The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1692: Chapter 1692: I’m On Your Side

The mountain bandit suddenly fell to his knees with a thud before Shu Yu finished speaking, kowtowing three times to her, each resounding solidly.

Shu Yu, ”...”

When the bandit lifted his face, it was drenched in tears and snot, his expression miserably pitiful.

”Miss, please spare me, don’t kill me. Boohoo, I, I’ve never killed anyone. Really, although I’ve been working here, all I’ve done is run my mouth a bit, gossiping, and maybe having a malicious thought or two, but I’ve never actually harmed anyone. I’ve never done evil, I’m still innocent. Miss, consider it as a favor for my kindness and let me go. I’ve helped you out on the way here, even if there’s no merit, there is hard work, right? In the future, I’ll definitely follow your orders; if you tell me to go east, I won’t dare go west. I’ll serve you devotedly, give me the antidote, and just think of me as a fart, and let me go.”

Shu Yu, ”... you really are a turncoat.”

”Yes, yes, yes, I’m just a blade of grass, really flexible. Besides, my heart has always been on your side, I never agreed with the black market’s brutal ways. They went to Guxian to do bad things, I didn’t follow them, and now they’ve gone to the neighboring county, I found an excuse to stay behind. I didn’t take part in any of the things they did, I was just the gatekeeper at the mansion. I’m innocent.”

Shu Yu’s mouth twitched; claiming innocence might be taking himself too seriously.

Watching him bawling his eyes out was nauseating, ”Okay, okay, just stop crying for now. Whether you’ve killed or done evil will be judged by others. For now, just guide us properly, and we’ll give you the antidote.”

As for what happens to him later, that wasn’t something they could control.

The people from the black market would eventually be captured and interrogated, with decisions about how long they would be jailed, whether they’d be exiled or given hard labor, or even beheaded, left to the authorities.

Given his help along the way, they wouldn’t poison him to death.

The bandit wiped a tear and sniffed, his voice choked with a hint of hope, ”You’re not lying to me?”

”Why would I lie to you?”

The bandit figured that was true, after all, they were already in the black market and had caused enough chaos. Xia Yi knew this place even better than he did, so his usefulness seemed minimal, and there was no reason for them to trick him.

Moreover... when they encountered wolves earlier, Young Master Meng had even saved him, pulling him to safety.

He finally stopped kneeling and sat obediently in the corner.

Seeing Meng Pei cleaning and bandaging Uncle Meng’s wounds, he tried to ingratiate himself by asking, ”Uh, do you need any help?”

Meng Pei gave him a glance, and the bandit shrank back, ”Alright, alright, I get it, I won’t do anything, don’t worry about me causing trouble.”

Meng Pei lowered his head and continued cleaning, with Young Master He helping him.

Being a woman, Shu Yu found it inconvenient, so she simply sat by the door, listening to the sounds outside.

The noise outside had gradually subsided, but Steward Guo should soon organize a carpet search.

Fortunately, the black market was vast, and after the chaos, they had significant personnel losses, with many still needing help and wound bandaging. In such a situation, it was unlikely they’d be found here in the short term.

The only concern was that this abandoned room was too close to the warehouse, and if Jiang Kuanyu ordered a search to start nearby, they would be in grave danger.
