The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1696: Chapter 1696: Steward Guo, Long Time No See

Xia Yi struck her opponent’s wrist with a hairpin, breaking the sword in his hand.

Then she swiftly kicked him over, picked up the sword from the ground, and lunged forward.

The opponent tried to block, but he was already at a disadvantage.

Xia Yi was a Hidden Guard by the Emperor’s side, and her opponent was merely one of the black market’s fifth steward’s subordinates. No matter how skilled he was, he could never be a match for Xia Yi. Within a few moves, she had pierced his chest with her sword.

On the other side, Meng Yunzheng had also taken down one person. Seeing the situation turn bad, another, slightly injured, tried to escape to the side.

Meng Yunzheng kicked him back and said to Xia Yi, ”I’ll leave him to you; I’m going after Fifth Guo.”

”Alright.”

Meng Yunzheng ran quickly towards the door, stabbing two mountain bandits who were trying to open an iron cage to release the beasts inside as he passed.

Fifth Guo turned around, his face changing dramatically. He had initially thought those men could buy some time, and releasing the beasts might at least give them some assistance. Unexpectedly, Xia Yi and this man’s skills were so excellent that they quickly dispatched several subordinates.

To make matters worse, those bandits who were supposed to open the iron cage were so nervous that they couldn’t even undo the lock.

Fifth Guo had reached the door and was about to open it, only to find it tightly wrapped with chains.

He was shocked, and the wind from a sword was already pressing against his back.

Fifth Guo, relying on instinct, dodged to the left, narrowly avoiding Meng Yunzheng’s sword, but his arm was still injured.

Fifth Guo rolled awkwardly on the ground, looked up at the tall figure before him, and nervously asked, ”Who are you, barging into the black market like this?”

Meng Yunzheng walked over to him and said with a smile, ”Steward Guo, are you so busy you’ve forgotten me?”

Fifth Guo was stunned. He had felt a sense of familiarity before, and hearing the voice now, he exclaimed in shock, ”You’re, you’re Meng Yunzheng?”

”It’s me. Long time no see.”

Meng Yunzheng had not expected Steward Guo to be an old acquaintance; he was the steward at the Jiangyuan County black market before.

Last year, Meng Yunzheng had sought him out to buy that estate, but Steward Guo kept dodging, eventually selling the estate and the hill to Old Master Miao.

Over a year later, who would’ve thought he would become Fifth Guo of the Changjin Prefecture black market?

Fifth Guo was astonished, carefully taking two steps back, and said with a dry laugh, ”So it’s Young Master Meng, but we have no enmity. Why get involved in such a mess here?”

”I didn’t want to either, but Jiang Kuanyu captured my uncle, so I had no choice but to come rescue him.”

Fifth Guo exclaimed, ”He captured your uncle?”

He knew Jiang Kuanyu had captured someone, but since they weren’t from his division, he hadn’t paid much attention. Amidst the beast chaos, everyone around Jiang Kuanyu perished. He ran to Fifth Guo and suggested that the person they’d captured was targeting him, but he hadn’t mentioned it was Meng Yunzheng’s uncle.

If he’d known, Fifth Guo would never have agreed.

Meng Yunzheng was someone even his superiors dealt with cautiously. Before the grand plan was accomplished, contact with him was avoided unless necessary. Who would’ve thought Jiang Kuanyu would provoke someone from the Meng family?

Damned fool, it seemed he was trying to shift all the blame onto him, yet he wasn’t being wronged at all.

Fifth Guo’s eyes darted around, and he immediately said with a dry laugh, ”There might be some misunderstanding here. I didn’t know about this; I’ll have someone release your uncle right away.”
