Reborn As Super Heiress

”Mr. Liang!”

The middle-aged con artist entered the private room with great excitement as he took out the signed guarantee document and handed it to the man who had been waiting for some time.

Huo Sining stood outside the private room and naturally observed the situation inside very clearly. She hadn’t seen the man sitting inside before, but his features and demeanor were very similar to someone she knew: Liang Pengzhi, whom she had met once at Jubao Pavilion.

Huo Sining didn’t have much contact with the Liang Family People. Apart from Liang Pengzhi, she had probably only had direct interaction with the two grandsons of the Liang Family, Liang Jinghong and Liang Junqi.

However, Huo Sining had already learned from the Huang Family People about the members of the Liang Family, so, although she hadn’t met this man before, she accurately and confidently deduced that this person was the illegitimate son Liang Pengzhi had brought in from outside years ago, Liang Ruicheng.

As the saying goes, a crooked upper beam leads to a slanted lower beam. Huo Sining had already experienced the character of Liang Jinghong and Liang Junqi, so she could guess what kind of person this Liang Ruicheng was.

A person who could set up such a lowly scheme couldn’t possibly be an upright character, and indeed, Huo Sining looked down on such people.

However, Huo Sining was still somewhat puzzled. Although she had some minor grievances with Liang Jinghong and Liang Junqi, those were minor conflicts and wouldn’t lead to attacking the old by beating the young. Then why would Liang Ruicheng target her?

Huo Sining couldn’t recall any instance where she had offended Liang Ruicheng enough for him to go to such lengths to deal with her.

While Huo Sining was still outside pondering, inside, the two people who had just entered the private room began their conversation.

”Is it done?”

Liang Ruicheng took a sip of tea, not even bothering to unfold the guarantee document on the table, and casually asked.

The middle-aged con artist nodded repeatedly: ”Your estimation was spot on. Initially, the boss was reluctant to sign the guarantee, but later I pretended to be tough, suggesting that if the guarantee wasn’t signed, the deal wouldn’t go through. Guess what? Once I said that, the boss got anxious and quickly agreed.”

Upon hearing this, Liang Ruicheng couldn’t help but laugh disdainfully: ”Just a twenty-something young lad—how deep could his scheming be? These few tricks and he’d be completely lost. What price did he quote?”

The middle-aged con artist recounted the scene: ”At first, I guessed she wanted to set the price at twenty million, but seeing my shocked expression, she settled at two million.”

Hearing this, Liang Ruicheng frowned deeply: ”Two million for a genuine Shen Zhou painting?”

The middle-aged con artist noticed Liang Ruicheng’s frown and, concerned, quickly asked: ”Mr. Liang, is there a problem?”

Liang Ruicheng shook his head: ”There’s no problem; it’s just priced too low.”

”Two million is still low?” The middle-aged con artist was taken aback.

Liang Ruicheng looked up and gave the con artist a sidelong glance, instilling fear in the man with his cold gaze so much that he no longer dared to speak.

Liang Ruicheng continued, ”If the painting is indeed a work of Shen Zhou, selling it for seven or eight million wouldn’t be a problem. But based on the situation, the price Tang Jinchuan sold it for wasn’t high either. That Li kid is still too timid and ignorant of the market. The higher the asking price for such paintings, the more likely they are to sell. Pricing it too low makes it hard to move. If you hadn’t taken it up this time, that painting might have stayed in Jubao Pavilion for a while.”

Seven or eight million?! The middle-aged con artist was stunned by this enormous figure and instinctively swallowed.

My god, a single painting worth seven or eight million, isn’t that exaggerated? That’s an amount he couldn’t earn in a lifetime.

The middle-aged con artist didn’t notice Liang Ruicheng’s later words and didn’t realize that during their conversation, they both overlooked one issue: Liang Ruicheng was always referring to a young lad and thought the person dealing with the con artist was Li Quan, while the con artist was unaware that although the store was owned by Li Quan, the actual owner was Huo Sining.

Their misunderstanding about the identities led to vastly different outcomes, but at this point, neither realized that things had already veered off their original plan.

”I’ve already paid the one thousand deposit, and this is the receipt.”

The middle-aged con artist took out a receipt from his bag, and Liang Ruicheng glanced at it nonchalantly, not paying much attention.

”I’ve already arranged for the expert. Tomorrow, just bring them over. Once they refund the two thousand deposit along with an extra one thousand as compensation, consider that your fee.” Liang Ruicheng said as he pushed the receipt and document back to the con artist without giving them another look.

The middle-aged con artist’s face lit up with surprise. Before taking this job, he had initially agreed with Mr. Liang to a fee of five thousand, but now the employer had voluntarily raised it to ten thousand just for two acts, making him feel like he was hit by a windfall.

He knew that working as an extra outside Beiying Factory could sometimes mean that he wouldn’t even make ten thousand in half a year.

At this moment, the con artist wished he had such plays to perform every day. If so, it wouldn’t be a year before he could buy an apartment in the Imperial Capital.

But little did the con artist know that in this world, there’s no such thing as a free lunch, and if there were, it would come at a cost.

The con artist collected the receipt and document but couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity, ”Mr. Liang, pardon my intrusion, but what kind of grievance do you have with the Jubao Pavilion owner to use such means?”

Upon hearing this, Liang Ruicheng’s expression turned cold, eyeing the middle-aged con artist sharply: ”Curiosity killed the cat. You only need to perform your duties. Don’t ask questions that aren’t meant for you. This isn’t something you should know!”

The con artist immediately shrank back in fear, realizing he had touched a nerve, and dared not inquire further, nodding hastily and staying silent for a long time before cautiously asking, ”Mr. Liang, how should I play tomorrow’s scene? Once the experts arrive, how should I cooperate? You’d better clarify first, or if I mess up this act...”

Before the con artist could finish speaking, Liang Ruicheng interrupted him: ”You don’t need to worry about that. Tomorrow, just follow the two people I hired. These two are experts in ancient calligraphy and painting authentication. They’ll draw their conclusions when they get there, and you don’t need to interfere. Just bring out the contract and say what you need to without saying anything unnecessary and make sure not to slip up!”
