Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 404: Chapter 400 Gu Poison

”What do you mean we offended someone? Doctor, could you please explain clearly? We really haven’t offended anyone; what exactly is going on here?”

Liu Meiling and her daughter Xu Xia were utterly confused, just like someone encountering a riddle. Liu Ming on the other side was equally puzzled, not to mention Huo Yong and his father, who were completely lost.

”Yeah, don’t beat around the bush anymore. It’s hard for me to watch them like this. If you speak clearly, we, the police, can start an investigation,” Liu Ming said, losing his patience and asking anxiously.

He wasn’t being enthusiastic, nor was he usually eager to help others; it was simply that everyone has a sense of curiosity. The more Doctor Chen hesitated and concealed information, the more curious he became, wanting to know what secrets were hidden.

Doctor Chen glanced at Huo Longjiang, who was enduring the itching without scratching, and, with a soft heart, said:

”Although I have never seen it with my own eyes, I have read about it in a book. The symptoms described in that book are strikingly similar to your condition—suddenly falling ill without a known cause and resistant to any treatment.”

At this point, Doctor Chen’s eyes revealed a complex emotion. He had always thought such things were only legends, yet he had encountered them in real life.

Drawing a deep breath, he finally summoned the courage to say, ”I said you may have offended someone because I suspect that you might all have been poisoned by Gu poison.”

”Gu poison?!”

Liu Ming’s face showed shock, looking at Xu Lian and the others enduring discomfort, their expressions twisted in pain, he felt the notion was absurd:

”Are you joking? Isn’t that stuff only found in novels? How could it appear here? If this thing really exists in the world, wouldn’t everyone be in danger, and wouldn’t it be total chaos by now?”

Doctor Chen smiled, ”You don’t believe it, neither do I. Of course, you can also suspect that my medical skills aren’t up to par, but you are free to take them to other hospitals to see. Go check with other dermatologists and see if they have a way.”

Seeing Doctor Chen’s self-deprecating smile, Liu Ming’s expression involuntarily stiffened. For some reason, at that moment, he felt that the old doctor wasn’t joking.

”What in the world is going on? Does Gu poison really exist? Is it someone from Miaojiang? But even if these people had such a thing, they wouldn’t casually reveal their identity by using it, would they? How did they manage to cross paths with such people?”

Liu Ming felt puzzled. These villagers might be a bit uncouth, but they hadn’t done anything outrageous enough to be cursed with Gu poison, had they?

Hearing Liu Ming’s question, Doctor Chen couldn’t help but laugh and, gesturing towards the group with a nod, said:

”You’ll have to ask them. As I said, the Gu poison must have been used in the past couple of days; otherwise, it wouldn’t have manifested just now. Where they have been, whom they have met, and what conflicts they might have had in these two days will tell you all you need to know.”

Liu Ming immediately came to his senses and asked Xu Lian and the others, ”Who have you met in the past two days? Have you had any conflicts with anyone?”

Xu Lian shook her head and said, ”No, we just came here by train from Bashu Province. We were on the train the whole time before that, and we didn’t get off the train until about nine o’clock yesterday morning. We didn’t meet anyone.”

”Did you have any conflicts with someone on the train?” Liu Ming frowned upon hearing Xu Lian’s response.

Caught off guard by the question, Xu Lian glanced at Huo Yong and Xu Xia, her eyes flickering for a moment before she stuttered out, ”No... no.”

Although Liu Ming didn’t have any particularly outstanding skills in handling cases, he had solid basic abilities, and he could tell that Xu Lian’s shifty eyes revealed her guilt. He suddenly became stern and demanded,

”I advise you to tell the truth. This concerns your own health. If you don’t speak up, we won’t be able to help you find the person who poisoned you!”

Xu Lian’s plump figure shrank at this, and she looked at Liu Ming uncertainly, asking, ”Officer, are we really poisoned?”

Liu Ming dared not confirm anything; not even Doctor Chen himself could be completely certain. But with this situation, they, as police officers, must investigate seriously and rule out these possibilities one by one.

”Gu poison isn’t like ordinary chemical poisoning; it’s very peculiar. Except for the person who casts the curse, no one else can undo it. I see you’re suffering quite a bit. If you want to be cured, it depends on whether you’re willing to cooperate!”

Xu Lian felt a shiver in her heart. Seeing Huo Longjiang in agony, feeling both angered and distressed, she quickly grabbed Huo Longjiang’s hand and twisted it behind his back to prevent him from scratching.

Huo Longjiang’s whole body itched unbearably, and being restrained by Xu Lian, he naturally couldn’t move. He immediately began to curse, ”It must have been that bitch on the train!”

Despite Huo Longjiang’s young age, he had picked up Xu Lian’s habits. The coarse and vulgar words ”bitch,” ”whore,” ”slut” spilled out whenever he opened his mouth. His outburst made Doctor Chen and the nurse in the room furrow their brows.

But Liu Ming couldn’t afford to worry about that at the moment. Hearing Huo Longjiang’s words, he sensed something amiss and hurriedly pressed, ”What happened? What exactly happened on the train?”

Liu Ming’s gaze was sharp, and his police uniform carried an intimidating presence. Under Liu Ming’s stare, Xu Lian grew timid and hesitatingly recounted the trouble her unruly child had caused on the train.

It turned out that after Xu Lian and her family boarded the train from Bashu to S City, Huo Longjiang began to act up, looking around sneakily, and eyeing things to steal without anyone noticing.

Xu Lian didn’t bother to discipline him. She acted tyrannically and always believed that whatever her child did was right, and if there were any problems, it was someone else’s fault. So, she didn’t think Huo Longjiang’s pilfering on the train was wrong, and she was even proud and impressed by her son’s cunning.

However, it wasn’t long before Huo Longjiang appeared in front of Xu Lian, crying and cradling his swollen face, brought by a conductor.

It turns out Huo Longjiang had his eye on a remote-controlled car held by another child in the aisle. Having never seen such a sophisticated toy in the countryside, he became greedy and attempted to steal it when the child wasn’t looking.

But Huo Longjiang was far from a professional thief. His inept stealing skills were exposed the moment he got a hold of the remote-controlled car, and the child noticed. The child cried out, drawing the attention of the adults.

The child’s mother was no pushover; upon seeing her son’s toy stolen, she slapped Huo Longjiang in anger, then handed him over to the conductor with plans to call the police.
