The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1070: Chapter 1070: The Collapse of the Courtyard Wall

The decision was made like this. Shu Yu only hoped the rain would stop soon. If it continued tomorrow, they would have to linger further.

Fortunately, by the evening, the rain gradually subsided and stopped at the onset of night.

However, in the middle of the night, the sound of rain pounded the windows again.

Shu Yu sighed, turned over, and continued to sleep.

The next day, the sky was bright, and the sun reappeared. Shu Yu breathed a sigh of relief.

Opening the window, the street was slowly becoming lively.

Ying Xi tidied up and then said, ”Miss, why don’t you rest for a while? I’ll go buy breakfast and some dry food for the road.”

”Okay, go ahead.”

After Ying Xi left, Shu Yu began to wash up and pack their bags.

Ying Xi returned quickly, and the two of them had breakfast together, preparing to check out and leave.

As soon as they stood up, a loud noise suddenly came from outside, accompanied by the screams of people and the neighing of horses and donkeys, startling them both.

”It seems... the sound came from the backyard.” Ying Xi raised his head and widened his eyes. ”I’ll go check it out.”

”I’ll go too.” Her carriage was still tied over by the stable in the backyard.

The earlier noise included the neighing of horses and donkeys. Could something have happened to the horses?

They grabbed their bags and rushed out.

Their room was a bit far away, and it took them some time, winding and winding, before they got to the backyard.

By that time, a large group of people had gathered in the backyard, pointing and discussing in front of them.

As Shu Yu got closer, she finally heard what they were saying.

”...The backyard wall, along with the right side of the stable, has completely collapsed.”

”This yard hasn’t been repaired in a long time. A few days ago, I warned the shopkeeper that the courtyard wall seemed a bit tilted, but the shopkeeper didn’t take it seriously. With the heavy rain yesterday, now the wall has collapsed, damaging quite a few things, all of which need compensation.” The speaker was wearing clothes from the inn’s kitchen, presumably helping out in the back kitchen.

”The other stuff is fine since most of the valuable and fragile items were taken back to the rooms by the guests. The most important issue is the few livestock. I just took a look; it seems like one donkey, one mule, and two horses are damaged. The compensation won’t be small.”

Shu Yu frowned and exchanged a glance with Ying Xi before quickly squeezing into the crowd to the forefront.

The scene was a mess, quite distressing to look at.

Several livestock were being dragged out. The two horses were possibly the nearest to the collapsed wall, with one badly injured and the other already lifeless.

The donkey, being small, probably shrank into a corner and thus got minor injuries but was not in danger. It was being comforted by its owner, but due to being overly frightened, it was raising its neck and braying loudly.

The mule’s leg was hit, lying on the ground with its condition unknown. Its owner was circling anxiously, asking around for a reliable veterinarian.

The remaining unharmed horses were tied to the left side. The coachman from the stable was calming them down, trying to settle them.

This included Shu Yu’s White Horse, and Shu Yu breathed a slight sigh of relief.

Ying Xi whispered, ”We arrived at the inn right after noon yesterday when there weren’t many guests yet, and the stable didn’t have any horses. So, Dabai was tied to the very left shed, a bit away from the collapsed wall, and should be fine.”

It might just be frightened; it’s unclear how big the problem is.
