Not Being a Trainer This Time

Chapter 548: Chapter 313: Coffee and Flutter Mane

League Year 199, February 19th.

Seven days have passed since the Heroic Expedition Team departed, and with their departure, life on the ranch has once again returned to its former calm.

Under the dedicated guidance of Koraidon and Naoki, Flutter Mane is gradually learning to adapt to this era.

The only thing that troubles Naoki is that Flutter Mane’s schedule still hasn’t adjusted.

It sleeps all day and roams at night, leisurely floating in the air above the ranch, waving its wing claws, doing who knows what.

Due to past experiences, Naoki always worries that Flutter Mane might go hunting other Pokemon.

Day thoughts become night dreams.

That night, he had a terrible dream.

In the dream, the figure of Flutter Mane quietly overlapped with the image of Roaring Moon, cruelly and brutally preying on a small, pitiful Wattrel.

Naoki woke up in fright, distrustful, he turned over, got out of bed, and went to the ranch to check under the moonlight.

Only upon seeing Flutter Mane ”enjoying the moon” on the rooftop did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Flutter Mane, sitting on the chimney, heard the rustling sounds from below. It turned its head and saw Naoki draped in a coat, standing on the grass looking up at it.

”Dream?”

Flutter Mane looked a bit confused, thinking this human had something to ask it, so it floated down and came before Naoki.

Naoki felt he was overthinking, he reached out to pat Flutter Mane’s head and asked, ”How does life feel here?”

”Dream...”

Flutter Mane carefully recalled the life during this period.

There are no dangerous predators here that would ambush it, no need to worry about its territory being invaded by other Pokemon while resting, and no fear of going hungry or finding no food.

Moreover, everything here is gentle.

The night is gentle, the moon is gentle, and even the wind is gentle.

It very much likes the moon of this world and flies leisurely under the moonlight every quiet night.

The only thing that Flutter Mane finds a bit unaccustomed to is that it’s too... too quiet here.

Flutter Mane didn’t know how to express it, having not fought other Pokemon for so long, it felt uncomfortable, especially with its itchy teeth, always wanting to bite something fiercely.

But fortunately, it could endure this feeling itself.

Naoki had been observing Flutter Mane’s expressions, keenly noticing its small teeth-gnashing motions, thinking perhaps Flutter Mane’s teeth were itching?

Considering the fierce nature of ancient Pokemon, Naoki pondered for a moment and then asked, ”Do you feel a bit uncomfortable all over because you haven’t gone hunting?”

Hearing this, Flutter Mane was amazed, its blood-red eyes full of surprise, as if asking how did you know?

Naoki chuckled, then looked at Flutter Mane’s sharp little fangs, continuing to ask, ”Do you feel like your teeth are itching, and you really want to bite something?”

Flutter Mane was even more astonished.

Seeing this, Naoki understood in his heart.

This was something he had overlooked.

If there was something for Flutter Mane to chew on, would it alleviate its symptoms?

But what should be used? A chew toy?

Just then, Naoki suddenly remembered that there was a thick bone that Teddiursa had picked up from outside at home.

Such bones are very hard and would commonly be used by Marowak and Cubone as weapons in the wild.

If this were given to Flutter Mane, could it ease its symptoms?

So, he immediately turned and went back to the living room, retrieved that big leg bone from the storage room, cleaned it, and handed it to Flutter Mane.

Flutter Mane took it with its wing claws, looked down at the big leg bone before it, and its wild instincts suddenly kicked in, instinctively starting to gnaw at the bone, polishing its teeth with the bone once used by a Marowak as a weapon.

As it gnawed and gnawed, it glanced at Naoki.

Noticing Flutter Mane’s little glance, Naoki smiled and gently patted its head: ”Behave now!”

Flutter Mane stopped its bone-gnawing action, looked up blankly.

Under the bright moonlight, the human’s face appeared so gentle.

It could feel the sincere emotions emanating from the other, filled with expectation, tenderness, blessing...

Moments from its life here started flashing in its mind.

The way this human prepared food for it, taught it not to eat raw meat, taught it how to fight, and the worried face looking at it under the moonlight...

An unfamiliar feeling surged in Flutter Mane’s heart once again.

It finally understood why Koraidon liked this human so much.

It felt that it also had started to like Naoki, just a little bit.

To adjust Flutter Mane’s schedule, the next morning, after finishing work on the ranch, Naoki went to town to buy some coffee bean seeds.

Once back at the ranch, he went to the Glass Greenhouse, found an empty flower pot, dug a trowel of soil, and planted the coffee beans in.

Then, Naoki brought the flower pot back to the living room, hoping to ask Calyrex for help in maturing them.

Calyrex was engrossed in watching TV, upon hearing Naoki’s words, it didn’t even turn its head, just waved its hand slightly, and a brilliant light burst from the flower pot.

When the light faded, a coffee tree about one and a half meters tall, with its branches laden with coffee berries, appeared in Naoki’s arms.
