Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 240: Chapter 230: Under Suspicion

”Will this really work?”

Gu Yirou sat to the side, watching so intently she didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly.

She was just a Power Attribute Superpower User with a low attribute value and no combat experience whatsoever. She couldn’t understand the meaning behind Tang Mo’s series of actions at all.

But when she saw Qi Heng’s vacant-eyed and obedient state, she could guess that he was being controlled by Tang Mo.

Still, her heart was pounding in her chest, and she couldn’t relax. ’Will this really work?’

Over the past few months, she had come to understand just how brutal Brother Hu’s gang was.

She didn’t even dare to imagine the consequences they would face if they failed.

”Just stay by my side.”

Tang Mo still had a lot to do and didn’t have time to give Gu Yirou a lesson.

Hearing Tang Mo say this, Gu Yirou immediately went quiet.

’I can’t do anything to help, so it’s best not to cause Momo any trouble.’

Time ticked by, second by second. A strange silence fell over the three people in the room.

”Go to the first floor, wash your face, and then bring those two pieces of clothing up.”

”Okay.”

Gu Yirou was now completely obedient to Tang Mo’s words, going to do as she was told without even asking why.

Meanwhile, Tang Mo took out a damp towel in the room and carefully wiped her own hands and face.

’If you’re going to put on a show, you have to go all the way.’

Since Tang Mo wanted to complete this mission without bloodshed, she naturally had to be more meticulous in other areas.

Brother Hu was not to be underestimated; he was a meticulous person.

After Gu Yirou washed her face and came up with the clothes, Tang Mo instructed her to rip them up a bit and then toss them casually on the floor next to the bed.

Because Qi Heng had just been struggling and taking a beating on the bed, there was no need to mess it up intentionally.

It was already messy enough.

”Now, call Brother Hu and ask for the people I just mentioned.”

Enough time had passed. Tang Mo untied Qi Heng’s ropes, retrieved them into her Space, and even straightened his clothes for him.

Luckily, Gu Yirou’s club hadn’t hit Qi Heng in the face earlier, or it would have been difficult to explain later.

At this moment, Qi Heng’s consciousness was completely subservient to Tang Mo’s will. He would obey with a single thought from her.

However, just as Tang Mo had predicted, the phone call didn’t go so smoothly.

”Brother Heng, I’m not sure if it’s convenient right now, but could I come up and speak with you in person?”

Sure enough, Qi Heng’s special request this time had aroused Brother Hu’s suspicion.

He knew the image Qi Heng projected in Huaxi City. He had never taken anyone from this place before.

Wanting to take all the children this time, plus three women, couldn’t help but make Brother Hu think twice.

”Come on up.”

Everything Qi Heng said was according to Tang Mo’s instructions.

The call ended. Tang Mo walked over to Gu Yirou and viciously pinched her smooth cheek. The sudden pain brought tears to Gu Yirou’s eyes, but she didn’t dare to pull away.

After that, Tang Mo reached out and messed up Gu Yirou’s hair, then ran her hands through her own short hair a couple of times before nodding in satisfaction.

’Perfect.’

Brother Hu came up quickly. After knocking twice and getting Qi Heng’s permission, he pushed the door open and entered.

The first thing he saw was the messy state of the room, and two young women with disheveled hair, cowering in a corner with tear-streaked faces.

Brother Hu saw Tang Mo and Gu Yirou’s clean yet tearful faces and couldn’t help but nod.

’Truly top-tier quality. No wonder even Qi Heng was moved to take them back with him.’

”Brother Heng, taking so many people back this time, the base...”

”You don’t need to worry about the base. Gu Feng has been mostly focused on finding his daughters lately. The morale at the base is low, which makes it a good time for me to make some moves.”

Qi Heng retained his own consciousness, so even though he was acting on Tang Mo’s will, the content of his speech was delivered in his own habitual manner.

Brother Hu nodded. He had also heard that Gu Feng’s two daughters had gone missing recently, and that he was no longer as focused on the base’s affairs as before.

At first, he had suspected that he might have captured Gu Feng’s daughters himself, but after asking around, no one admitted to it, so he stopped thinking about it.

Although Gu Yirou and Gu Yining were just two young girls, they knew that revealing their identities at this time would lead to nothing good. In fact, it would only put them in a more dangerous situation, so they kept their mouths shut, one tighter than the other.

”What about the children?”

Compared to the three young women Qi Heng wanted, taking all the children seemed much more suspicious to Brother Hu.

”People in the upper echelons don’t lack for women, but you know how it is—the higher one’s position, the more... special tastes one develops. Whether they’re boys or girls, I naturally have my own uses for them.”

Qi Heng’s words were vague and suggestive. Paired with his disgusting, lecherous smile, what was there for Brother Hu not to understand?

”Understood. I’ll make the arrangements immediately.”

Having seen Qi Heng with his own eyes and heard his plans with his own ears, Brother Hu finally felt at ease.

He immediately went out to arrange everything.

Half an hour later, Qi Heng, Tang Mo, and Gu Yirou came out of the house.

This time, Qi Heng only brought two men with him, but that was enough.

One man drove the sedan they had arrived in, with Qi Heng in it, leading the way.

Gu Yirou and Tang Mo boarded a small bus behind them.

The bus was driven by another of Qi Heng’s attendants and was a vehicle prepared by Brother Hu.

After Tang Mo got on the bus, she saw more than a dozen children huddled together, their eyes filled with terror.

The girl named Xiao Yi was also sitting nervously in the back row of the bus, holding a child of about two years old in her arms.

Seeing Tang Mo get on, Xiao Yi’s expression immediately calmed.

It was as if she knew that what awaited her was no longer Hell, but a different, brighter destiny.

Another pair of eyes that calmed belonged to Little Bun. Sitting among the children, Little Bun knew the moment she saw Tang Mo get on the bus that they were saved.

”Shh.”

Tang Mo boarded the bus, turned her back to the driver, and made a shushing gesture at them.

They weren’t out of Brother Hu’s territory yet, so they still had to be careful. They couldn’t let all their efforts go to waste at the last minute.

Gu Yirou was the second one to board. As soon as she got on, her eyes scanned the group of children, searching for her sister.

”Yining!”

Gu Yirou quickly spotted her target and hurried toward her sister.

”Sister!”

Little Bun, in the middle of the children, had a look of joyful surprise. She hadn’t expected her sister to still be alive!

’This is great!’

The two embraced tightly. And Little Bun—no, she should be called Gu Yining now—gently stroked her sister’s hair.

Tang Mo watched the scene unfold, her face darkening...

’So they really are sisters.’

’Have their personalities been swapped or something?’
