The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1730: Chapter 1730: Yuan Gui Lends a Hand

As soon as Uncle Meng awoke, he urgently instructed Meng Qi to find Meng Pei. Shu Yu speculated it might be related to his capture.

Previously, although Uncle Meng had awakened twice, both times were short-lived. He just opened his eyes, said a few words, and knew he was safe. His mind might not have fully reacted.

Now fully awake, he probably recalled the incidents and reasons related to the black market.

Shu Yu didn’t know the details of the situation, so she didn’t say much and let Meng Qi hurry back.

”When you return, tell Uncle Meng that there are over twenty more soldiers at the city gate.”

Meng Qi nodded quickly, ”Alright, I understand.”

Meng Qi left, and Shu Yu looked with slight frustration at the two large baskets on the stove.

Originally, she wanted Meng Qi to help carry them together. Although she could manage herself, two large baskets were too much for a girl to handle, especially when she was unfamiliar with the county town and might encounter patrolling soldiers.

Unfortunately, the Meng family escort agency and the county magistrate’s private residence were in completely opposite directions; otherwise, they could have gone together.

Shu Yu considered whether she should change back into men’s clothing to look less conspicuous.

It was at this moment that Yuan Gui entered. He said to Shu Yu, ”Lady Lu, I saw Meng Qi just now leaving in a hurry. I heard from Granny Fang that you want to take this food back to the Meng family escort agency? I can help you deliver it.”

Seeing him, Shu Yu suddenly thought of Granny Fang’s hesitant words.

Just in time, she also had something she wanted to ask him.

But...

”You’re still carrying injuries.”

”It doesn’t matter, Doctor Mi said I’m recovering well. Besides, it’s not far from here to the escort agency.” He walked to the table, tried lifting a basket, ”It’s not too heavy, let’s go, we’ll be back in a moment.”

Seeing that he indeed seemed fine, Shu Yu didn’t refuse.

However, she gave him the lighter basket, and the two of them didn’t delay further. After informing Doctor Mi and the others, they left.

Yuan Gui was originally supposed to lead the way, but unexpectedly, as soon as they exited, Shu Yu headed in the opposite direction.

He was stunned for a moment, then quickly followed and quietly asked, ”Lady Lu, aren’t you going to the escort agency?”

”Hmm, not going to the escort agency. Just follow me in a while.” She had previously learned the location of the county magistrate’s private residence from Meng Qi, and it wasn’t hard to find.

Yuan Gui felt puzzled but nodded in the end and followed her.

They hadn’t walked far when Shu Yu brought up the topic of Granny Fang.

”... I heard from Granny Fang that she is also from Dongan Province, having fled from disasters. What about her family? Did they all... perish on the way?”

Yuan Gui didn’t expect her to bring up Granny Fang, but he didn’t know much either, ”Granny Fang seems to have no family. She lives alone in the village. I heard from the villagers that she had no children, but she did have a husband. However, from what Granny Fang implies, her husband passed away early.”

Passed away early?

”That’s all I know. I’ve asked Granny Fang, but she doesn’t seem willing to say more. The villagers say Granny Fang came alone over twenty years ago, initially renting a house, and later settled in the village.”

That’s all Yuan Gui knew, and if Shu Yu wanted to understand more, she’d either have to ask in the village or from Granny Fang.

Shu Yu pursed her lips, wanting to inquire further, but as soon as she opened her mouth, a commotion suddenly erupted from the street ahead.
