The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1053: Chapter 1053: Monarch Lu Xiang Hit You and Scolded You

Xiang Weinan listened with great shock, his expression growing more stern, “Is there really such a thing?? This is unacceptable, our Dasu dynasty has always been clear in hierarchy, with strict laws. Naturally, a county magistrate is more noble than a village chief. How can we permit such transgressions?”

County Magistrate Zhang hurriedly shook her head, “No, Lord Xiang, it’s not…”

Xiang Weinan didn’t give her a chance to speak, asking with a stern face, “County Magistrate Zhang, tell me, how did Monarch Lu Xiang commit such a transgression? Did she hit you?”

County Magistrate Zhang was stunned, subconsciously shaking her head.

“She didn’t hit you? Then did she insult you?”

County Magistrate Zhang shook her head again.

Xiang Weinan frowned, “If Monarch Lu Xiang neither hit you nor insulted you, then how did she commit a transgression? What exactly did she do?”

“She, she…”

Seeing her at a loss for words, Xiang Weinan slightly furrowed his brow, “It seems County Magistrate Zhang is indeed greatly shocked. In that case, take a moment to rest, while I inquire with Monarch Lu Xiang.”

He then turned his head, asking Shu Yu very seriously, “Monarch Lu Xiang, what exactly did you do to County Magistrate Zhang?”

Shu Yu sighed, “I didn’t do anything to County Magistrate Zhang. I merely insulted her brother, Zhang Maolin, and had someone beat Zhang Maolin and County Magistrate Zhang’s two guards. Lord Xiang, can it be considered a transgression for me, a village chief, to insult and beat the county magistrate’s brother? Is County Magistrate Zhang’s brother of higher status than me?”

Xiang Weinan was taken aback, his brow tightly knitted, “Of course not.”

He glanced at County Magistrate Zhang and, after a moment of silence, adopting a stance as if to defend her, asked, “Monarch Lu Xiang, though Zhang Maolin is just a commoner, as a village chief, you shouldn’t beat or insult at will. What did he do for you to act so violently?”

“My lord, fairness is necessary in speech. Zhang Maolin came to the door of our home and first laid hands on our servants. There were so many people present who can testify to this; they saw it clearly. Our servants initially did not intend to fight back. On such an important day as my Coming-of-age Day, when someone comes to cause trouble, I can’t just ignore it, right? What I did was self-defense, wasn’t it?”

“No, no wrong.”

“Furthermore, regarding my insult to him, this person of poor character came to propose marriage unsolicited and caused a scene when rejected. Who wouldn’t be angered by this?”

Xiang Weinan widened his eyes in surprise, then turned to scrutinize Zhang Maolin up and down. After a moment, he nodded slightly and said, “County Magistrate Zhang, this… Monarch Lu Xiang did not wrongfully accuse.”

Your brother is indeed somewhat unappealing, not to mention he’s no match for Meng Yunzheng. Even slightly handsome men surpass him significantly.

The problem is that appearance is secondary; his character is also poor and deserves scolding.

Shu Yu asked innocently, “So I insulted Zhang Maolin, and beat Zhang Maolin too, as he was at fault first. If there is talk of transgressions, isn’t it Zhang Maolin who disrespected me first? County Magistrate Zhang wanting to accuse me is a false accusation, isn’t it?”

Xiang Weinan’s expression grew serious, “County Magistrate Zhang, is what Monarch Lu Xiang said true?”

County Magistrate Zhang wanted to say no, but upon reflection, it seemed Monarch Lu Xiang’s words were indeed reasonable.

It was indeed her brother who made the first move, and her insult was also directed at her brother.

But, but it still feels like it shouldn’t be this way.

Xiang Weinan then asked the onlooking citizens, “Let me ask everyone, you witnessed the entire event; is what Monarch Lu Xiang said true?”
