Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 10: Chapter 9: Bloody Resonance

Su Huan crouched down, pulled out a dagger from his calf, and began cutting the skin of the Bloodhound.

”As long as there’s a chance, it’s enough.”

Qi Xiaobai’s eyes reflected a metallic sheen, and as he raised his palm, the twisted metal doors and windows quickly returned to their original state.

Su Huan looked up, ”Do you have enough energy? If so, seal everything off completely.”

”There shouldn’t be a problem.”

After speaking, all the metal entangling the Bloodhound flew into the air, headed for the window frame, and formed a metal plate that sealed the entire window.

At the moment the window sealed, Su Huan felt enveloped by a sense of security once more, though not as strongly as initially.

Mere 3mm steel plates couldn’t provide him with enough security.

Su Huan stood up, holding something he had extracted from the Bloodhound’s body.

He casually grabbed a bottle of mineral water from the pile of supplies nearby, took a heavy gulp, and then poured the remaining half bottle over the bloody mass in his hand.

The crimson blood got washed away, revealing the true appearance of the object.

It was the heart of the Bloodhound.

Qi Xiaobai watched the heart in his hand thoughtfully.

The two of them went to the dining car, and seeing the scene inside, Qi Xiaobai’s face changed drastically.

”What’s wrong with Sister Xingzi?”

Yu Jing frowned and said, ”She collapsed as soon as we got here, her consciousness is still there, but she looks pale, similar to the symptoms of zombie mutation.”

Qi Xiaobai turned his gaze to Su Huan beside him.

Su Huan crouched down, looking at the weak Xingzi, and said calmly, ”Now there’s a way that can not only heal your injuries but also potentially turn you into an Evolver, granting you powers. The cost is that you might die. Want to try?”

Xingzi stared blankly into Su Huan’s eyes; she still couldn’t see any emotion in them.

Emitting an inexplicable aura of conviction.

Seeing Qi Xiaobai beside him, Xingzi’s reddened eyes lit up with a hint of color, ”How do I do it?”

Su Huan lifted the Bloodhound’s heart in front of her eyes and said seriously, ”Eat it.”

...

The scene inside the dining car was bizarre, a group of people forming a nervous circle, a woman covered in blood resolutely gnawing on the heart in her hand.

There was only the faint sound of gnawing within the car.

The atmosphere became inexplicably eerie.

Su Huan leaned back, sitting on the sofa, watching with interest.

There are generally two ways to become an Evolver.

One is to slowly come into contact with freshly dead zombies, accumulate energy, and then at some critical point, evolve quietly.

The other is much more straightforward, like Xingzi, by devouring the heart of an Evolution Beast raw.

Accumulating the energy within the body to the critical value in one go.

The advantage is its speed.

The disadvantage is that it also accelerates turning into a zombie.

When she had eaten halfway, Xingzi seemed to be less weak, and her gnawing speed increased.

After consuming the last bite, her eyes were covered with a white film, as if a layer of membrane formed, and she collapsed to the ground.

Qi Xiaobai nervously glanced at Su Huan.

Su Huan shrugged, ”It’s out of my hands; it’s up to her now whether she can withstand it.”

After all, Xingzi was picked up for nothing; if she became an Evolver, then he made a profit.

If she died, it wouldn’t be a loss, just an Evolution Beast’s heart, not that important.

Thinking of this, Su Huan instinctively shifted his gaze to Liang Kuan, whose performance during this period had been noted by him.

In Su Huan’s mind, he had already passed the first round.

Already listed as an internal member.

Glancing at the thermometer on the wall, it had already soared to 27°C, he couldn’t help but ponder, this temperature is rising really fast, afraid it might reach 28 or 29 degrees in the hottest part of the afternoon.

”Liang Kuan, go turn on the air conditioning.”

Liang Kuan got up and went to the front of the car, and five minutes later, cool air blew into the VIP dining car.

”So, becoming an Evolver means accumulating enough... energy?” Yu Jing suddenly raised her head, looking at Su Huan, with a hint of verification in her eyes.

”Snap!”

Su Huan snapped his fingers, ”Correct.”

”After absorbing energy, it promotes biological evolution, whether it’s plants, or cats and dogs, they can evolve, just like the Evolution Beast—the Bloodhound we just saw.”

”And the result of failed evolution, as you’ve seen, is turning into zombies with infectious capabilities.”

But zombies can also evolve.

In the past, there was a saying that those who turned into zombies were just participating in a resurrection match for evolution.

Such seemingly true but false rumors he had heard too many, no need to explain them to them.

”Therefore, zombies and Evolution Beasts have a large amount of energy in their bodies, and with frequent contact, some people can activate powers and gain strong abilities; but remember, it’s only ’some people’, more are infected and turned into new zombies.” Su Huan explained seriously.

Qi Xiaobai also listened attentively, although he was an Evolver, his understanding of the apocalypse, energy, and Evolvers wasn’t as profound as Su Huan’s.

Just from the few words spoken earlier, everyone could tell, Su Huan presented a complete logical conceptual system.

And not just mere speculation.

Yu Jing did not ask how Su Huan obtained this information, her beautiful eyes glancing at Xingzi.

She listened carefully.

Long-term, frequent...

There isn’t a word here that aligns with the method Xingzi used just now.

”The way she quickly devours energy is called—Bloody Resonance.”

Perhaps noticing her doubt, Su Huan explained slowly.

”Oh.”

Yu Jing responded indifferently.

Su Huan felt slightly uncomfortable, raising his head in surprise, only to see Yu Jing staring at him with an analytical, bizarre gaze.

Unlike a woman looking at a man, more like a researcher who found an interesting... subject.

...

”Huh...”

After ten minutes had passed, Xingzi suddenly sat up from the ground, startling everyone, Liang Kuan instinctively stood up to grab an axe.

Only Su Huan, seeing the non-reflective film in Xingzi’s eyes, showed a smile on his face.

He walked up to her, squatted down, and extended his palm.

”Welcome to the Armed Train.”

Xingzi fixed her gaze on Su Huan for a moment before reaching out her hand, squeezing out two words with difficulty from her throat.

”Thank you.”

”If you feel dizzy, you can try disabling your visual analysis, carefully think back, you should have this information in your memory.”

Su Huan advised.

”Seems... like it?”

The non-reflective film in Xingzi’s eyes gradually vanished, reflecting Su Huan’s appearance.

Su Huan snapped his fingers, the corners of his mouth lifting, ”Correct, you’ve entered the world of the Evolvers now. By the way, what’s your full name?”

”Wan Xing, like the apricot in Spring and Rain.”

”Su Huan, rejuvenated, reborn, you can also call me the Conductor, Boss, Head, Brother Su, Su Huan... it doesn’t matter what you call me, but understand this: as long as you’re on this train, you have to listen to me. I’ll only say this once.”

Though Su Huan’s tone was calm, it carried an undeniable chill.
