The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1656: Chapter 1656: That Escort Really Survived

Meng Yunzheng narrowed his eyes, ”Help.”

Shu Yu immediately raised her wrist, directly aiming a sleeve arrow at one person.

With a ”swish”, this time it was aimed at the person’s neck, and the target fell instantly.

The remaining two were stunned for a moment, startled and turned their heads, but as one of them just lifted his head, he was knocked down by Meng Yunzheng.

The other one came face to face with Meng Qi and exchanged a few moves, but upon seeing his companion killed, he refused to continue fighting. Without hesitation, he tried to run out of the abandoned house, but Shu Yu stood at the doorway, raising her wrist for another arrow.

Within a few breaths, the three who initially had the upper hand were all down.

Meng Yunzheng checked them, confirming they had all stopped breathing. He examined their bodies and saw the same dagger as the one the previous man had.

Sure enough, that man was also a mountain bandit.

After collecting their weapons, Meng Yunzheng finally approached the man gasping heavily on the ground, ”How are you?”

The man, having survived the ordeal, released his held breath, finding it hard to get up now.

With difficulty, he managed to turn over, leaning half his body against the wall, sweat covering his face when he looked up.

”Th-thank you, for saving my life.”

”Who are you, why are you here?”

The man wiped the blood that blurred his vision and looked at them, ”I...”

He was about to introduce himself but froze upon seeing Shu Yu, speaking uncertainly, ”Monarch Lu Xiang?”

Shu Yu was startled, ”You know me?”

”You really are Monarch Lu Xiang. How could you appear here? Is it, is it that the Dongan Prefecture reinforcements have arrived?” As the man spoke, his eyes began to shine with hope, trying hard to get up, yet his legs weakened, causing him to slump back down quickly.

Shu Yu heard him mention Dongan Prefecture and reinforcements, questioning suspiciously, ”Are you... from the Dongan Prefecture authorities?”

Unexpectedly, the man shook his head directly, ”No, I am not from the authorities, but I am indeed from Dongan Prefecture. I used to go to Jiangyuan County on an escort mission and saw you once on the street. Never thought I’d see you here again.”

Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng exchanged a glance, escort mission??

”Are you an escort from the Dongan Prefecture city?”

The man nodded, seemingly happier upon seeing someone he knew, unable to help but break into a smile. His cracked lips instantly sprouted blood drops, turning crimson red.

He didn’t mind and just said, ”Indeed, I am an escort from Dongan Prefecture. My name is Yuan Gui.”

Shu Yu was shocked, ”What did you say your name was?”

Yuan Gui was momentarily confused, not understanding her expression, becoming slightly wary, his voice lowering, ”Yuan, Yuan... Gui.”

Shu Yu suddenly wanted to laugh; it was indeed him. He really hadn’t died, and just like Jiang Kuanyu, appeared in Chenggu County.

She took a deep breath and confirmed, ”You are Yuan Gui, an escort from Jianghe Escort Agency in Dongan Prefecture? Last year when escorting the Jiang family back to their Northern hometown from Dongan Prefecture, you fell off a cliff in Changjin Prefecture?”

Yuan Gui widened his eyes, ”How do you know?” Then he realized, and with a bitter smile, said, ”Didn’t expect that my story has already spread in the prefecture city, even Monarch Lu Xiang knows.”

”No, your story hasn’t actually spread. Jianghe Escort Agency wanted to use escorting the Jiang family to gain fame and attract more business, so they suppressed your story initially. Then your neighbors sensed something was off, and only then did they announce externally that you had an accident on another escort journey.”
