Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 433: Chapter 429: Get a Table Together

Upon arriving in the floral hall, they saw two elderly people sitting in the living room.

”Those are Grandpa and Grandma.”

Gu Xu hurriedly introduced, ”Grandpa, Grandma, this is Huo Sining, my girlfriend.”

Huo Sining followed Gu Xu and also called out ”Grandpa, Grandma,” then handed the gifts she was carrying to Mrs. Gu.

Madam Gu had already received news and knew Gu Xu would bring his girlfriend home. Now, seeing the young and pretty Huo Sining standing in front of them, she immediately became overjoyed. She stood up, took Huo Sining’s hand, and led her to sit on the sofa while continuously eyeing her with great interest.

The Old Granny, though over eighty years old with a head full of white hair, was still very spirited. She was smiling so wide at Huo Sining that her teeth were hidden by her grinning cheeks.

Master Gu, sitting on the other side, may not have shown much excitement, but a rare, faint smile appeared on his stern face. The look in his eyes made it clear that he was very satisfied with the girlfriend his grandson had chosen.

Unlike most parents who would interrogate with a barrage of questions, Madam Gu and Master Gu were very tactful in their conversation with Huo Sining. So she didn’t feel constrained at all, and the anxiousness she had been harboring settled down.

Soon after, the sound of a car engine was heard outside, and gradually, footsteps approached from the door. Before Huo Sining could react, a little firecracker-like Little Bun pounced into her arms.

”Mommy, Mommy, that sweet-smelling auntie with the nice fragrance has come!”

As Huo Sining looked down, she saw Gu Chengxuan gazing at her with his big, wet, deer-like eyes, full of joy, as he tried to charm her.

The soft-hearted Huo Sining couldn’t help but squat down to pick up Gu Chengxuan and affectionately kissed Little Bun on the cheek.

”Chengxuan, do you still remember me?”

The little one nodded eagerly and gave Huo Sining a sweet kiss in return. Suddenly, as if something crossed his mind, he asked, ”Auntie, did you and Uncle bring a little brother back?”

Huo Sining: ...

The entire family burst into laughter upon hearing Little Bun’s childlike words, leaving Huo Sining somewhat embarrassed and her face flushed red.

Chen Yu and Gu Ming also entered the room and were surprised to see their son rush straight to Huo Sining the moment he came through the door. They exchanged a laugh and Huo Sining replied, ”The little brother will be here soon. By then, Chengxuan, you’ll be a big brother, and you’ll need to protect him, okay?”

Huo Sining grew even more embarrassed at this remark, but Little Bun’s expression was one of resolve as he nodded seriously with a clenched fist, ”I will definitely protect my little brother and not let the bad people bully him!”

After some playful banter, Gu Xu remembered to introduce his older brother and sister-in-law. The Gu family was simpler and easier to get along with than the Huang family, and Huo Sining quickly integrated with the family.

Master Gu seemed to seldom have the opportunity to see Gu Xu, so after chatting for a while, he couldn’t hold back. Like an old child, he dragged Gu Xu to the study to play chess, insisting that Huo Sining and Mrs. Gu watch from the sidelines.

With no choice but to accept, Gu Xu nodded and then sat with Master Gu in the wicker chairs of the study to begin their chess game.

Gu Xu’s chess skill was naturally of a different caliber compared to Huo Sining, the poor chess player. The father and son’s match was evenly matched; after more than an hour, they still couldn’t determine the winner.

As the stalemate continued, Madam Gu took advantage of Gu Xu’s inattentiveness and gestured several times behind Master Gu’s back. Immediately invigorated, Master Gu slightly curved his lips in pride and decisively placed his chess piece on the board.

Gu Xu’s eyes flickered with understanding as he chuckled, ”Observers should keep silent, Grandpa and Grandma. Together, you two are over a hundred and sixty years old. Isn’t it fun to pick on your grandson?”

Master Gu glanced at Huo Sining with a smile of triumph and said teasingly, ”Not convinced, huh? If you’re not convinced, you can have your wife help you!”

Huo Sining felt speechless and looked awkwardly at Gu Xu. Chess wasn’t her strong suit; she knew only the most basic moves. If she were to give advice, it would be better to just concede the game.

Seeing Huo Sining’s embarrassed expression, Gu Xu couldn’t help but chuckle quietly to himself.

Amidst the laughter, they finished the game of chess, and Mrs. Gu and Chen Yu, who had been busy in the kitchen, had also finished preparing the meal.

The lunch was typical, with a meat and vegetable balance, six dishes and a soup, all homely flavors, but the color, aroma, and taste were impeccable.

The Gu Family didn’t employ a housekeeper or cook, and all the meals were prepared by Chen Yu and Mrs. Gu. After drinking a bowl of hot soup, Huo Sining felt warm inside. Without any pretense, she tasted each dish and ate more of the ones she liked.

The atmosphere at lunch was pleasant. Madam Gu saw that Huo Sining ate heartily, unlike the girls nowadays who preferred dieting and eating like a cat, and was increasingly pleased.

Especially since Huo Sining’s cheeks were flushed with a healthy glow; the more Madam Gu looked at her, the more she liked her.

After the meal, Huo Sining rose to help clean up the dishes, but Mrs. Gu and Chen Yu quickly pulled her away, insisting she not trouble herself with the pile of dishes and said with laughter, ”Why don’t you go keep Grandpa company in chess or chat with Grandma? There’s no need for you to busy yourself here.”

On a girl’s first visit, how could they let Huo Sining do any work? Mrs. Gu cheerfully held Huo Sining’s hand, her eyes brimming with mirth.

Huo Sining was actually willing to help, but Chen Yu had already efficiently tidied up the dishes on the table, so she didn’t make a fuss and put down the dishcloth to head toward the living room.

Only Madam Gu and Master Gu were in the living room watching TV; Mr. Gu and the Gu brothers were nowhere in sight.

Huo Sining didn’t ask about Gu Xu’s whereabouts, instead, she kept the two elders company watching TV and chatting.

Chen Yu and Mrs. Gu, who had finished washing the dishes, soon joined them, and the conversation naturally led to the topic of games and leisure. Recalling that Huo Sining grew up in Bashu, Chen Yu suddenly became enthusiastic:

”People from your Bashu area really enjoy playing mahjong; you must know how to play, right?”

Huo Sining paused, and without lying, she nodded and said, ”Although I don’t play often, I do know a bit.”

That was an understatement. Back in Baiyun Village, Xu Lian and Huo Yong loved playing cards, sometimes even inviting card-playing friends over. When Xu Lian needed to use the restroom, she would sometimes ask Huo Sining to draw cards for her. Huo Sining, having been around it so much, had picked up the game even if she didn’t actively play.

Upon hearing that Huo Sining could play mahjong, Chen Yu’s spirits lifted, ”That will liven up the house! Grandma loves playing mahjong, and we’re always one person short for a game. Now we finally have a full table!”

Huo Sining’s forehead immediately creased with worry. Indeed, with Madam Gu, Mrs. Gu, Chen Yu, and herself, they had four players for a table.

By the time Mr. Gu and the Gu brothers emerged from the study, the four women of the Gu household had already gathered around a table and started playing. The sounds of mahjong tiles clacking filled the air, and both Madam Gu and Mrs. Gu were brimming with joy. Mr. Gu’s mouth twitched slightly before he finally said to his youngest son:

”You have good taste.”
