The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1058: Chapter 1058 Zhao Xi Is Still Here

When Shu Yu escorted Meng Yunzheng out the door earlier, she passed through the front courtyard and didn’t see Zhao Xi. She thought he had gone ahead to prepare things.

Little did she expect he had only gone to the county office??

Zhao Xi was momentarily stunned before he uncertainly asked, “Yu, do you mean he, he’s already gone to the capital?”

“You didn’t know?”

Zhao Xi slapped his thigh, “He never mentioned it to me at all.”

His face suddenly turned very grim, “When did he leave?”

“Just a moment ago.”

Zhao Xi turned his head and ran, “I’ll chase after him right away.”

However, after taking two steps towards the outside, he returned, “I remember Third Mrs. Fan sent you two horses today, right? Give me one.”

There was only one horse at home, which should have been ridden away by Meng Yunzheng by now.

Shu Yu quickly led Zhao Xi to the stable, while the other members of the Lu family stood there looking at each other in confusion.

“What does this mean? Yunzheng has gone to the capital?”

“I heard before that he had some matters to attend to in the capital, but he didn’t say he would leave today.”

Shu Yu remained silent the whole way, her brows tightly furrowed. So Meng Yunzheng had gone to the capital and had only told her, not even Zhao Xi.

Zhao Xi, seeing her expression, knew she was worried, and immediately said, “Don’t overthink it. I guess Yun thought now that I’m engaged, he wanted me to spend more time with your sister to develop our feelings, so he didn’t take me along. He’ll be fine; there are people by his side to protect him, so don’t worry.”

Shu Yu nodded, “I understand.”

The two of them arrived at the stable; the two horses were just there eating hay, looking quite spirited.

It’s just that one was an adult and the other wasn’t.

Zhao Xi pulled out the adult horse and said to Shu Yu, “I’ll chase after him now, don’t worry. Take care of your sister, and wait for us to come back.”

Shuyou also ran up, seeing him mounting the horse and heading out through the side gate, she couldn’t help but feel anxious inside.

Zhao Xi waved to her, “Ah You, don’t worry, we’ll get married when I come back.”

With that, he shook the reins, and the horse bolted out swiftly to catch up with Meng Yunzheng.

Shuyou only managed to take a couple of steps forward, “Be careful…”

Zhao Xi waved his hand back at her.

It wasn’t until Zhao Xi had completely disappeared from sight that Shuyou gripped Shu Yu’s hand and softly asked, “Yu, is something happening in the capital?”

“No, there’s just something Yun has to deal with. Originally, Zhao Xi was always with him. Now that Zhao Xi is engaged, Yun didn’t want to disturb the two of you. Besides, their bet has expired, so Zhao Xi is no longer his retainer, which is why Yun didn’t tell him about going back to the capital.”

Shuyou knew about Zhao Xi becoming Meng Yunzheng’s retainer.

Hearing Shu Yu’s explanation, she felt somewhat relieved.

“Let’s go back, so Mother and Father won’t worry.”

The two of them returned to the main hall, where the Lu family indeed gathered around with concern and inquiries.

Shu Yu repeated her previous explanation, which finally put everyone’s mind at ease.

By evening, Xiang Weinan sent Hu Li over to explain the situation regarding County Magistrate Zhang.

“Zhang Maolin was insubordinate, and both the witness and material evidence are conclusive. He admitted it himself and received twenty strokes of the cane. However, County Magistrate Zhang didn’t actually cause any substantial harm, and claiming she made false accusations doesn’t hold either.”

Hu Li sighed, pointing out that when Xiang Weinan inquired about the ins and outs of the matter, County Magistrate Zhang was so shocked by the gifts sent from the capital that she couldn’t speak.

The person who accused Shu Yu of being insubordinate and offending County Magistrate Zhang was among the onlooking populace.
