The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 409: Chapter 409: Go Dream of the Red Chamber

Niu Pan’er and Song Zhiyu returned to Fufeng Pavilion and had Ying Hua go to relay a message to Song Zhiyuan. It was definitely more appropriate to discuss the audience with the emperor with her brother-in-law, considering he was as cunning as a fox.

Song Zhiyuan was a bit surprised. After listening to the message, he pondered for a moment and then said to Ying Hua, ”Go back and tell the Commandery Princess that I understand, and she doesn’t need to worry. Just go about her usual activities.”

Ying Hua acknowledged and, after making a courtesy bow, took his leave.

Song Zhiyuan stood in place, thought for a while, and then sighed softly.

The new talents of the Song Family had indeed garnered much attention.

Chunhui Hall.

Song Ci was driving away the old Master Song with a look of disdain.

”If you want to leave, just leave. Why tell me? Hurry up and pack up, then go to the manor!”

This old fellow acted as if the mansion were poisoned — his son got married just yesterday, and he was already saying he wanted to return to the manor.

Bah, as if anyone cares about him.

The old Master Song said angrily, ”You rotten old woman, now you’re not even pretending anymore. Look at you, full of disdain for me.”

”You’re at this age, almost with one foot in the grave, and you expect me to put on an act for you, pretend to care for you? Look how smug you’ve become.” Not kicking you is already a favor.

The old Master Song pointed at her, gave a heavy snort, and angrily flung his sleeves as he walked out.

”Hold on.” Song Ci suddenly called out to him.

The old Master Song turned back with a sneer, ”Oh, couldn’t hold it in any longer? If you’d acted sooner, all this could’ve been avoided.”

After all, the old woman couldn’t bear to part with him.

”I’m telling you, winter is approaching. Even at the manor, don’t overindulge and ruin your health; you are an old man now.” Song Ci said with a dark expression.

The old Master Song gave her a sidelong glance, ”At last, you know how to care for your man.”

Song Ci looked at him as if he were a fool, and said, ”Care for you? Dream on with your ’Dream of the Red Chamber’! I’m just worried you’ll overindulge, stretch out your legs, and go meet your parents. Then the eldest and the others would have to mourn, and where would that leave the influence of our Prime Minister’s Mansion? I haven’t enjoyed enough of my good fortune yet!”

The old Master Song: ”...”

The foul-mouthed old woman was clearly cursing him!

”Just mind your own business!” he snapped, leaving without looking back. If he didn’t leave now, he’d worry about dying from anger caused by this old woman.

Song Ci rolled her eyes and said, ”I really don’t know how I put up with him for decades!”

Old lady, you really had it tough!

...

In Plum Garden, Mrs. Lu was looking over the bracelet that Song Ruwei had received. The bracelet was small and exquisite, set with various gemstones, very beautiful. But she was thinking about the pair of hairpins that Song Ruqi had received.

Mrs. Lu sighed. There is always a difference between legitimate and illegitimate children, a societal hierarchy that manifests notably in gift-giving.

Song Ruwei liked the bracelet very much, but seeing her mother’s lack of interest, she cautiously asked, ”Mother, what’s wrong? Is the bracelet not good?”

”Your second sister’s pair of hairpins are much more precious and beautiful. Do you know why? It’s because she’s a legitimate daughter of the Prime Minister’s Mansion. In the eyes of the Commandery Princess, she’s more precious and important.” Mrs. Lu’s gaze swept over the bracelet, feeling a bit disappointed, ”In the end, it all comes down to birth.”

Song Ruwei pursed her lips, hesitated for a long while, and said, ”Mother, this bracelet is quite precious too. We can’t change our birth, so you shouldn’t dwell on it. Though I am illegitimate, my brothers and sisters treat me and Zhou’er very well in this family, and that’s enough!”

Mrs. Lu was taken aback.

”Mother, I know father will soon have new daughters and sons, but only Zhou’er and I are legitimate!” Song Ruwei held her hand and said, ”Mother, Grandmother often says we should understand and cherish our blessings and be content. I think that’s right. If we don’t know contentment, in the end, we will all become unrecognizable.”

Mrs. Lu’s heart skipped a beat, and tears began to fall as she embraced her daughter tightly.

Changes have made the child grow up overnight. How did Wei’er come to understand such things? She must have been deeply affected.
