Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 438: Chapter 434: Gathering

Huo Sining felt that this Heavenly Eye skill was rather useless, but to her surprise, she soon found a use for it.

When the Huang Family learned that a thief had entered Huo Sining’s room the previous night, they were startled, and the house was thrown into chaos. After first checking on Huo Sining’s well-being and learning that she was unharmed, they then searched all the other rooms to ensure nothing was stolen, and only then did they feel relieved.

Huang Chengyi decided to call the police, but Huo Sining stopped him. For one, nothing had been stolen from the house, and spreading news of a break-in during the festive season would surely cause panic. Secondly, Huo Sining was well aware that the person hadn’t come to steal but to deliver that box to her; they just used a rather frightening method.

Huang Chengyi naturally sensed the change in Huo Sining’s demeanor and realized that she might be hiding something, so he did not insist further, and the matter of the thief was dropped.

According to Huo Sining’s plans, she was preparing to return to S City on the tenth day of the Lunar New Year, so after enjoying a couple of days of leisure, she was dragged back by Zhou Shitao to continue studying. Her Spring Festival was spent in utter distress and could be described as nothing short of a miserable experience.

Of course, the effects were also very apparent. Huo Sining had an excellent memory and could almost completely recall the thick appraisal books after reading them two or three times.

But simply remembering was of no use. Appraising antiques required application of knowledge, especially some obscure knowledge that could come in handy during appraisals and even serve as the key to avoiding being deceived.

Having finally gained some freedom, Huo Sining received a call from Gu Xu.

It turned out that Ouyang Jun had suggested a gathering with their childhood friends. Those with families were to bring them along. Gu Xu was asking if she was available, and if so, to join them for a meal together.

Huo Sining had no objections to this arrangement and was ready to leave the Zhou Family’s home and take a taxi to the gathering’s location when, to her surprise, she saw Ouyang Jun’s car just as she stepped outside.

”What are you doing here?” Huo Sining was puzzled as Zhou Shitao’s house was rather remote and a considerable distance from the military compounds.

”Hey, I was in the area on business, and I heard from Xu Zi that you were at the Zhou Family’s place, so I thought I’d swing by and pick you up,” Ouyang Jun replied.

When Ouyang Jun saw Huo Sining, he rushed forward to greet her as if he had seen a savior, earnestly opening the car door for her.

To ignore his eagerness would be naive; he was either a scoundrel or a thief. Seeing Ouyang Jun’s smile, Huo Sining couldn’t help but think these words.

She got into the car with a smile that was not quite a smile and looked at Ouyang Jun, asking, ”Spill it, what do you want?”

Such an excuse as being ’on the way’ was far too fake, only a fool would believe such nonsense.

Ouyang Jun did not expect Huo Sining to be so blunt, and he chuckled awkwardly before sheepishly saying, ”Well, I heard you have some top-quality Mutton Fat Jade...”

As soon as Ouyang Jun opened his mouth, Huo Sining knew what he wanted to say.

Before the Lunar New Year, Huo Sining had visited the Gu Family and presented Mr. Gu with a set of Go pieces; each piece was finely made, uniform in size, with a smooth texture, crafted from the finest Hetian White Jade and Mo Yu.

The Gu Family had no idea the gift Huo Sining had brought was so valuable until Master Gu took out the Go game and everyone was surprised, their eyes widening in shock.

Madam Gu felt the gift was too valuable and suggested returning it, but Master Gu was tightly clutching the Go game to his chest, like a child guarding his favorite toy, refusing to let anyone touch it.

”What’s the problem? It’s a gift from my granddaughter-in-law, why can’t I accept it?!” he protested.

Master Gu puffed up his mustache and glared displeasedly, and anyone could see that the Go set had caught his eye.

Members of the Gu Family had no choice, and Mrs. Gu hurriedly called Huo Sining to inquire. After learning that those Go pieces were gambled for in Hetian by her, Mrs. Gu didn’t insist further.

Having gotten his way, Master Gu couldn’t let go of the two boxes of black and white Go pieces and couldn’t wait to show off to his old buddies within a couple of days.

In the military compound, there were only so many people, and Ouyang Jun’s grandfather naturally saw Master Gu’s set of black and white Go pieces, so very quickly, this news reached Ouyang Jun’s ears.

Ouyang Jun was surprised to hear that Huo Sining had sliced mutton fat jade and ink jade from the raw jade stones purchased in Hetian.

Last time he stayed in Hetian until the end of the year, he also attended the jade fair but did not purchase the mutton fat jade he wanted. Thus, he had been worrying about the mutton fat jade throughout the Spring Festival period.

Now hearing suddenly that Huo Sining had mutton fat jade in her possession, Ouyang Jun wouldn’t bother looking far when it was near at hand and quickly thought of an excuse: a reunion of childhood friends.

”Two hundred thousand!”

Huo Sining stretched out two fingers.

Ouyang Jun was stunned, ”What two hundred thousand?”

Huo Sining smiled as she watched Ouyang Jun, ”Money, of course. I already mentioned it last time in Hetian, I paid in advance for you, and if you wanted to take it back, you need to make up for it. It was originally one hundred and forty thousand, but I should charge some interest, two hundred thousand would do.”

Ouyang Jun understood, but his expression became even more bewildered, ”You mean the piece retrieved from the Mei Family has appreciated?”

Huo Sining nodded, ”Hetian white jade, very pure, virtually flawless. If you want it, two hundred thousand to take it back is fine. This piece weighs about two to three jin, and I don’t know what you want to use it for, not sure if this much is enough.”

”Enough, enough! It’s more than enough!”

Ouyang Jun, hearing what Huo Sining said, was immediately excited. He had been struggling to find a one kilogram piece of mutton fat jade seed material, so having two to three jin would definitely be more than sufficient.

However, genuine Hetian mutton fat jade material once cut, would cost more than a thousand yuan per gram, so two to three jin of rough jade would be worth at least three million. Now, Huo Sining was only asking for two hundred thousand from him, which meant he was getting an extremely good deal.

Ouyang Jun was not a stingy man, especially since he never took advantage of women, so although Huo Sining said she’d only charge him two hundred thousand, he did not take it seriously.

He had thought the gathering would just be at some private restaurant in the city center, not expecting the Mercedes-Maybach to drive for over an hour, leaving the city, heading further and further towards the outskirts.

Huo Sining, looking at the farm fields on both sides of the road, secretly felt fortunate she had ridden in Ouyang Jun’s car instead of taking a taxi; otherwise, she surely would have suspected she’d met a black cab driver kidnapper, because this place was just too remote.

The car zigzagged on an asphalt road and soon stopped in front of an estate.

This was a farm estate, with walls over two meters high surrounding it. Following the dim lights, Huo Sining saw a plaque hanging above the gate, with the words ”Diecuiyuan” engraved on the beam.

At the entrance of the estate, a large iron gate guarded the way. Next to the gate was an automatic card scanner, and Ouyang Jun pulled out a card from his pocket, swiped it, and the iron gate silently opened to both sides. The car drove in and soon parked in a carport.
