Not Being a Trainer This Time

Naoki: ”...”

What the hell is historical research!

Naoki’s gaze fell on the pile of gold coins.

The ancient gold coins gleamed, exuding the scent of money.

So, your research involves taking away other people’s burial items?

Noticing his gaze, Raifort smiled slightly and said:

”In professional terms, my actions are called archaeology. To be honest, I’m very interested in the legends passed down from the past.”

”The reason I took these ancient coins is to study the monetary system of the Paldea Ancient Kingdom thousands of years ago. You know, I’m a history teacher.”

Naoki was at a loss for words. Although nothing was wrong with her words, something felt off about it.

”...So what are you doing now?” he asked.

Raifort shrugged and said matter-of-factly, ”I finished my research, and these coins no longer hold any significance for me, so I’m planning to give them to someone who needs them.”

”Like you,” Raifort said with a smile.

Alright then! Naoki didn’t ask more because he really needed those coins.

So he changed the subject and got down to business.

”How many coins are there in total?” Naoki asked.

”Hmm,” Raifort shook her head, ”I’m not really sure because I didn’t get these coins all at once. I collected them from more than a dozen tombs and ruins.”

Naoki: ”...So how much are you planning to sell each coin for?”

Raifort thought for a moment and then smiled:

”According to the market price of antiquities, the price of one ancient gold coin is 50,000 League coins. But considering you’re buying so many at once, I can give you a discount! But the condition is you have to tell me what you plan to do with them.”

Naoki countered, ”Have you heard of a Pokemon called Gholdengo?”

”Gholdengo?” Raifort was slightly taken aback and then surprised, ”Are you talking about the Pokemon that is said to evolve from a Gimmighoul?”

Naoki nodded: ”Someone told me that to evolve a Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, you need to collect a certain amount of coins.”

Raifort understood and pondered slightly, mumbling, ”So you plan to try it out...”

She had heard of Gimmighoul before.

It’s said that it was born from the passion of explorers for treasure thousands of years ago.

And being a history teacher, coupled with her interest in ancient legends and history, Raifort knew a lot about these things.

”That’s right.” Naoki nodded.

”I understand,” Raifort said softly. ”In that case, I’ll give you a 30% discount, as a way to verify the legend of the Gimmighoul. So if your Gimmighoul evolves, you must show it to me!”

”No problem.” Naoki readily agreed, making him believe that Raifort wasn’t tomb raiding for money.

If it were for money, she could have set a higher price.

And from Raifort’s background in the game, she’s inherently interested in historical legends. Though she’s in school, she often wants to go out tomb raiding.

If it weren’t for Principal Clavell watching over her, she’d probably use any means necessary to solve legendary mysteries.

”Now you believe I’m not tomb raiding for money, right?” Raifort insightfully asked with a smile.

”I believe it.” Naoki nodded.

Raifort smiled slightly and continued, ”And I wasn’t lying about what I said on the forum.”

”Even in the whole tomb raider realm, I’m quite famous because I’ve once reached the deepest part of the renowned underwater ruins in the Unova Region in one go!”

”Even though I’ve retired now, my legend still circulates in the tomb raider realm!”

Naoki nodded, turning his gaze to Raifort’s attire, and then noticed something particularly interesting.

The plaque on Raifort’s chest closely resembled the legendary Pokemon Articuno, and the headpiece she wore was very much like the emissary of Ho-oh, Marshadow.

The bracelet on her hand evidently had elements of Tapu Koko.

”Come on! Let’s count them together!” Raifort poured the coins from the bag onto the table.

Immediately, a small shimmering golden hill appeared in front of Naoki.

His first reaction was that if Gimmighoul saw this mountain of coins, it would be overjoyed, right?

Then the two began counting the ancient gold coins in front of them together.

As time ticked by, after about twenty minutes, Naoki finally had the exact number of coins.

142.

A total of 142 coins.

Adding the 31 coins in the Gimmighoul’s treasure chest, it totaled 173 coins.

”Still not enough!” Naoki couldn’t help but ponder.

He wondered what other ways he could acquire more coins.

”Altogether, it’s 142 League coins, the original price being 7,100,000, hmm... After the discount, it’s 4,970,000,” Geeta calculated using a pocket calculator.

Naoki snapped back to reality and nodded, having already gotten a considerable bargain and couldn’t haggle any further.

”Okay, I didn’t bring that much money with me. I’ll go to the bank in a bit, and I’ll transfer it to you,” he said.

Good thing he had sold the milk and crops from his warehouse before coming here, plus his family’s savings, which barely amounted to that much.

”Alright.” Raifort nodded with a gentle smile.

The two left the café and went straight to the bank, where Naoki transferred the money to Raifort.
