The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1676: Chapter 1676: Returned Empty-Handed

Shu Yu didn’t know that the mountain bandit had thought of many things with twists and turns in his mind. After Xia Yi left, she couldn’t help but look back at Jiang Kuanyu.

She saw his figure disappear around the corner.

The direction... seemed to be where the prison was located.

What was Jiang Kuanyu doing going to the prison? Shu Yu couldn’t help but feel lucky that they left early, otherwise, in such a narrow place like the prison, if they had run into each other, greetings would have been inevitable.

Jiang Kuanyu is a meticulous person; he might have exposed them.

She breathed a sigh of relief, retracted her gaze, and continued to follow the mountain bandit further inside.

Now that Jiang Kuanyu wasn’t around, it was just convenient for them to go to his residence.

There weren’t many people in the black market. The mountain bandit led them up one floor, spoke a few words with the person guarding the stairway, and then took them straight inside.

This floor was completely different from the one below; it was much quieter and cleaner. Each room was elegantly and luxuriously decorated, and some clearly looked like private boxes.

After they walked around and reached the innermost room, the mountain bandit finally stopped and lowered his voice to say to them, ”These two rooms inside are where Jiang Kuanyu usually conducts his affairs and rests. Fortunately, you’re looking for him. Young Master Jiang hasn’t been in the black market long; his room is on the second floor. If it were another steward, you’d have to go up one more floor, and there are more guards up there, even I can’t go up.”

Most of the second floor was made up of private boxes intended for entertaining distinguished guests, while a few rooms were offices for the stewards.

So, in this current understaffed situation, apart from the guards at the stairway and at some corners, the others were sparsely populated.

Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng exchanged a glance, looking at the room ahead of them.

The mountain bandit said, ”I just inquired, there’s no one inside, Jiang Kuanyu has taken all the men with him. I’ll keep watch for you outside, you head in yourselves.”

He admonished them uneasily, ”You better hurry up. If you find the people, bring them out quickly and give me the antidote.”

”Alright, you stay here and keep watch.”

Meng Yunzheng looked around, saw no one watching them, and silently slipped into the room with Shu Yu.

The room was very large, complete with tables, chairs, and stools, and behind the screen, there was a bed for resting.

The two of them walked around, not daring to touch anything, fearing that Jiang Kuanyu would return and notice something amiss. Their immediate priority was to find Uncle Meng and Meng Pei and bring them out.

However, there was no one in the room, no hidden doors or anything like that, and not even a disordered area.

They left empty-handed.

The two of them didn’t dare to linger, and without finding anyone, they exited swiftly and cleanly.

Seeing only the two of them come out, the mountain bandit was a bit disappointed, ”Not inside?”

”No, no one inside.”

The mountain bandit frowned, ”Not here, and not in the prison, then where will they be?”

”When you catch someone, do you usually lock them directly in the prison?”

The mountain bandit thought for a moment and shook his head, ”Not necessarily, whoever captures the person is responsible for the interrogation. Only after the interrogation do they decide how to deal with them. If they’re not useful, they’re thrown in the prison, sent to the dueling platform later. Young Master Jiang caught your uncle, but no one was seen in the prison, either they didn’t get anything out of him, or he’s already dead...”

Seeing Meng Yunzheng’s cold gaze sweep over him, he couldn’t help but step back, ”You asked me, and this is the truth.”

He thought the other person was probably dead, after all, no one was seen at the prison, and no one here with Young Master Jiang, right?
