The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1729: Chapter 1729: Does Granny Fang Have a Secret?

Shu Yu smiled, added water, and kneaded the dough in one go, ”I know how to make quite a few things. If there’s a chance in the future, I’ll make some authentic dishes from Dongan Province for the elderly.”

Granny Fang was taken aback, then spoke with a flattered tone, ”No need, no need. I’m old and can’t eat much good food. Just a couple of spoonfuls of porridge fill me up.”

Shu Yu lifted the pot lid, saw that the water was boiling, and placed the steamer filled with buns on top, covering it with the lid.

Then she started making pancakes while pretending to casually ask, ”No need to be polite, Granny. By the way, you mentioned that your hometown was in Dongan Province. Which county town exactly? Is there anyone left back home? I’ve been to several county towns.”

However, after hearing this, Granny Fang’s previously smiling expression stiffened for a moment.

She forced a smile, ”No, no one.”

No one??

Shu Yu wanted to ask more, but Granny Fang quickly changed the subject, ”Lady Lu, how many pancakes are you planning to make? The filling doesn’t seem enough. I’ll go to the yard to cut a couple more cabbages.”

With that, Granny Fang hurriedly left.

Her retreating figure looked somewhat like a defeated escape. Shu Yu paused her motion, looking at her back disappearing outside the courtyard, and slowly frowned.

Granny Fang seemed unwilling to talk about her family matters; she was clearly avoiding it.

Indeed, later when Granny Fang came back, Shu Yu tried to change the topic and asked about the flood back in the day, and she diverted the topic again.

After two attempts, Shu Yu didn’t push further.

Since the other party didn’t want to mention it, pursuing the question seemed a bit strange.

If Granny Fang was unwilling to speak, she thought about asking Yuan Gui later.

The two large baskets of buns and pancakes were just finished when Meng Qi and Doctor Mi had already set up the dining table outside, calling them to come out and eat together.

When Shu Yu arrived in the flower hall, she saw Yuan Gui bending over to set the chairs.

She was slightly surprised, ”How are your injuries?”

Yuan Gui straightened up, patted his wrist, and smiled, ”I’m fine now.”

Doctor Mi, slurping porridge on the side, said, ”He only had surface injuries, nothing vital was harmed, just looked a bit shocking. The main issue was blood loss, and he hadn’t eaten in two days, so he looked pale and lost consciousness. But the medicine you used yesterday was top-notch, very effective. After resting for a day and a night, he’s bouncing back to life. His self-healing ability is quite strong too.”

Yuan Gui chuckled, remembering that the last time due to Jiang Kuanyu’s incident, his injuries were much more severe than now. This time he was just cut a few times, so it felt like nothing.

Shu Yu nodded, ”That’s good.”

Only then did they sit down for breakfast. Unexpectedly, halfway through the meal, Uncle Meng woke up.

Meng Qi quickly brought in a bowl of warm porridge, as Uncle Meng hadn’t eaten anything for a long time, and in his current condition, he could only have liquid food.

Fortunately, he was fine. Doctor Mi said he just needed proper nurturing later on.

After finishing her meal, Shu Yu planned to take buns and pancakes to Xia Yi and the others. Just as she packed all the food, Meng Qi came back with his half-eaten bowl, but his expression was somewhat serious as he told Shu Yu, ”Sister Shuyu, I have to go back for a bit.”

Shu Yu was taken aback, ”Go back? To the Meng family escort agency?”

Meng Qi nodded, ”Yes, my father wants me to go back and tell Eldest Uncle something.”
