The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1669: Chapter 1669: The Black Market Prison Cells

Meng Yunzheng glanced at him sideways, ”Do you have the right to negotiate terms now? Besides, what if the person I want to rescue is inside there?”

”Impossible.”

”How do you know it’s impossible?”

”I...” The mountain bandit wasn’t sure either; he was just a house guard.

Looking at Meng Yunzheng’s expressionless face, he eventually said nothing, feeling as if he were on the verge of losing control, but still guided them with twitching eyelids to the left.

There were only two guards here, positioned at the entrance.

The two of them leaned lazily against the side, eating. When they saw them coming in, they slightly lifted their eyes and asked, ”What are you doing?”

The mountain bandit chuckled lewdly and said, ”Brothers are here to pick a girl to have fun with.”

The two had a look of indifference, cheerfully saying, ”Alright, go in and have a look. These days, we’ve been out of business, and these girls don’t have any customers to serve; they might be feeling quite thirsty.”

Shu Yu suddenly clenched her fists, a cold gleam flashing in her downcast eyes.

Meng Yunzheng also furrowed his brows tightly, exhaled slowly, and followed the mountain bandit inside.

Unlike the bright lights outside, it was notably darker here, with a long corridor lined with cells on either side, much like those in a government office prison.

Since the bandit said they were picking girls, the three of them held lanterns, and with the candles on either side, it was much brighter.

The first two cells contained people in tattered clothes, each of them leaning against the side with vacant eyes, as if they couldn’t hear or see what was happening outside.

The mountain bandit explained in a low voice, ”They’re all brought in for hard labor.”

It’s no wonder they were all men, all emaciated and seemingly having suffered greatly.

As they went further, the people inside were different from the ones before; the people in these two cells were filthy, and some were bloodstained, but their clothes were still decent.

The mountain bandit said, ”These are the ones kidnapped from Chenggu County.”

Among them were young noblemen, middle-aged people, and even children.

According to the information Shu Yu had, it seemed some women were also kidnapped, but it was unclear where they were kept or if they were... still alive.

She took a deep breath slowly, her inner agitation growing stronger. The Second Prince and the Third Prince, they are truly despicable.

Meng Yunzheng squeezed her hand unobtrusively, whispering, ”Calm down.”

”I know.” Shu Yu closed her eyes, gradually calming down.

However, the sobs and cries they couldn’t shut out, the screams and wails they heard outside came from these two cells.

Among them, someone seemed injured, some were beaten, and others were at death’s door.

Yet the guards at the door didn’t care, as if whether they lived or died was irrelevant.

The mountain bandit leading Shu Yu and the others banged on the door a couple of times, ”Shut up, all of you, crying and howling like ghosts? If you keep it up, I’ll feed you all to the beasts.”

A young nobleman could no longer hold back, rushed to the door, and grabbed the wooden bars with eyes red with fury, ”Kill me, you beasts, you will not end well, you will die a miserable death.”

”Want to die? I’ll drag you out right now to fill the bellies of those beasts...” Before he could finish, the corner of his eye caught sight of Meng Yunzheng standing aside, and the mountain bandit quickly shut his mouth, changing his tone, ”If you have complaints, don’t blame us; it’s the emperor who won’t grant amnesty and forced us to the brink.”
