my own disciple’s disciple?”

He looked at the red fruit: ”Mingyue, give the fruit to your master. You can’t eat this right now; this is a thousand-year-old red fruit. Eating it might cause your body to explode. Let your master find medicinal materials to refine it into medicine pills, then eat one pill every few days. Let’s take it slow, there’s no rush.”

Xiao Yuan looked shocked: ”Master, is this really a thousand-year-old red fruit?”

Chi Hezi nodded: ”Yes, where is the tree?”

Xiao Yuan pointed below the cliff and gave a specific location.

Chi Hezi jumped down directly, and after about a quarter of an hour, he came up with a tree in his hands.

This tree wasn’t very big, and there were a few fruits that hadn’t turned red yet, scattered sparsely, with sparse leaves as well.

”It’s really ugly,” Anning commented distastefully.

Chi Hezi wanted to kick her: ”If you think it’s ugly, don’t eat the elixir made from the red fruit.”

”Fine, I won’t eat it,” Anning said dismissively. ”I really don’t want to eat such ugly fruits anyway.”

”You...”

Chi Hezi was nearly infuriated: ”Fine, I won’t bother with you anymore.”

He carried the fruit tree and quickly went with the disciples to the spiritual medicine garden.

Anning hugged Tu Mingyue: ”Mingyue, let’s go back and refine some medicine.”

Tu Mingyue whispered to Anning: ”Mistress, we have red fruit. When the medicine is refined, you can have some.”

Anning smiled and patted Tu Mingyue’s head: ”You should eat it; Mistress doesn’t need it. I have good talent, so I’m fine without medicine. All of our good stuff should be kept for Mingyue.”

Gai Ling was sitting in the room adjusting her breath when suddenly, the system spoke up: ”Task determination failed, task determination failed, please ready yourself for punishment.”

”What?”

Gai Ling jumped up in shock: ”What’s going on? I haven’t even started the task, how can it have failed?”

System: ”The red fruits have already been picked, and the tree has been moved.”

Damn it.

Gai Ling almost wanted to curse: ”What the hell is this thing? Are the people of Cang Mountain Sect holding a grudge against me?”

”Please ready yourself for punishment,”

said the system again.

Gai Ling snapped: ”What’s the punishment this time? I’m telling you, if you mess with me again like some fool, I’d rather die than stay bound to you.”

”One unlucky day for the host.”

Gai Ling took a deep breath: ”As long as you don’t let me say ’fool’, it’s fine.”

As for an unlucky day, Gai Ling just thought, how unlucky can it be? Besides, it’s only one day; endure it and it will pass.

In the spiritual medicine garden, a thousand-year-old red fruit tree was planted, attracting many Cang Mountain Sect disciples to come and witness it.

Elder Yu had already used an array to protect the red fruit, meaning these disciples couldn’t get close to the tree and could only look from afar.

Still, getting a glimpse was good enough; after all, this was a legendary treasure.

Finding a red fruit tree was already difficult enough. As for the thousand-year-old red fruit, it was something only found in legends.

Later, they heard that the Sect Leader said that once the red fruits ripen, they would be used to refine elixirs and awarded to disciples with outstanding contributions or winners of the grand competition. This excited all the disciples of Cang Mountain Sect, and they began to practice diligently, hoping to win the elixir in the grand competition.

Gai Ling hadn’t even undergone punishment when a new task was assigned.

”Please win the newcomers’ group championship in next month’s grand competition to receive a reward of +3 Beauty Value.”

”This task seems even harder,”

Gai Ling asked the system: ”Since you’re offering three Beauty Value points, it must not be easy to complete.”

”The host can choose not to accept,”

The system began to act petulant; it felt extremely displeased with this host, too many troubles, poor quality, unable to complete tasks, and now its energy was dwindling so much that it feared it might end up gone alongside the host.

”I’ll accept it; how can I not?”

Gai Ling’s pursuit of beauty was simply fanatical.

She thought to herself, her current Beauty Value was fifteen, and if she added three, she’d transform from ordinary to an enchanting little beauty. Then she could attract an outer sect disciple to help with tasks, or maybe even charm an inner sect disciple, thus obtaining resources through them.

”Is there any way you can help me win the competition?”

Gai Ling asked the system.

The system remained silent for a while: ”The host may use Basic Merit Value to purchase items from the system.”

Anning was sitting in the room when she saw this sentence, she paused for a moment.

She knew the system was going to take action against Gai Ling.

Gai Ling’s consecutive task failures had made the system lose patience with her.

The system wanted to absorb Gai Ling’s Merit Points to strengthen itself, and then figure out how to break free from Gai Ling.

”Merit points?”

Gai Ling asked the system: ”What’s that?”

The system explained briefly, suggesting that Gai Ling could use merit points to buy good cultivation techniques and cheat devices.

Gai Ling thought for a moment; given the short time frame, obtaining good cultivation techniques wouldn’t be much help, though she could use cheat devices.

However, Gai Ling didn’t want to buy them right away, intending to wait until the grand competition to assess the situation before making a purchase.

The next day, as soon as Gai Ling woke, a female disciple from next door informed her that there was an outer sect disciples’ dinner at noon. It intrigued Gai Ling when she inquired about it, learning that it was a Cang Mountain Sect tradition. After recruiting new disciples, once everyone became familiar with the sect’s affairs, they would organize a dinner to allow everyone to meet each other and foster a sense of belonging to Cang Mountain Sect.

Due to the dinner, everyone could rest for the whole morning, which made Gai Ling very happy. If she didn’t go out, she shouldn’t be very unlucky.

But what happened?

While having breakfast, she choked on a bean and nearly suffocated herself.

While drinking water, she accidentally dropped the cup and, while picking up broken ceramic pieces, she cut open an artery, and blood started to gush out.

Just then, a girl named Xiao Han came to find her. As soon as she entered the door, she saw Gai Ling’s wrist cut wide open, blood pouring out nonstop.

Xiao Han was terrified and shouted: ”Someone come quickly, help!”

Afterwards, several female disciples living nearby all rushed over.

While Xiao Han used something to stop the bleeding, she shouted: ”Everyone’s already forgotten you shouting ’fool’, don’t make a rash decision! Besides, it doesn’t matter if you shout, how could you think about suicide over such a humiliating incident? You’re way too...”

”Gai Ling wants to commit suicide because someone called her a fool?”

”No way, that’s too rash.”

”Please don’t be rash, we won’t call you a fool again.”

”I didn’t.”

Gai Ling tried to deny.

But just as she stood, due to blood loss causing dizziness, she fell to the ground again, landing entirely on the ceramic shards, feeling exquisitely painful.
