Reborn As Super Heiress

Hearing Han Wen’s words, the two actors, Qiao Kun and Gong Lin, exchanged glances, both seeing surprise and anticipation in each other’s eyes.

It was definitely an unexpected surprise. Although the actors had high expectations for the skit ”Unlocking,” they knew very well that there were already quite a few skit programs in the Spring Festival Gala over the years. This year, there were six skits, and it wasn’t easy to stand out among them. But according to Han Wen, with Huo Sining’s participation this year, their skit might just take the top spot in viewership and win the first place at this year’s Gala.

Of course, whether they could reach the top wasn’t something Huo Sining was overly concerned with. The fact that she was able to perform the skit smoothly was already quite an achievement. Performing two consecutive programs was exhausting, not only for those few minutes on stage but also the preparation work backstage, changing costumes, and styling. So, after removing her makeup, she didn’t linger any longer. She left the TV station after meeting up with Master Lu and his group.

By the time they reached their new home, it was already past eleven at night. Gu Xu didn’t return to the Gu Family’s old residence either. Originally, the New Year’s Eve dinner was supposed to be eaten by many people together. On the way back from the TV station, Master Gu and Madam Gu had earnestly invited Huo Sining to have the reunion dinner at the Gu Family. However, since Huo Sining and Gu Xu were only dating and not yet married, Huo Sining felt it wasn’t appropriate to spend the New Year at the Gu Family. Furthermore, as she had brought Qibao along, it seemed even more inappropriate to visit the Gu Residence, so she politely declined the two elders’ request.

As soon as the car stopped at the gate of the courtyard, a voice was heard: ”You guys are so slow. Didn’t you say you’d be back by nine after performing the magic? How did it get dragged till now?”

Hearing the voice, Huo Sining was a bit taken aback and looked out the car window. Who else could those standing by the gate be if not Ouyang Jun and the others?

”What are you all doing here?” Huo Sining asked in surprise after getting off the car.

Ouyang Jun laughed, ”You and Xu Zi have moved into a new house, and during the New Year, there’s got to be some hustle and bustle. So, we decided to come over this year and join in the New Year’s Eve fun with you. How about it?”

Huo Sining, of course, had no objections. Who would mind more people during the New Year? The more lively, the better, she thought. So she quickly invited them into the house with a smile.

Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian came alone, but Song Hui brought along Zhang Shuang. Zhang Shuang was still dressed straightforwardly, with short hair cut to her earlobes and a fresh face, wearing a clean, casual sweatshirt, which was quite different from the typical professional women in the Imperial Capital. Yet, Huo Sining had a good impression of her.

After leading them into the house, Huo Sining hurried to the kitchen to get busy. She had prepared the New Year’s Eve dinner herself, following the customs of the Imperial Capital. She made dumplings but also prepared a table full of dishes. Rice cakes, hot pot, and fish were all served, and according to the Miao Ethnicity customs from Qibao’s home, she simmered a big pot of radish and pig’s trotters.

Although none of Ouyang Jun’s group had tasted Huo Sining’s cooking before, once the dishes were set on the table, the aroma was irresistible. The enticing smell filled the air, and the group quickly stopped chatting, each grabbing chopsticks to dig into the food.

The group had also watched Huo Sining’s magic performance that night and had seen the old gentlemen’s reactions during the fish-sending part on TV. They were already quite tempted. Now, with the full table, they eagerly grabbed the dishes without any regard for manners.

Not only Ouyang Jun and the others but even Heitan was drooling with anticipation. While the house was still fairly quiet before, with the arrival of these four, it suddenly filled with life. Especially since Huo Sining’s food was enhanced with Spiritual Energy, the dishes tasted even better than those from typical restaurants. Once they tasted the first bite, everyone couldn’t contain themselves and started wolfing down the food voraciously.

Huo Sining had been busy at the TV station for nearly ten hours. During that time, she hadn’t even had a moment to eat a warm meal. Her stomach had long been growling with hunger. Seeing the situation, she immediately joined the others, not caring about anything else. The seven people and one dog in the room enjoyed a lively and joyful New Year’s Eve dinner.

After the meal, with tables left in disarray, everyone sprawled on the sofas, rubbing their tummies and complaining about how delicious the food was, how they couldn’t control themselves, and ended up overeating.

After dinner, the group busied themselves setting off firecrackers and fireworks in the yard, then played cards and drank, chattering and laughing until two or three in the morning before each finding a room to sleep in.

The next morning, still groggy in bed, Huo Sining received a phone call. On the other end, someone excitedly announced:

”Miss Huo, congratulations! The results of the three most popular programs from last night’s Spring Festival Gala are out. Your two performances, ’Unlocking’ and ’A Tribute to the Mermaid Princess,’ have respectively won first and second place!”

Huo Sining was dazed for a moment before waking up from her slumber, clearly hearing the voice on the other end. Reacting a little slowly, she replied, ”Oh, Director Han, Happy New Year! What did you just say?”

Han Wen paused on the other end, realizing Huo Sining’s voice sounded a bit groggy, and guessed she might still be in bed. However, the news was too important, so she didn’t hang up just like that. Without feeling that she was disturbing Huo Sining’s sleep, she repeated the words again.

”Alright, I got it. Thank you. If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up for now.”

After understanding what Han Wen said, Huo Sining calmly hung up the phone.

Hearing the dial tone from the other end, Han Wen was a bit surprised, wondering how Huo Sining could hang up that easily. Such big news, yet Huo Sining seemed so nonchalant, hanging up so calmly?

Han Wen felt a little frustrated, incredulous at Huo Sining’s minimal reaction.

However, having delivered the news, she still needed to inform the other actors, so it wasn’t possible to call Huo Sining again. She could only sigh at how Huo Sining was indeed extraordinary, different from others, calm in the face of everything, and without a hint of shock over such big news.

”Whose phone call was that? Did something happen?” Gu Xu curiously asked when he saw Huo Sining hang up the phone.

Huo Sining mumbled, ”It was Han Wen, nothing important, just letting me know the program ratings results from last night are out.”

Slept-eyed and unable to fully open her eyes, Huo Sining groggily replied to Gu Xu, then slipped back into bed, burying her head into the pillow.

Seeing this, Gu Xu quickly extended his arm to pull her into his embrace. Huo Sining didn’t hesitate, automatically finding a comfortable position and falling back asleep.
