Not Being a Trainer This Time

League Calendar Year 199, July 23, there are still two days before Naoki sets out to explore the ancient ruins.

That morning, Naoki began checking the results of Cyclizar and Dragonair training with Koraidon during this period.

The Dragonair are doing fine, they were training through play, and each learned one or two new moves in more than half a month.

But Cyclizar is different, it has been working very hard.

At first, when Koraidon proposed the teaching, Cyclizar was very surprised.

Because Koraidon always displayed an attitude neither actively approaching nor distancing itself from Cyclizar.

Cyclizar initially thought this was a joke, but upon seeing that Koraidon was serious about teaching, it settled down and followed Koraidon diligently to learn.

And now, a long time has passed since its special training.

Standing on the meadow of the ranch, Cyclizar confidently demonstrated to Naoki the moves it learned from Koraidon.

Rushing towards the opponent, jumping high, using its body to attack the opponent.

”Seems like a Normal Type Body Slam,” Naoki observed Cyclizar’s movements, guessing in his mind.

He watched Cyclizar use Body Slam and suddenly felt that this move’s actions were somewhat similar to Koraidon’s Collision Course.

Both involve jumping high and crashing towards the opponent.

”Great, continue,” Naoki noted Cyclizar’s newly mastered move in his notebook.

Cyclizar continued to demonstrate the next move.

Time passed by second by second, the whole process lasted about ten minutes.

By the time Cyclizar finished demonstrating the last move, the page recording its data gained a few more lines.

[Name: Cyclizar

Temperament: Cute, naive, inexperienced, a bit dumb, seems to want to become stronger like Dragonite and Pawmi recently

Hobbies: Sunbathing, chasing butterflies in the grass, happy when working with me

Favorite Food: Pan-Fried Pork Chops, Naoki’s Secret Sandwich, Berry Milk

Mastered Moves: Tackle, Growl, Rapid Spin, Dragon Tail, Agility, Breaking Swipe, Quick Attack, Acrobatics, Aerial Ace, Body Slam, Shed Tail, Shift Gear, Dragon Pulse, Dragon Rush, Outrage, Iron Head, Giga Impact]

”Shift Gear... Agility...”

Looking at these two speed-enhancing moves, Naoki suddenly wanted to know how fast Cyclizar could get if it got serious.

At this thought, Naoki said to Cyclizar: ”Use Shift Gear for me to see.”

”Gaaow!”

Cyclizar nodded its head.

The next moment, the tire-like part in front of its chest began to emit a white glow, spinning rapidly like a speeding motorcycle.

”Run!” Naoki said.

Cyclizar immediately started sprinting across the grass.

”Sure enough, speed has increased quite a bit.”

Naoki timely called to stop, then had Cyclizar use Shift Gear + Agility to maximize speed.

Cyclizar diligently applied buffs to itself.

Once the buffs were fully stacked, it started running again according to Naoki’s request.

A blur flashed, and Cyclizar’s figure instantly vanished from Naoki’s sight.

Naoki was slightly surprised.

Such speed!

It seems the record in the Cyclizar Pokédex stating its maximum speed can reach 120km per hour is no joke!

In that case, Cyclizar can utilize its speed advantage more in battles.

For example, evade opponent’s attacks, close the gap with the opponent, and attack using moves like Dragon Tail and Iron Head.

Seeing things were almost clear, Naoki once again called Cyclizar to stop, then explained his thoughts carefully.

”Speed is your advantage. In battle, you must learn to leverage your speed and high mobility for maneuvering, using the professional term, it’s called kiting the opponent.”

”Gaaow?” Cyclizar listened with a vague understanding.

Just as Naoki wanted to explain, he saw Koraidon beside him lazily yawning.

A good idea suddenly popped into his mind.

Instead of explaining word by word, it’s better to do a practical demonstration.

Thinking of this, Naoki said, ”Koraidon, next I’ll have you spar with Cyclizar. I’ll be directing Cyclizar to battle against you.”

”Ah-gah,” Koraidon blinked, seeming a bit speechless, but still agreed to Naoki’s request, getting up to stand on the grass, ready to face the challenge from its formerly taught self.

Looking at Koraidon, Cyclizar’s face was filled with determination.

The battle officially begins!

Cyclizar continuously used Shift Gear to maximize its speed against Koraidon!

Naoki had Cyclizar start with the Dragon Type move Breaking Swipe.

In the next moment, Cyclizar’s figure lunged out, sweeping its resilient tail towards Koraidon.

Koraidon remained motionless, cooperatively playing the role of a live target.

Once the move hit, Naoki immediately said, ”Open the distance, don’t let the opponent have a chance to catch you!”

At the command, Cyclizar immediately withdrew, using its speed advantage to maneuver around Koraidon.

”Do it again, this time use Dragon Claw, then withdraw quickly!”

Cyclizar rushed at Koraidon again, executing Dragon Claw before leaping back.

These two brief encounters gave it some enlightenment.

Just then, Naoki spoke: ”Understand? This is kiting tactics! Speed is your advantage, you should learn to use this advantage in battle to maximize it.”
