Having arranged the labor, Meng Yunzheng looked again at the group of girls.

These people naturally couldn’t accompany them to confront the soldiers of Chenggu County, nor could they be easily arranged once they exited the secret passage.

So he sought Xia Yi’s opinion and finally said, ”In the black market, there are still many captured rebels. We can’t kill them all, and once the incident is resolved, they must be handed over to the imperial court for disposal. Therefore, we must trouble you ladies to guard these rebels here.”

Upon hearing this, the girls breathed a sigh of relief.

Like those laborers, they wanted to make a contribution. For these girls accustomed to surviving in the darkness, being useful was the only way to have meaning.

By having something to do, it assured them that they wouldn’t be abandoned without reason later on.

Thus, the girls quickly guaranteed, ”Don’t worry, we’ll make sure to watch these people closely and absolutely won’t let them escape.”

Soon after, they discussed briefly and swiftly came up with a plan.

They moved all the rebels who were originally in the infirmary to the prison cell here and directly locked them in. Then they chained the doors and handed the key directly to Xia Yi.

Qiao Rou said, ”This way, even if these rebels try to sweet-talk us into releasing them, we wouldn’t be able to do so.”

First, there were no keys, and secondly, they had no weapons. Although there was an armory in the black market, the girls had no way of accessing it.

The number of rebels in the prison wasn’t small, besides the thirty or so caught earlier, some were also bitten by wild beasts. In total, there were more than fifty of them.

If these people tried to take advantage of Meng Yunzheng and his team’s departure to cause trouble, coaxing or threatening the girls into releasing them was indeed very possible.

Qiao Rou and the others, recognizing their limited abilities, decided it was better to cut off the escape routes as a precaution.

Xia Yi agreed, ”Indeed.”

Qiao Rou and the others exhaled slowly, feeling somewhat relieved.

However, what Xia Yi didn’t mention was that even if the escape route wasn’t cut off, it wouldn’t matter. Earlier in the infirmary, Meng Yunzheng had given each of them a drug.

To prove its effect, a particularly loyal troublemaker from the black market was used as an example to warn the others. All the rebels witnessed the consequences of consuming the poison, and in fear for their lives, none would dare act rashly.

After arranging all this, Meng Yunzheng noted the time was not early and prepared to leave.

Besides the laborers and those girls, some of Lu Wu’s subordinates also stayed in the black market. Their mobility issues made staying more suitable for them.

The laborers and the girls came to see them off. Just before departure, still somewhat worried, the head laborer tentatively asked, ”Lord, you will come back to take us away, won’t you?”

Xia Yi nodded, ”Of course, you’re all victims. Once the rebellion is quashed, the authorities will properly settle you. At that time, you will also receive some compensation, rest assured.”

Upon hearing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Although they knew the future was still uncertain and life wouldn’t be as peaceful and serene as before even if they left the black market, there was still hope and other choices to be had.

Xia Yi’s assurance gave them peace of mind.

Meng Yunzheng waved his hand, ”Let’s go.”

The group had quite a few people, totaling around fifty.

With grandeur, they quickly entered the entrance of the secret passage, heading towards Chenggu County.
