The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 428: Chapter 428: Hurry, Protect Me!

Nanny walked in and saw the heavy atmosphere, then smiled and bowed.

”Madam, the Commandery Princess and Fourth Master have come to pay their respects to you!”

Song Ci’s eyes lit up: ”Why have they suddenly come? They didn’t send anyone ahead to say so, quickly let them in.”

Madam Song saw the bright smile on Song Ci’s face and felt a twinge of jealousy. In terms of fondness, the old lady favored the youngest, and now there was also Commandery Princess Dongyang.

A bit jealous.

Song Zhiyu and Niu Pan’er walked in, first greeting everyone at the door. With the maid’s help, they took off their cloaks, warmed themselves by the fire to get rid of the chill, and then came over to sit down.

”Why have you come over and not let someone send word first?” Song Ci took Niu Pan’er’s hand, letting her sit beside her, and glanced at her fourth child.

Oh, this young couple had a spat, look at his mouth, it’s so pouty that it could hang an oil bottle.

”We came to accompany mother for dinner.” Niu Pan’er replied smiling.

Madam Song heard and said, ”Oh, then I’ll have the main kitchen prepare two more dishes.”

Song Ci said, ”No need, just have the clear lamb soup pot, it’s warm and comforting.”

Madam Song agreed with a smile, sensing her brother-in-law’s low spirits, she sensibly took her daughter and left.

”What’s wrong with this kid?” Song Ci asked Niu Pan’er, throwing a disapproving glance at her youngest son, whom was he giving attitude to.

Niu Pan’er felt somewhat helpless, about to speak.

But Song Zhiyu spoke first: ”Mother, you have to talk sense into her. Who gets married and then leaves their husband everywhere so soon after? She actually wants to go dig snow.”

Song Ci was startled, looking at Niu Pan’er, what was this talk?

”Mother, this is an unexpected duty. Recently, regular heavy snow has caused disasters, many villages have been buried under snow and we don’t know if people are trapped, the roads are blocked. I need to lead troops to Henan to clear roads and provide aid, it’s official business.”

Song Ci’s expression changed slightly: ”Is it that serious?”

”Even the imperial envoy has set off for disaster relief.”

”Official business cannot be shirked, but why are you the one going? There’s so many people.” Song Ci knew work is work, but in her heart, naturally, she didn’t want her child to go out in the cold, uncertain of the severe chill, or any potential dangers.

But she had neither the qualification nor the right to refuse, and couldn’t say no.

”Many troops have been sent out, mother don’t worry, I’m just leading, it’s not dangerous, just commanding. I’ll probably be back in half a month or a month.” Niu Pan’er assured.

Song Ci couldn’t really feel at ease, yet didn’t know what to say, as it was official business after all.

Niu Pan’er looked at her young husband, her eyes warm and soft, with some helplessness and apology.

She also knew, their time as a couple was short, and now that she had to leave the capital for official duties, the young man was understandably unhappy.

This evening she would have to coax him more.

”The Commandery Princess is on official business, don’t create trouble,” Song Ci began to warn her youngest son, ”if you make her worry, and she’s distracted outside, how will she watch out for danger?”

”She won’t worry about me!” Song Zhiyu retorted stubbornly, but inside he felt uneasy, would she? She’s exceptionally capable.

Song Ci raised an eyebrow: ”So you’re reluctant to part with her?”

Song Zhiyu jumped up, bristling: ”I’m not reluctant, just... whatever, if she wants to go, then go. I’m more at ease going out to drink.”

”You dare!” Song Ci glared at him: ”The Commandery Princess is on official duty outside, if you dare to indulge yourself, I’ll break your legs!”

Song Zhiyu shrunk his neck, looking at Niu Pan’er like a startled deer, quick, protect me!
