Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 435: Chapter 431: Who Exactly is Uncle Tong

The middle-aged man, upon hearing Huo Sining’s words, was as puzzled as a monk scratching his head, ”Seen him?”

Huo Sining nodded, ”Yes, since you are old comrades with so many unforgettable memories, there must be a lot to talk about after so many years without seeing each other.”

The middle-aged man’s mouth held a bitter smile, ”You’re right, it has been many years since we’ve seen each other, and if it were possible to meet again, I’m afraid we could talk for three days and nights and still not finish. Sadly, that separation was eternal; your father at least had his remains found, but Ling Tong...”

The more Huo Sining listened, the more she sensed something was wrong. By the end, she was utterly dumbfounded and asked uncertainly, ”Are you saying... Uncle Tong has also passed away?”

The middle-aged man nodded, ”You didn’t know? Back then, Ling Tong and your father were on a mission together. They both went to Bashu, and after the accident, the searchers went to Bashu to look for them. They only found your father. Ling Tong’s body fell into a ravine and could not be found; one could say there were no remains left.”

Upon hearing this, Huo Sining’s face suddenly turned pale, her heart shocked.

Huo Sining’s complexion instantly turned white, ”Are you certain Uncle Tong has passed away? Could there be some mistake?”

”How could there be a mistake? I personally led the team to collect your father’s remains in Bashu.”

The middle-aged man found Huo Sining’s question utterly bewildering. After finishing his statement, he quickly walked away down the hill, while Huo Sining went from shock to panic, staring at the gravestone in front of her with an empty mind.

If Uncle Tong had also died, then who was the person living in the old home?!

With such doubts, Huo Sining hazily descended the mountain. When leaving the Martyrs’ Forest, a black sedan jostled as it drove out of the cemetery, passing right by Huo Sining.

Huo Sining didn’t look up, so she didn’t notice that inside the sedan, a pair of eyes were intently fixed on her, their gaze deep.

After returning to the city, Huo Sining didn’t go straight to the Huang Family home but instead visited the old house again.

Once inside, she went straight to the back room. When she reached Uncle Tong’s room, he was indeed there, carefully retrieving a box from above the rafters.

The back room was dimly lit, and Uncle Tong was slowly descending the ladder with the box in his arms.

Just then, an object slid off the top of the box and headed straight for Uncle Tong.

”Watch out!”

It happened in the blink of an eye, Huo Sining almost instinctively rushed forward, reaching out to catch the falling object.

Unexpectedly, the object slipped through her hands and struck her squarely on the forehead.

”Ouch--”

Huo Sining blacked out from the impact, taking a while to come to her senses.

Uncle Tong leapt down from the ladder in a few strides, set the object on the ground, and hurried over to Huo Sining to check on her.

”Ah... uh...” Uncle Tong gestured frantically, his throat emitting broken, hoarse sounds as if he was asking Huo Sining if she was alright.

Huo Sining shook her head and reached to touch her forehead, feeling a sticky fluid.

Uncle Tong also saw the blood on Huo Sining’s forehead and quickly turned to rummage through his drawer. He found a roll of bandage and hastened to tend to the wound on her forehead.

Huo Sining repeatedly waved her hands, indicating she could do it herself.

Uncle Tong didn’t insist, but his gaze remained fixed on Huo Sining.

With no other choice, Huo Sining had originally planned to use her Spiritual Energy to treat the wound, but now with Uncle Tong staring intently, she could only bandage her own forehead.

Only then did Uncle Tong relax, making a gesture to ask Huo Sining about her trip to Martyrs’ Forest.

Thinking of the middle-aged man she encountered in Martyrs’ Forest, Huo Sining’s expression darkened, she casually brushed off the question, but her gaze fell on Uncle Tong with suspicion.

Uncle Tong, oblivious to Huo Sining’s strange behavior, bent down to open the box he had taken down, apparently looking for something.

Previously, Uncle Tong had always faced Huo Sining directly, and he was also dressed very modestly, so Huo Sining hadn’t noticed the condition of Uncle Tong’s skin, but now that he leaned over, her gaze immediately fell on his neck.

The skin on Uncle Tong’s neck appeared fair and delicate, starkly different from the dark, scar-laden skin on his face.

An unusual feeling crossed Huo Sining’s mind; her gaze inadvertently swept across and suddenly landed on a section of skin exposed at Uncle Tong’s neck, causing her to stiffen.

At the root of Uncle Tong’s ear, a familiar red mark prominently caught Huo Sining’s eye.

Exhausted, she returned to the Huang Family home, her mind still in chaos.

Since she had already called the Huang Family in advance, they didn’t ask too much about where she had been.

Huo Sining felt panicked inside, even when lying in bed her mind was cluttered, struggling to make sense of it all.

In the middle of the night, Huo Sining felt half-consciously that someone seemed to be staring at her bedside, at first she thought she was dreaming, until it dawned on her that something wasn’t right. Her heart skipped a beat, she suddenly opened her eyes, and saw a shadowy figure standing at the head of her bed.

Huo Sining was so terrified she almost lost her soul, shouting loudly, ”Who are you? What do you want?”

The shadow seemed just as surprised by Huo Sining’s alertness despite her deep sleep, seeing her awaken, it didn’t speak, but leaped out of the window in one bound.

Huo Sining then realized the window of her room was open, she rushed to it, the outside was pitch-dark, and she saw the shadow brazenly jumping into the snowy night, vanishing into the dark without a trace.

”Ningning, what’s wrong?”

Su Qingqing, next door, woke up from her sleep upon hearing Huo Sining’s loud shout, rushed to the door of Huo Sining’s room and banged on it, shouting anxiously when there was no response from Huo Sining.

”I’m okay!” It was several seconds before Huo Sining’s voice came from inside the room, upon which Su Qingqing finally breathed a sigh of relief.

”What happened?” On the other side, Huang Hanyun was also awakened and came out wearing her clothes.

Huang Hanyun had a spare key to open Huo Sining’s room door, the two women opened the door and seeing Huo Sining standing safely at the window, Su Qingqing completely eased her mind.

Huo Sining stood dazedly looking at the disappearing shadow outside the window, her expression confused, her eyes full of unspeakable panic and bewilderment.

”Ningning, what just happened?” Seeing Huo Sining’s demeanor was off, Huang Hanyun couldn’t help but step forward, press Huo Sining’s shoulders, and shake them.

”I don’t know; I was sleeping groggily and felt someone enter my room, and when I opened my eyes, I saw a shadow jumping out of the window!” Huo Sining came to her senses and shook her head.
