Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 32: Chapter 31: ”Every Damn Teammate Has One

The scarlet droplets were like flowing pomegranate juice, reflecting the boy’s serious eyes beneath his tousled hair.

”Remember, once the synthesis is complete, you must enclose it within the bullet head as quickly as possible; if we’re slow, we’ll all die.”

Su Huan instructed while holding a brass 9mm bullet.

Qi Xiaobai gripped the handrail tightly with both hands and nodded, ”I’m ready.”

Su Huan gave Wan Xing a glance.

The latter took a deep breath and poured the juice extracted from the Bloodthirsty Fruit into the glass bottle, a special genetic liquid collected from consuming a dozen zombies.

Similar to the materials collected from the Night Demon.

But because the amount from each zombie is extremely scarce, it’s easy to overlook.

If Su Huan hadn’t emphasized it, she wouldn’t have put this thing together.

The two liquids converged in the glass bottle.

”Hiss...”

The scarlet liquid instantly changed color, with a spot of pitch black rapidly expanding as if polluted.

”Did it succeed?”

Wan Xing felt something was odd; the liquid in the glass bottle held a strong attraction for her.

It was as if swallowing it would grant her some form of evolution.

”Of course, it failed.”

Su Huan pinched his little finger, looking at the glass bottle, his expression revealing a hint of fear.

Synthesizing a genetic agent is not as simple as combining several materials.

It requires a profession related to agents for control.

Fine-tune its proportions, the time of fusion, and subtle changes in its physical properties.

Otherwise, what appears in front of us is the result.

—Failure.

The cost of failure can vary, but some failed products still have some special effects.

Like this drop of black, viscous liquid akin to crude oil.

Its full name is ”Evolution Beast Inducer,” due to its strong evolution deception properties, it’s very useful when clearing or attracting Evolution Beasts.

But like many inventions, people don’t use it in good ways.

”Flesh Party Invitation” ”Dinner Bell” ”Evolution Beast Quick Summon” ”Doomsday Happy Water” ”Each of my damn teammates has one”...

Soon, this simple agent became widespread, and almost everyone who could explore or scavenge had one.

When everyone has it, it forms a kind of nuclear deterrent effect.

Only by holding this, one wouldn’t worry about teammates screwing you over at critical moments.

”Tighten it, pour it out in three seconds, Xiaobai, get ready.”

Su Huan tensely reminded.

Qi Xiaobai’s eyes flashed with a metallic cold light, and the brass bullet on the table suddenly floated in mid-air, with the bullet head detaching from the case and melting like ice cream, creating a narrow space inside the bullet head.

Wan Xing timely dropped the pitch black liquid in her hand.

As the liquid circled at the bottle’s mouth, the genetic instinct’s attraction peaked.

”Snap!”

The liquid dropped, the brass bullet head quickly closed, was inserted back into the bullet, and fell into Su Huan’s palm.

The strange sense of attraction vanished instantly.

Looking at the brand new bullet in his hand, Su Huan wore a faint smile, ”It’s done.”

Dull footsteps came from the diner car, Liang Kuan questioned in confusion, ”I just felt something strange.”

Su Huan stood up and patted his shoulder, which had grown more robust, ”You felt right, but it’s too late now. Get ready, in ten minutes we’ll move, but don’t enter Mojiang City directly, stop at the outskirts.”

”Are we setting off?”

”No.”

Su Huan licked his palate, his eyes shining coldly, ”Call Wang He to get ready later, bring twenty people, we’ll retrieve the forklift and water purifier tonight!”

...

19:20, stifling and windless.

Clouds heavy with oil-like heaviness pressed on the horizon, the distant silhouette of a water tower glimmered with iron-gray under dusk.

Further away lay the calm Mojiang, clearly, the temperature of over thirty degrees didn’t cause noticeable changes to the great river.

It still quietly nourished the lands on both sides, just as before the apocalypse.

Yet this river is the most dangerous place in the whole area aside from the city center.

Even in Su Huan’s mind, the depths of the river are even more terrifying than the city center, densely packed Evolution Beasts engaging in frenzied battles at the murky riverbed, devouring and evolving; no one knows to what extent they’ve evolved or how many terrifying entities there are.

The unknowns among them are numerous.

So even after four years of apocalypse, no one dares to approach these water resources.

”Tap...tap...”

Su Huan tapped the thick steel plate beneath his feet, refocusing his thoughts.

Although there’s no intention to build a combat platform for now, the vehicle roof was intentionally made flatter, making future additions of a layer, a passage connecting the rear compartment, or adding mechanical arms and machine guns more convenient.

He raised his wrist and looked at the mechanical watch.

19:24

There was about a minute left.

Su Huan took out a seized handgun, ejected the cartridge, inspected, and loaded it again.

He fired a shot toward the ground, hearing the familiar crisp sound. After ensuring no issues, he loaded the special bullet into the magazine.

The train beneath him sent a slight vibration.

Su Huan raised his handgun, tilted it at forty-five degrees towards the sky above the water plant, and pulled the trigger.

”Bang”

The bullet with an initial speed of 400 exited the barrel, losing its momentum at the peak point, and then began to fall downward.

And its landing point, the limit of its range.

Was precisely the water plant a kilometer away.

...

The quiet suburban suddenly was filled with countless heavy breaths, intimidating growls echoing.

Suddenly, the calm surface of the river swirled with whirlpools, patches of dark red turbid blood waters emerged, and the eerie sounds of scales scraping surged below the water.

The wild grass by the river bowed down, the rustling sound converging into a torrent.

And this torrent was directed precisely at the water plant by the shore.

At this moment, Gao Zhe was in a room, chewing on instant noodles, the crunching sound coarse and piercing.

Beside him lay a male with a shattered skull, the last man in the entire water plant.

He spent the whole afternoon doing something meaningless.

He killed everyone in the water plant.

Except for the women.

They committed suicide.

He killed forty-four people, and by the end, he had become numb.

He couldn’t even tell if it was out of anger or remaining compassion; he merely habitually crushed their skulls.

Suddenly, the chewing stopped.

Gao Zhe felt an immense pressure surrounding him, an instinctive fear that gripped his heart like a giant hand.

He tossed aside the half-pack of instant noodles, stroking the shivering hair on his neck, grabbed a steel rod, and went to the window.

Cautiously peering outside.

The sky was darkened, but in the dim light, he could still make out the buildings outside.

Yet, inexplicably, he felt as if every shadow harbored a terrifying existence staring at him!
