Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 402: Chapter 398 Itchy Oh Itchy

Liu Meiling subconsciously reached out to scratch, not expecting that the more she scratched, the itchier and worse it became.

Soon, her entire body felt uncomfortable, and overwhelmed by the unbearable itching, Liu Meiling woke up from her sleep and, in a rush, got out of bed, turned on the light, and headed to the bathroom.

Not suspecting anything, but once she looked, it scared her out of her wits.

”Ah--”

Looking at the dreadful face in the mirror, covered in dark red bumps, Liu Meiling involuntarily widened her eyes in terror and let out a cry of alarm.

”What’s wrong? What’s wrong?”

Startled by Liu Meiling’s scream, Xu Xia quickly got out of bed and, entering the bathroom, Liu Meiling let out another loud yell, ”Mom, your... your face...”

”What’s wrong with my face?” Xu Xia subconsciously scratched again and turned her head to look in the mirror.

Xu Xia’s face was covered in patches of red bumps, and it wasn’t just on her face— wearing the robe Liu Meiling had bought for her, which had loosened due to tossing and turning in bed, the bumps had sprouted on her neck, the exposed arms and thighs, and even her chest showed large and small pustules.

”What’s going on here?”

Xu Xia was utterly panicked, turning to look at Liu Meiling and found that her daughter had developed the same bumps on her face.

Liu Meiling couldn’t help but shudder; the more she looked at the bumps on Xu Xia’s body, the more she felt an unbearable itch on her own neck, arms, chest, back, and even her legs, and she was tempted to reach out and scratch them.

Liu Meiling, who always prized her beauty, was already uncomfortable with so many bumps on her face, and now she had to suppress the urge to scratch, making her entire body tense and almost breaking into tears.

”It must be the hotel’s lack of cleanliness! Mom, stop scratching, it’s getting worse! No, we have to wake up the aunts, call the police, and then go to the hospital, after which we can use the hospital’s certification to make the hotel compensate for our losses!”

Liu Meiling angrily stared at her swollen face in the mirror, on the verge of crying out loud.

However, Liu Meiling, more knowledgeable than the village women like Xu Xia, immediately realized the hotel’s environmental hygiene might be the issue and thought of the most effective solution.

Upon hearing Liu Meiling’s words, Xu Xia immediately went to knock on the door of Xu Lian and the others’ room, persistently knocking for several minutes before Xu Lian and the others finally woke up. When someone opened the door, Xu Xia was taken aback.

It wasn’t just herself and Liu Meiling; the three people in Xu Lian’s room had also suffered the same fate, each of them covered in similar bumps.

Xu Lian and Huo Yong could still bear it, but Huo Longjiang, a restless monkey, couldn’t control the itch, scratching the most fiercely, which resulted in the most bumps on his body, densely covering him.

This completely terrified everyone, and soon Xu Lian began throwing a tantrum, cursing loudly enough to wake up the guests on that entire floor and several others, also attracting the attention of the hotel’s duty manager.

None of the other guests exhibited this symptom of developing large blisters, but seeing Xu Lian and her party of five covered in them, the onlookers felt uncomfortable in their own skin despite standing several meters away.

Perhaps it was psychological, but after seeing the blisters on Xu Lian and her group, the other guests began to feel itchy themselves. They wanted to scratch, but seeing Xu Lian’s group get worse the more they scratched, they forcibly controlled their urge to reach out and scratch.

Some of the more timid guests quickly demanded to check out and get a refund, causing a commotion in the hotel in the middle of the night.

The duty manager had never seen anything like this before. He had worked at this hotel for several years, and this was the first time such an incident had occurred.

The duty manager insisted that there was definitely no problem with the hotel’s sanitary conditions, but Xu Lian and her party were fine before they checked in and only developed the pus-filled blisters after a night’s sleep.

Xu Lian cursed and acted up, and though the duty manager tried to reason with her, he had no choice but to call the police and wait for them to handle the situation.

The police arrived quickly. Three patrol officers came to the hotel and were shocked at the appalling condition of Xu Lian’s five-person group.

”What happened here?” one of the officers asked.

”Officer Liu, these guests checked into our hotel yesterday afternoon. After one night, they developed these bumps. They insist it’s our hotel’s fault, but the guests in the two adjacent rooms didn’t experience anything like this!”

Clearly familiar with the officer, the duty manager rushed to explain the situation before Xu Lian could speak, attempting to put things in proper light. He also offered a cigarette to the officer, trying to curry favor.

The officer who came to respond was Liu Ming, who had recently been removed from his position as captain of the Luwan District Police Station. His uncle had promised to transfer him to work at the City Police Department, but that opportunity had fallen through, along with his captaincy, reducing Liu Ming to a patrol officer without rank or reputation.

Being a police officer was like that; the lower you were in the ranks, the fewer rights you had. Bright insignia drew attention, and a little background could help you get promoted, but you couldn’t take that as a license to act like you were above the law or disregard everyone. In this world, there were always bigger fish. Misstep and hit a snag like Liu Ming, and you’d end up in a tragic predicament.

Liu Ming learned his lesson and no longer acted arrogantly, careful not to give anyone a handle against him. Even his uncle Hu Changlin was walking on eggshells, acting with extreme caution, because someone was watching from above.

Liu Ming could tell from the manager’s practiced motion of offering a cigarette what he was trying to do. But now that Liu Ming was no longer the station captain and had to report his actions to Captain Li Wei, he dared not break the rules under Li Wei’s watchful eye.

”Don’t try that with me.”

Liu Ming deliberately kept a stern expression and turned to look at Xu Lian and the others, but he couldn’t help but flash a look of disgust. The sight of them was simply too nauseating.

”You people involved, tell me what happened,” Liu Ming asked Xu Lian and the group.

Liu Meiling, worried that Xu Lian would spout nonsense and cause a scene in front of the police just like a bumpkin, quickly began,

”Police uncle, here’s what happened. We came to S City to look for relatives. After a thirty-something-hour train ride and being utterly exhausted, we decided to find a hotel and rest for the night. So, we checked into two rooms at this hotel.”
