Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 406: Chapter 402: If You Can’t Affront Them, Avoid Them

”Wait a moment...”

An orphan, surnamed Huo, from Bashu, without father or mother, who made a living in Imperial Capital and opened up a store. An image flashed before Liu Ming’s mind, and he suddenly lifted his head to look at Xu Lian and the others, asking with some uncertainty, ”Your surname is Huo?”

”Yes,” Xu Lian was somewhat annoyed by Liu Ming suddenly interrupting her cursing, but since he was a policeman after all, she didn’t dare to show her irritation.

Liu Ming’s heart tightened. He looked at Xu Lian and Huo Yong, trying to find traces of that woman on these people, but he couldn’t find any resemblance to her.

He silently criticized himself for being overly sensitive, still traumatized by that woman’s scam, thinking that anyone with the surname Huo must be related to her.

Nevertheless, he still needed to ask the necessary questions, and finally, he asked, ”What is your niece’s name?”

”Her name is Huo Sining.”

Liu Ming’s expression froze solid on his face, and a million ”grass mud horses” galloped through his heart.

He suddenly stood up, grabbed the officer and left without looking back.

”Officer, where are you going?” Liu Meiling saw Liu Ming walking out, and couldn’t help but freeze, promptly calling out.

Liu Ming gave a wry smile, turned back to look at Liu Meiling and the others, and shrugged, ”I’m afraid I can’t help you with your problem, you’d better seek someone more capable!”

What a joke, the last time he had arrested that woman, his position as the squad leader had been stripped, causing an uproar among his superiors, even attracting trouble from the Party Secretary and the Special Forces of the military district.

Knowing full well that woman was trouble, he had already fallen into that pit once; did he really want to fall in again? Unless he was out of his mind, he wouldn’t dare mess with that woman again, even if he had the guts.

Liu Ming turned back to glance at Xu Lian and the others’ dismal state, and subconsciously shuddered!

In just a few hours, those lumps kept protruding from their skin. The dark red swellings that had initially formed had all burst, and dark, foul-smelling pus oozed from them, which was extremely disgusting.

Liu Ming had originally thought that Huo Sining was just someone with an uncle who was the Party Secretary, but now he realized he had underestimated that woman—aside from a powerful backing, she was actually capable of witchcraft!

Liu Ming had read novels about Miaojiang sorcerers mentioning that the Miao people’s witchcraft was terribly frightening. They had countless ways to cast spells, and many became unwitting victims.

Moreover, the Miao are very tenacious in character. Once provoked, they would not rest until their goals were achieved.

Liu Ming couldn’t be sure whether Huo Sining was a successor to the Miao sorcerers, but she came from Bashu, which is part of Miaojiang, so the possibility was quite high.

Liu Ming wasn’t the most competent officer, but he feared death greatly. Confronted with issues that couldn’t be explained by science, he preferred to err on the side of caution. He simply couldn’t afford to offend the Miao people.

Liu Ming felt a wave of fear within him, thankful that although he had colluded with Huo Biao back in the day, he had not done anything too outrageous to Huo Sining, otherwise, he might have ended up as tragically as Xu Lian and her family.

Liu Ming and the junior officer fled in complete disarray, while Xu Lian and the others were left utterly confused, not understanding what had just happened.

”Why did the police leave, are they even going to take care of this anymore?”

Seeing that the police had left, Xu Lian finally felt panic, anxiously shouting out.

Doctor Chen and the nurses showed a face of disdain; if they felt any sympathy for these people before, it had now turned into deep disgust.

These few people coveted their niece’s property and had hence suffered retaliation, but they showed no signs of remorse. People who behave like this are despised rather than pitied by onlookers.

On one hand, Xu Lian and the others were in misery, itching all over—as if in deep water and scorching fire—while on the other hand, Wu Jingyi in Imperial Capital was far from calm.

Due to the online scandal, Di Du Medical University responded quickly, first denouncing rumors that the university protected students, and then issuing a statement promising to deal with the incident seriously; if the accusations were true, the student involved would be disciplined, and if they were false, the rumor-mongers would be sued.

Netizens joked that the Medical University’s response would probably be all bark and no bite, but within a couple of days, Wu Jingyi received a call from her university’s advisor.

Because the incident had caused extremely adverse consequences and impact on the university, after an investigation and deliberation, the university leaders decided to advise Wu Jingyi to withdraw.

Wu Jingyi was completely stunned when she heard the news; she had not expected the incident to affect her directly.

She had intended to destroy that woman Huo Sining, but Huo Sining reacted very quickly, and with the support of big V’s, she rebounded swiftly, becoming even more popular than before.

As for Wu Jingyi, her attempt to steal the chicken only resulted in her losing the rice; not only had her Weibo been exposed, along with her privacy, but now she was also being advised to leave the university!

Wu Jingyi was simply furious, feeling that the whole world was filled with malice towards her. Why could that woman, Huo Sining, overcome the crisis while she was being asked to withdraw by the university?!

Just at that moment, Liang Jinhong came over and saw Wu Jingyi standing despondently in the room. He couldn’t help but be puzzled and asked carelessly, ”What happened?”

Wu Jingyi saw him as a lifesaver and put on a sorrowful face to tell him about being advised to leave the university.

Liang Jinhong frowned and, recalling Wu Jingyi’s mention of her girlfriend’s incident before, couldn’t help but reveal a trace of coldness in his eyes, ”It must have been that girlfriend of yours playing tricks. It seems this girl has an unusual background; probably someone pressured your university.”

”What do I do? The university thinks those rumors are true, that I’m really being kept by someone, so they want me to leave.”

A glimmer flashed in Wu Jingyi’s eyes, and she suddenly looked up at Liang Jinhong, ”Why don’t you go and clarify with the university for me? As long as you say we’re in a relationship, the university should stop pursuing it.”

After saying this, Wu Jingyi looked at Liang Jinhong intently, her eyes shimmering with hopeful anticipation.

Initially, Liang Jinhong had approached Wu Jingyi with the intention of merely having fun, but as they spent more time together, he found her naïve and considerate, always seeming to understand what was on his mind.

Moreover, Wu Jingyi was very uninhibited in bed, a perfect combination of innocent Lolita and sultry seductress, exactly Liang Jinhong’s type.

Usually, Liang Jinhong would change companions every month, but this time he had stayed with her for three or four months without growing tired of her, and even started to harbor the thought of continuing this affair indefinitely.
