The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 421: Chapter 421: Suffering 10,000 Points of Thunderous Critical Hit

Witnessing with her own eyes a days-old baby having her ears pierced, Song Ci felt like she was hit by a thousand blows, her eyes twitching uncontrollably.

It hurt so much that even from afar she could feel the pain on behalf of the girl, poor little one.

Madam Jiang’s eyes turned red, and tears fell instantly. If she gave birth to a daughter, and she had to endure this piercing torture, could she withstand this scene?

The thought of it made her heart feel like it was splitting apart.

They felt the pain, and in the inner room, Song Ruqian was listening intently to the commotion outside, wanting to get out of bed and see what was happening. Why was the crying so intense?

Her trusted nursemaid stopped her, only offering a reminder, and Song Ruqian bit her lip, her eyes reddening, yet she refrained from going.

She couldn’t bear it, and she didn’t dare to watch.

Then don’t go and watch.

Song Ci looked at the baby crying loudly, her heart twitching, wishing she could rush forward and take the baby away. Glancing around at everyone else, their faces still smiling, as if this was all too familiar to them.

If it were their own daughters, would they remain so calm?

A wound on the child’s body, pain in the mother’s heart!

But Song Ci still retained some rationality, knowing this was ancient times, all girls had to go through this. If not pierced now, it might hurt more and they would resist more when they grew older.

She understood the reasoning, but why did it only seem to get worse the more she watched?

Alas, this damned feudal era!

Fortunately, the midwife was very swift, piercing the ears quickly, and the child was dressed and tidied up.

With the ceremony over, the nanny took the child again, carrying her into the inner room.

The crowd also began to move, and before Song Ci could say anything, she saw her daughter-in-law Madam Jiang swiftly fish a red date out of the birth basin, casually wipe it with a handkerchief, and pop it into her mouth.

Song Ci: ”???”

Stunned, her pupils widened in shock.

You, Madam Jiang, are actually this bold, with such a heavy taste!

Madam Jiang saw her mother-in-law looking as if she’d seen a ghost, bit the red date, covered her mouth with a handkerchief, and laughed, asking: ”Mother, why are you looking at me like that?”

”How does it taste?” Song Ci awkwardly asked.

”Hmm?”

Song Ci pointed to the birth basin and asked: ”I mean, how does the bathwater taste? You seem to enjoy it quite a bit, is it sweet?”

Madam Jiang: ”...”

Song Ci’s expression was complicated, noticing some of the other pregnant women also took red dates, but some just held them without eating, while others did eat, leaving her with an indescribable expression.

What if the baby had just pooped in it, then got washed?

Ugh.

Song Ci glanced at the water in the basin and felt again the thousand points of assault, oh, this time it was a thunderous blow.

After the birthing ritual ended, Song Ci and the others chatted with Song Ruqian for a while before taking their leave.

In the carriage, Song Ci leaned weakly against the soft pillow inside.

”Why is the Madam not in high spirits?”

”Ah, it’s nothing. Just thinking the ritual is quite tedious, the little girls are so pitiful.” Song Ci said softly: ”So small and having their ears pierced, just imagine the pain.”

Nanny Gong: ”That’s how it is for the girls. It’s better to pierce before they grow up; otherwise, they’d be more unwilling when they mature.”

Song Ci opened her mouth, wanting to argue, but felt powerless.

If it were her daughter, she wouldn’t pierce them if she didn’t want to.

She suddenly thought of something even scarier and asked wide-eyed: ”Nanny Gong, in Great Qing, no one binds feet, right?”

That was far more cruel and terrifying than piercing ears.

Nanny Gong looked over: ”We don’t want to scare you, nor do we want to deceive you; there is indeed foot binding.”

Song Ci turned pale.
