The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1659: Chapter 1659: The Lonely Granny

Yuan Gui himself didn’t know how long he had drifted. Anyway, when he woke up, he saw an old woman trying to pull the bamboo raft ashore.

A big rock blocked the bamboo raft at the front, which gave the old woman time.

”Granny is old, luckily still has some strength. It was just dawn, and there were no people nearby. Granny couldn’t find anyone, so she had to painstakingly get me ashore, and later dragged me home with a cart.”

Granny had no children and lived alone.

She found a village physician for Yuan Gui. That physician’s medical skill was pretty good; at least the wounds on Yuan Gui’s body were treated beautifully.

But his injuries needed an explanation. Yuan Gui explained that he was a hunter from the mountains. While hunting, he encountered another hunter about to shoot a rabbit. The rabbit wasn’t hit, but he got hit instead.

Then he rolled down the slope, breaking several bones in his body.

As for that hunter who shot the arrow, it was unclear whether he didn’t see him or ran away out of fear. When Yuan Gui woke up, only a similarly injured wolf was biting him.

After chasing away the wolf, Yuan Gui hurriedly crawled to the riverside onto a wooden raft and drifted along the river.

According to Yuan Gui’s injuries, all these explanations made sense. Indeed, there was an arrow wound on his body, luckily just an ordinary hunter’s arrow. The injury on his arm was indeed from a wolf bite, and coupled with his disheveled appearance and tattered clothes, it matched perfectly with someone who had rolled down a hillside.

In the following days, Yuan Gui recovered from his injuries at Granny’s home.

His injuries were too severe, and he didn’t know where Jiang Kuanyu was or what he wanted to do. Instinctively feeling that person was no good, possibly planning something big, Yuan Gui dared not go into the town for fear of encountering him and so could only hide in the small village to recover first.

Granny treated him very well, and even though the house seemed poor, she tried her best to give him good food.

Yuan Gui had a little money left, which he gave entirely to Granny, and she used it all to buy medicine.

It took him half a year to heal.

It wasn’t until this March that he could start wielding weapons again.

Shu Yu was curious, ”Since you’ve healed, why didn’t you return to Dongan Province?”

Yuan Gui was silent for a long time before smiling bitterly, ”First, I don’t have a travel permit. When I went out to escort, it was all managed by the Head Escort.”

Of course, he could also have someone send a letter back.

But...

”Secondly, I’ve been an orphan since childhood. Although I later apprenticed to learn skills, my master was strict, with many disciples, and passed away early. In my life, I’ve never felt the warmth of having a family. Granny treated me very well, saved me, and treated me like her own child, so I was reluctant to leave. Granny happened to be alone, and I thought it would be good to keep her company.”

Of course, there’s another reason: he feared that if he returned, Jiang Kuanyu would find out, and Jiang Kuanyu would definitely not let him go.

So Yuan Gui stayed.

Yuan Gui was strong and healthy. With him around, Granny didn’t have to worry about physically demanding tasks like chopping wood and fetching water. He grew up alone, so life skills like cooking and washing clothes weren’t a problem.

When he was seriously injured, Granny looked after him. Now that he recovered, he could handle all the chores by himself.

The only thing was, Yuan Gui almost never left the village or went to the county town.

He could go into the mountains to hunt, forage for mushrooms, chop firewood, weave baskets, and then have someone take them to town for sale.

Life wasn’t a problem at all.
