Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 45: Chapter 44: River Crab and Tofu Casserole

Liang Kuan stopped the train and first carried the two Night Demons out of the carriage.

After evolving, his strength had increased significantly, so carrying these scrawny beings in each hand was no problem.

He lifted the headless Night Demon, revealing a large patch of charred skin on its iron-gray body.

It was obviously electrocuted by Su Huan’s high voltage attack.

But when he picked up the Night Demon he had killed himself, he was surprised to see charred marks on it too.

Liang Kuan paused for a moment, then carried the two bodies out.

Just in time to see passengers disembarking from the rear carriages, while Su Huan stood there smiling with a register in hand, like King Yama calling roll.

When his name was called as he passed by, Liang Kuan couldn’t help but tense up.

Su Huan lifted an eyelid, ”Try to gather the bodies ahead later too, let Wan Xing collect them, and discard what’s of lesser value if there’s too much.”

”Understood.”

Seeing Liang Kuan board with the two Night Demon bodies, Su Huan continued checking the register.

Now everyone in the group had become Evolvers, sharing the burden, ensuring that even in his absence they could defend the train.

He glanced at the scorching sunlight, feeling it burn his back painfully after just standing for a few minutes.

The passengers looked weary, but compared to the refugees on the overpass, they were much better off.

Su Huan continuously calculated the food they had, adjusting ticket prices to keep people motivated to search for resources instead of complacently consuming them.

They had limited food reserves, and many were already starving.

There were still many tasks today, releasing them to find food was the priority.

Su Huan fanned the register, creating waves of hot air, ”As usual, three shares of resources, special tickets, new passenger.”

The crowd stirred slightly, a nearby scar-faced man asked, ”Bring in a new passenger, no need for resources?”

Su Huan smiled, ”Yes, just bring one new passenger, count it as one and a half shares of resources, two passengers free, same goes for anyone bringing back steel plates.”

”But—”

The crowd sensed the chill in Su Huan’s voice, straightening up to listen closely.

”I only want passengers aged sixteen to fifty.”

”A gap will be opened on the side fence later, get ready to head out.”

After Su Huan finished speaking, he hurried into the carriage.

Just now he had escorted Liang Kuan, depleting his own energy to the limit, even using some Pan-energy Crystals to replenish.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t be sweating under the sun.

He would personally set out to find a fire truck later, needing to replenish his energy quickly.

No way to send others, he was too short-handed.

As for those passengers behind...

Would those rabble-rousers shoot at zombies or him first if they got guns?

He’d have to go himself.

Before reaching the dining car, Su Huan heard some light humming.

”Life’s scenery is roaming, every time I’m lonely I look back, your love is always waiting nearby for me...” (voiceover)

It had a relaxed smoothness, like the hot wind wandering outside the train, bumping into him, swirling, then flowing away.

The sound flew freely and leisurely into the distance, leaving him momentarily stunned.

But it abruptly stopped at the climax as if something was discovered.

A rich savory aroma drifted from the carriage, like the yolk of a salted duck egg dripping with oil.

Su Huan stepped into the dining car, seeing a dish placed in the middle of the table with something heavy on top, and Yu Yue, wearing an apron, standing behind the cabinet with a white T-shirt replacing her ginger yellow shirt, and cream-colored ice silk wide-leg pants on the lower half.

She looked homely and soft.

On the induction cooker, a large clay pot was cooking, the savory aroma wafting from it.

As Su Huan approached, Yu Yue precisely placed something aside and retrieved a cup half-filled with Coke from the fridge, handing it to him.

Su Huan took it, sipped, ”Where did you get the clay pot?”

He knew what was in the kitchen.

”Found it in the luggage carriage, a brand new pot, never used, thought of making crab and tofu stew tonight.”

Yu Yue put her hands in front, legs closed tightly leaving not a gap, like a maid answering the master’s inquiries.

”Tofu?”

Su Huan glanced at the pressed item on the table, his eyes darkened, the young aunt seemed capable of quite a lot.

”It’s brined tofu, made this morning, perfect for dinner tonight.”

”The clothes too?”

”Yes.”

”Any for me?”

Looking at the slender sharp-eyed young man before her, Yu Yue’s almond eyes flashed with bewilderment.

How could he be cold and ruthless like a demon one moment, then like a child wanting candy the next?

The transition was so sleek it was unfathomable.

”Collected some, they’re in my room.” Yu Yue said, sneakily watching Su Huan’s expression.

Su Huan’s face turned slightly cold, ”If I don’t ask, you weren’t planning to give them to me, huh?”

”N-no, I’ll bring them to your room after cooking.”

Yu Yue said meekly.

Daily intimidation 1/1

Seeing her submissive look, Su Huan felt much more satisfied, gave a light hum, and sat on the orange cat sofa with his icy Coke, silently absorbing Pan-energy Crystals to recover energy.

After a while, feeling something amiss, Su Huan frowned and opened his eyes.

Suspiciously looking at the busy woman,

Where were the usual kitchen sounds? The chopping board, the knife? And the bubbling sound of the boiling clay pot, the hum of the air conditioner, all the reassuring living noises were gone.

Soon, Yu Yue stiffened under his icy gaze, slowly turning with a placating smile, ”I was afraid the cooking noise would disturb you...”

Su Huan’s face twitched, ”Don’t ever block my senses again!”

Silence was everywhere, how could he dare to close his eyes?

”Mmm...”

Instantly, a cacophony of sounds returned, and Su Huan finally relaxed, realizing that losing these sounds meant losing his spatial awareness.

That was quite terrifying.

Luckily, Yu Yue didn’t pull any more stunts afterward.

An hour later, feeling his body saturated with energy, Su Huan opened his eyes again.

Noon sunlight blazed bright white, looking out through the anti-riot mesh, the reflective railroad tracks showed Liang Kuan driving the hydrogen train backward slowly.

A crew was transporting pipes and metal plates.

Each worker was as red and shiny as a boiled prawn, sweat flying.

He stood, stretched, downed the melted ice water, and walked outside.
