The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1674: Chapter 1674: Hidden Guard Xia Yi

Meng Yunzheng and the others quickly walked out of the sight of those two people. Once they were out of sight, the mountain bandit hurriedly pulled Meng Yunzheng forward a few steps, lowered his voice, and asked, ”What exactly do you want to do? Aren’t you looking for someone? Bringing along a girl like this is just a burden.”

”A burden? Not necessarily.”

”What do you mean?”

The two of them walked ahead, talking. Shu Yu and the girl named Yi’er fell behind a bit. Seeing that they had put a little distance between them, Shu Yu lowered her voice and asked, ”Where is Qi Lie?”

Yi’er suddenly looked up at her, her expression a bit excited, ”You are...”

”Lu Shuyu.”

Yi’er was surprised, ”Monarch Lu Xiang? Why have you come?”

Shu Yu pointed at the people in front and briefly explained their purpose for coming.

Earlier, Meng Yunzheng had whispered to her about Yi’er’s identity. This girl named Xia Yi was a Hidden Guard at the Emperor’s side. She hadn’t shown her face in public before, but Meng Yunzheng knew her because once Xia Yi had passed on a message from the Emperor to him.

They all knew Qi Lie had infiltrated the black market, and they suspected he wasn’t the only one who had.

But they hadn’t expected Xia Yi to be involved as well. Her identity in the black market... she simply couldn’t have stayed uninvolved all this time.

However, this meant nothing to Xia Yi. As a Hidden Guard, matters of reputation were irrelevant to her; she wouldn’t hesitate to give her life. What’s more, this involved plotting rebellion, so what are such sacrifices?

Facing the admiration in Shu Yu’s words, Xia Yi smiled, ”It’s rare to see you not looking at me with a strange gaze. Just that is enough.”

She seemed quite pleased, walking with her arm around Shu Yu and said, ”Lord Qi is not here. Two days ago, a large group from the black market headed to the neighboring county town, and Lord Qi was among them. He was worried that the neighboring county might encounter chaos similar to Chenggu County’s and specially switched to go there. With him there, it might not be too disastrous.”

After a pause, Xia Yi’s expression became serious, ”Lord Qi was very angry about what happened in Chenggu County. But it happened too suddenly; at that time, Lord Qi happened to leave the black market with the steward and couldn’t make it back in time. I... my abilities are limited, and I couldn’t stop it. Is Chenggu County okay?”

Shu Yu thought of everything she had seen since arriving in the county town, her tone somewhat stifled, ”Not very well, many buildings were burned down. The people suffered countless casualties, and now they are being held in the county town as hostages by the county magistrate of Chenggu County, not allowing them to leave.”

Xia Yi’s gaze fell on the mountain bandit ahead, her voice icy, ”When reinforcements from the capital arrive, these people will definitely pay the price.”

”They will.”

After discussing the whereabouts of Qi Lie, Shu Yu asked if she had seen Uncle Meng and Meng Pei.

Unfortunately, Xia Yi shook her head, expressing great regret, ”Ever since the black market stopped receiving guests, we girls have mostly been cooped up in the cells. I did find a chance to go out once in the meantime, but that was four days ago. At that time, there were still many people in the black market. Our actions were limited, and we couldn’t move around freely, so we didn’t get much information.”

Since then, they have been locked up inside, and it was impossible to see Uncle Meng and Meng Pei, who entered two days ago.

Shu Yu furrowed her brows tightly; their information was still too limited.

She could only ask about Jiang Kuanyu. However, Jiang Kuanyu was mostly absent from the black market. But Xia Yi knew his residence in the black market, and she also knew Jiang Kuanyu had a female friend here.
