The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1072: Chapter 1072: Took a fancy to Dabai

Shu Yu narrowed her eyes, looking at the coachman in front of her.

She didn’t trust him; his eyes were evasive when he spoke, clearly lying.

However...

Shu Yu looked at the reins in her hand, which indeed had tear marks, as if they had been violently broken.

But Dabai was personally cared for by Shu Yu and Ying Xi; both of them took great care of Dabai. Plus, this concerned their safety, so naturally the reins were of the best quality. They had just checked yesterday, and the rope was perfectly fine and couldn’t have broken so easily with just a couple of struggles.

Someone had set this up.

Shu Yu glanced at the coachman, then looked at the group of middle-aged men in front of her.

This group had already formed a circle around her and Ying Xi.

Shu Yu sneered, ”So what do you want? For me to compensate?”

The middle-aged man frowned but shook his head, ”No need, the collapse of the courtyard wall is the inn’s fault. We’ll address the compensation with the shopkeeper.”

Shu Yu raised her eyebrows, ”So...”

”But the two horses in our family have accompanied us brothers all the way, and we were deeply attached to them. We’re very sad they died just like that. Most importantly, our horses originally had a chance to escape, but they were harmed by your White Horse. We’re not asking you for money; just leave the White Horse to us to deal with.”

Shu Yu suddenly understood. Ah, they had taken a liking to her Dabai, and seeing that they were just two young girls, they thought they could easily bully them?

She looked at the inn’s shopkeeper, who turned his face away, avoiding her gaze.

Shu Yu understood now: one had coveted her White Horse, and the other didn’t want to pay more compensation, so they conspired against her, right?

It seemed reasoning wouldn’t work, and it was a waste of time and energy.

Since that’s the case, then...

”Report to the authorities.”

The crowd exclaimed in surprise.

The shopkeeper and the middle-aged man’s expressions clearly changed.

Shu Yu lifted her head and said with a smile, ”I deny that my White Horse kicked your horse. Now I have reason to suspect you’re trying to extort me by deliberately spreading false rumors. I also suspect the shopkeeper is trying to shirk compensation by having the coachman falsely testify and make me the scapegoat. I’m just a weak woman; I can’t fight you, and I’m away from home without a helper, so I can only report to the authorities.”

Someone in the crowd quickly said, ”Miss, reporting to the authorities isn’t a good idea. A trip to the authorities will take a toll on you; better to negotiate with them again.”

Shu Yu turned her head, smiled at the crowd, and said, ”No, I want to report it to the authorities. The officials are there to serve the people. I believe the authorities will clear my name, and we should have faith in the authorities and the imperial court.”

Others, ”...”

The middle-aged man didn’t want to report to the authorities, frowning immediately, ”Miss, there’s no need for that. We just want to deal with this White Horse.”

”That’s not possible. You say those two horses were deeply attached to you, but my Dabai has been with me for over ten years. You think I can just hand him over to you? I’m not that heartless.”

Ying Xi silently bowed his head, thinking, Miss, Dabai hasn’t even been with you for ten days.

The middle-aged man was also bewildered; this White Horse didn’t look more than just fully grown. How could it be over ten years old?

”Alright, everyone move aside. I’m going to report to the authorities.”

Shu Yu finished speaking and started leading her horse away. The middle-aged man’s face turned stern. He exchanged glances with the people behind him, giving them a signal.

The people behind surged forward, as if intending to forcibly take it from her.
