Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 18: Chapter 17: Midnight Corpse Tide

Su Huan called out to Yu Yue and casually picked up a box meal to open it.

The potatoes were diced into large chunks, combined with a small amount of diced carrots and shredded beef, simmered until tender, covering the rice and releasing a mouthwatering aroma.

There were some pickled radishes on the side.

”Is it all potato stewed with beef?”

Su Huan asked.

”There aren’t many vegetables left, and we need a lot of quantity, so I made an easy dish,” Yu Yue said nervously and added after a pause, ”I didn’t put too much beef, just chopped it up to make it look like there was more.”

Su Huan naturally wouldn’t be so petty, and he said lightly, ”It’s fine, those doing physical work need to eat well to give their best effort. I’ll go with you.”

Passing the No. 6 storage carriage, Su Huan lifted five boxes of mineral water and walked with her towards the back.

Although the consumption is huge, it’s only temporary.

As long as they don’t work, this group of workers will still have to find resources, and they’ll have to return three bottles of water for every one they drink, always profitable.

The carriage was dim, and only the sound of the dining cart wheels could be heard.

”By the way, is the door locked or melted?”

Su Huan casually asked.

Yu Yue weakly said, ”Made a slight modification, as long as we don’t open the door from our side, the other side can’t open it.”

Su Huan looked up and his eyelid twitched.

This group of guys really have some ideas. The originally simple door lock was modified to be external, with three horizontal metal bolts, looking like the door of some vault.

Apart from the locking mechanism, even the door’s strength was significantly enhanced, at least it wouldn’t be shattered in one hit by a bloodhound.

Yu Yue sequentially unlocked three visible locks and one hidden lock before entering the middle corridor of the carriage.

Seeing Su Huan and the other, the workers on the opposite side quickly opened the door.

A heavy, foul smell rushed to their faces.

Su Huan’s expression was composed, Wang He maintained his usual outfit but was as if he had been fished out of water, hair soaked with sweat that occasionally dripped down.

He greeted with a bitter smile, ”The carriage in the back is too hot, can’t we turn on the air conditioning?”

”The air conditioning is a resource too, turning it on requires additional resources.”

”The outside temperature is twenty-eight, twenty-nine degrees, so many people are crammed in the carriage, and we don’t dare open the windows, it will be lethal.”

”Don’t worry, the temperature at night will be lower, no more than twenty-six degrees, no one will die from this.”

Su Huan calmly said.

Wang He was stupefied for a while, then could only sigh and went to get the food, his mood significantly improved upon seeing the fragrant potato and beef over rice.

He called those behind him to come receive the meals.

Once the water and food were distributed, Su Huan and the other left.

...

Deep inside the No.9 carriage.

Gao Zhe looked at the jostling heads in front of him, his gaze deep.

Before long, a scar-faced man came over, exclaiming, ”That Su guy actually came to deliver food to the worker group, potato and beef over rice, damn! Hot meals, it’s been so long since I’ve had it, makes me want to snatch it.”

Gao Zhe took small bites of his compressed biscuits, his tone calm, ”This is just a tactic to divide us. They have 120 people, what do you have to snatch it with?”

The scar-faced man grumbled under his breath, ”Damn, those workers pushed a lot of our people to the back.”

Gao Zhe was unmoved.

”How did you fare today?” A low, gentle voice came from across Gao Zhe.

Gao Zhe looked up at the man across from him, his eyebrows slightly graying, but his eyes were pitch black and intimidating.

”Luck was bad, ended up in a crowd of zombies, got hurt a bit escaping.”

”Were you seen?”

Gao Zhe hesitated for a moment, ”I’m not sure, but he did remember me.”

”Then you were discovered.”

The old man heavily tapped his fingertips on the small table, emitting a dull ”thud”, ”Always prepare for the worst, assume he discovered you and get ready.”

”His ability is too bizarre, using his finger is just a decoy, every part of his body can release high-temperature energy bombs...”

”You’re scared?”

”I just need an opportunity.”

”Opportunities are never to be waited for.”

”Don’t rush me, I’ll take action naturally.”

Gao Zhe finished the last bite of the biscuit, casually grabbed a hoodie, using it as a pillow behind his head, closed his eyes to rest.

...

Su Huan did not rest; he always felt uneasy.

Maybe it’s because of today’s Corpse Pupa news.

Usually, he would’ve run away already.

But today’s completion of a quarter of the armored steel plates gave him a lot of confidence, planning to stay here to gather more steel plates tomorrow.

Today, only more than seven hundred were collected, with a shortfall of over two thousand more.

It would be tough to get that many standard steel plates elsewhere.

Suddenly, his heart inexplicably rose with some anxiety.

Su Huan instinctively glanced at the seventh carriage.

With a light step, he silently arrived at the door, lifting the curtain, to see a group of people sprawled on chairs and the ground, snoring, nothing unusual.

’Maybe every carriage should have an iron gate installed.’

Su Huan thought silently.

But the alert in his heart did not diminish, instead growing stronger.

Soon, he pinpointed the reason, stemming from his skill—”Universal Sense”.

The last time he supernaturally spotted the bloodhound, it was because he sensed the universal energy, then his body instinctively sent out a warning!

With a heavy heart, Su Huan moved to the window, lifting a corner of the curtain to look outside.

His dark pupils suddenly contracted.

Zombie horde!

Dammit, and it’s a big zombie horde!

Countless zombies crowded outside the fence next to the railway, stacked on top of each other, forming a second barrier, with zombies occasionally falling from the top.

Wobbling towards the train.

Su Huan let down the curtain and quickly ran to the train head, shouting lowly, ”Turn off all the lights, Liang Kuan, start the train!”

Without waiting for further reminders, everyone had already noticed the scene, tense and ready for battle.

Busy as he was, Liang Kuan didn’t hesitate for a moment, dropping what he was doing and sprinting over.

As the lights went out, the entire train was plunged into darkness.

Everyone rushed to the train head, watching as Liang Kuan completed each step to start the train, feeling the heavy roar of the train engine, everyone finally relaxed a bit.

Su Huan stood by the window, looking down at the surging zombies below, his expression dark.

”Boom——”

The train gradually started moving but seemed to be met with enormous resistance, with sounds of slapping, scratching, and popping like bubble wrap.

”Too many zombies at the front, can’t pick up speed.”

Liang Kuan said in a deep voice.

A cold gleam flashed in Su Huan’s eyes, ”Xiaoba, seal off the door of carriage No. 7, everyone else stay at the train head.”

Qi Xiaobai’s gaze was firm, ”Okay, no one can sneak over amidst the chaos.”

”Mm.”

Su Huan sat in the co-pilot seat, his hand resting on the control panel.

Taking a deep breath.

Surging universal energy was continuously converted into electricity, forcibly injected into the train engine!

The originally dull-sounding engine seemed to take a giant gulp of air.

Revving up with roaring whirs, it brought a slight trembling to the train head, shrieking as it moved forward.

In the darkness of the night, a steel dragon wriggled forward with all its might!

Trying to break free from the bog of the zombie horde!
