The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 448: Chapter 448: Comparing People, Worse Than Comparing to the Dead

The face of the Heavenly Family is something you can never offend. No noble family in the entire Capital would dare to offend it. After all, it’s the Heavenly Family. If you offend their dignity, do you want to live in the dust for a lifetime?

With this mindset, Song Ci could only follow along, or rather, go with the flow.

The Imperial Family’s hot spring manor, one must go and leave their mark there.

Song Ci mentioned going, and Empress Dowager Wang also said to take the children along. Presumably, she would bring a few children from her side too, so who would go?

After some discussion, everyone decided to go, except for Madam Jiang, who was heavily pregnant and voluntarily took over the temporary housekeeping duties. The rest went to have fun.

Madam Song actually felt a bit embarrassed. After all, the year-end was nearing, and as the lady of the house, she left everything behind to go out and have fun. How inappropriate did that seem?

But it’s rare to get close to the Empress Dowager, and she didn’t want to miss this opportunity, so she shamelessly entrusted Madam Jiang to look after the house. She promised to be back in just two days.

Madam Jiang didn’t mind, saying that watching over the house was no big deal. The servants in the Prime Minister’s Mansion far outnumbered the masters, all well-trained in what should and shouldn’t be done, so there was no need for her guidance.

She merely needed to distribute some tokens and arrange a few tasks. Her pregnancy was stable, her spirits were high, and managing affairs was second nature to her.

Of course, the child’s father naturally stayed in the mansion to accompany her.

Thus, the Prime Minister’s Mansion’s party grandly followed the Imperial carriages out of the city, heading to the Imperial hot spring manor for a holiday.

Some people in the capital saw them leave, and after inquiring, they could only sigh.

Still, the face of the Song Minister’s Mansion was grand.

Envy and jealousy surged madly.

Yet, Song Ci saw none of this.

As soon as the carriage was out of the city, she was summoned by Empress Dowager Wang to her palanquin, under the pretext that the journey was long and sitting together would allow for joyous conversation.

After several conversations, Song Ci actually understood the nature of the world’s most noble person. Outwardly graceful and majestic, yet privately a bit of a chatterbox.

It’s truly perplexing that she managed to become Empress Dowager and survive to this day. Could it be due to an inherently good fortune?

”Song Ci, what are you thinking about?” Empress Dowager Wang, dressed in light palace attire with a simple bun, shed the usual solemn dignity and appeared as a relaxed and gentle old lady.

However, she was well-maintained, unlike Song Ci, who appeared old and tired. The Empress Dowager resembled a noble lady, whereas Song Ci resembled a character out of some dream of an old granny.

Comparisons between people can be deadly.

Suppressing her envy, Song Ci smiled and said, ”I was thinking that I never dared to imagine such good days in the past.”

The Empress Dowager’s smile slightly paused, and she playfully rebuked, ”So you’re thinking about those past days again?”

”Just a bit of sentimentality, Empress Dowager. Many years have passed in the blink of an eye.”

Empress Dowager Wang reached over and held her hand, saying, ”You know that those days are long gone. Many years have passed. At our age, why bother thinking about then? It’s better to happily enjoy the present and look forward to the future. After all, we’re getting old.”

When you’re old, you might not wake up after sleeping, so it’s not worth dwelling on the past during these beautiful times.

”Empress Dowager, you are more open-minded than I am, no wonder you look younger than me,” Song Ci laughed as she flattered her.

The Empress Dowager was very pleased but pretended to be modest, saying, ”Oh no, I’m actually two years older than you.”

”That’s what’s so remarkable. I heard that using pearl powder on the face makes skin smooth, and also rose petals. Shall we add some to our baths later?”

Song Ci dared not mention milk since there was a snow disaster. Although the situation was gradually getting under control, it was best not to touch on sensitive topics to avoid public dislike.
