Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 27: Chapter 26: Hard Currency

Gao Zhe halted his steps, turned around, and sized up Su Huan with his cold eyes, ”Reward?”

”The dining car is preparing breakfast. How about a steaming breakfast?” Su Huan said.

Gao Zhe’s mouth twitched, revealing a slightly mocking smile, and he turned to leave.

Su Huan’s tasks were never that easy to complete; expecting him to risk his life for a breakfast.

Did he really think he was a slave?

”There are steaks, pasta, roasted sausages, and if you don’t like those, there are buns, fresh porridge, freshly squeezed soy milk...”

Su Huan spoke from behind as if reciting a menu.

He didn’t even turn his head.

...

Gao Zhe stepped into the muddy water, frowned at the people lying on the ground, and shouted at Su Huan on the vehicle, ”Just need to confirm each of their statuses and then load them into the carriage?”

”Yes, if perfectly captured, there will be a complimentary glass of wine at dinner,” Su Huan replied with a smiling face.

Gao Zhe took a deep breath of the humid air and walked towards the few people on the ground with a steel bar.

On the outermost side was an acquaintance, the burly Brother Dog.

’Useless!’

A hint of gloom flashed in Gao Zhe’s eyes.

The steel bar in his hand was directly aimed at the man’s thigh, hitting with a dull ”bang” sound.

Brother Dog curled up instantly, hands weakly clutching his knees, mouth wide open in a silent scream.

”No threat here.”

Gao Zhe picked up the rope thrown down by Su Huan, wrapped him up like a dead pig, and tossed him into the carriage.

Liang Kuan took over, checked the rope knots all over, and stuffed some rag into the man’s mouth.

Gao Zhe continued hitting them one by one, regardless of whether they were truly unconscious or faking it, as he swung the rod without discretion.

The muffled sounds were mixed with the sound of bones cracking.

As the teeth-grinding sounds drew nearer, the man with slanted eyes lying on the ground cursed inwardly.

He had been contemplating faking unconsciousness for a counterattack, but that damned bastard electrocuted him four times again!

His mind was smoking from the blasts!

If not for possessing incredible physical strength after becoming an Evolver, he would have ended up like the others.

He lay there for quite some time to recover.

This time, he admitted defeat, planning to wait for Su Huan to come and offer surrender, but the other party never showed up, instead, a fierce demon arrived.

They were out to eliminate them all!

The slanted-eyed man dared not stand up; the approaching footsteps were like a death call.

The slanted-eyed man roared, pulling his face out of the mud and lunged at the legs in front of him.

’Such a feeling... a Maker, really a waste.’

Su Huan immediately grasped the slanted-eyed man’s background, feeling a bit of regret in his heart. What he lacked most in his vehicle now were Makers, but unfortunately, this one couldn’t be used.

”Capture this one alive first.”

Upon hearing Su Huan’s voice, Gao Zhe’s hand, which was holding up the steel bar, froze, and he frowned, tensing his muscles before shaking them and opening the other person’s hands.

He kicked the man’s chest.

The other person rolled off like a gourd, sitting there gasping for breath.

Gao Zhe did not catch up, but bent down to pull up his own pant leg, seeing numerous red spots on his skin.

”Don’t worry, it’ll fade in a couple of days, weaker than a skin disease.”

Su Huan’s calm voice came from the carriage.

The generic energy perception allowed him to sense the generic energy fluctuations within an object, but he couldn’t determine the other’s profession, such as Gao Zhe becoming an Evolver, it was clearly visible like a lantern in his eyes.

Nothing could be hidden at all.

Today, it was just fortuitously grasping the other’s evolutionary direction and speed for a mental note.

Should the Shepherd be toppled by the sheep, it would be such entertainment.

”Bang!”

Gao Zhe tied up the slanted-eyed man and threw him into the carriage, ”Remember to deliver meals.”

Then he limped to the carriage from behind.

Su Huan looked down at the shabby slanted-eyed man at his feet, placing a hand on Liang Kuan’s shoulder, keeping him away.

If asked which type of Evolver was the strongest in the apocalypse, each might have their own merits.

But if asked which was the most mysterious, the ”Maker” would definitely be the first choice.

Because of their core skill of ”generic energy erosion,” this group can alter material properties, triggering new changes, and thus were the first to cross the forbidden lines.

The red spots on Gao Zhe’s leg were caused by generic energy erosion, but he was also an Evolver, and specifically, the strongest in physique, Defender, he would endure past it in two days.

However, Liang Kuan was merely an ordinary person, and if eroded by the other party, it would be quite troublesome.

Maybe the first day would just be a red spot, the second day it might grow an eye, and the third day it would start talking.

”...Don’t kill me, I surrender. I still have enough food for half a year at the water plant, clean water, vehicles, a vast amount of gasoline, and women, many women. If you let me go, they’re all yours!”

The slanted-eyed man spat out a mouthful of mud and hurriedly said.

Su Huan seemed not to hear, a layer of red glow emerging on his hands as he rummaged through the man’s waistband and took out a gun, ejected the magazine, eight 9mm bullets inside, glittering bright yellow, extremely beautiful.

This was indeed a treasure, even in the years when various Evolver creatures rampaged.

The unique smokey smell of gunpowder wafted in the air at all times.

Moreover, it’s durable and reliable, far more dependable than those generic-energy-based firearms developed by large companies, making it hard currency in the apocalypse, a good ally for survival.

”Click—”

After a simple inspection, Su Huan chambered the firearm again, waved it in front of the slanted-eyed man’s head twice.

The latter was so terrified his eyes bulged and his lips trembled.

”Don’t, don’t, don’t kill me...”

”Where did you get this?”

Su Huan asked curiously.

”Picked it up from the Law Enforcement Bureau.”

Su Huan turned the gun over, indeed seeing a mark that had been ground off, ”Got more bullets?”

”There are some at the water plant, 60 rounds.”

”Do you have water purifiers at the water plant?”

The slanted-eyed man was stunned for a moment, then quickly nodded and said, ”Yes, yes, both large and small ones.”

Su Huan smiled, it seemed there was no need for tricks.

Pointing to the sixteen people who survived in the carriage, he said, ”I’ll give you a chance to live, choose two of the most loyal people among them, and then I’ll let him go back, have them disassemble a small integrated water purifier and send it over, and you can live.”

The slanted-eyed man’s eyes immediately lit up, ”Sure, I’ll definitely get it done for you.”

”What’s your name?” Su Huan suddenly asked.

”Juan, just call me Xiaohu.” Juan sneered, his eyes smoothing out.

Juan...

A bit of surprise flashed in Su Huan’s eyes. He didn’t expect to bump into someone familiar.

In the previous life, only three convoys escaped from the high-temperature zone, and this Juan was the third-in-command of the Mojiang Mutual Aid Convoy, the largest convoy, congregating thousands of people.

However, he heard the management was chaotic, so he didn’t join.

There weren’t many strong individuals, but the number of Evolvers was generally higher than the other two teams. If labor was lacking, perhaps they could be utilized.

But this lifetime, with him around, whether this convoy could congregate was still uncertain.

Su Huan was genuinely interested in another one, the Joint Convoy of Workers, Farmers, and Medical Staff.
