Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 219: Chapter 209: Aberration

While Tang Mo and Jingjing were talking, Tang Mo’s keen senses suddenly picked up on something amiss outside.

Although the battle outside appeared to be going smoothly, the superpower users were using their numerical superiority to quickly suppress the seventy-odd mutant beasts.

They were all High-level superpower users, after all. If several of them couldn’t even win when ganging up on a single Advanced Mutant Beast, then all their time would have been a complete waste.

Tang Mo kept his spiritual power focused outside, observing. The soul fox had yet to make a move, so no one dared let their guard down.

But now, Tang Mo suddenly detected an additional wave of spiritual power.

This wasn’t from the group of Advanced Mutant Beasts in the battle, but a much higher-level and more powerful spiritual power.

It was the spiritual power of the soul fox.

Tang Mo remembered what Jingjing had just said. The Soul Beast’s spiritual power could control not only mutant beasts, but humans as well.

At that very moment, the superpower users in the heat of battle were struck by a sudden dizziness, as if something was invading their minds.

It wouldn’t be easy for the Soul Beast to control so many physically formidable superpower users.

However, simply interfering with them—or even making them temporarily lose their ability to fight—was extremely easy.

”Get back! Retreat, now!”

Sensing the danger, Tang Mo quickly darted out the door and shouted to the people fighting from his position behind the electric fence.

As veterans of countless battles, most of the superpower users knew that symptoms like these meant they were under a spiritual attack.

Tang Mo’s voice reached them at almost the same instant as the Soul Beast’s spiritual attack.

Upon feeling the strange sensation in their bodies and hearing Tang Mo’s voice, the superpower users immediately fell back.

However, some were too stubborn after being hit by the spiritual attack. Thinking, ’I can still fight,’ they didn’t retreat.

Others, with weaker spiritual power and lower attribute values, couldn’t withstand the first wave of the Soul Beast’s spiritual attack. Since they were already engaged with the Advanced Mutant Beasts, they had neither the time nor the opportunity to pull back.

”Lao Er, send a few Spiritual System superpower users to drag the people on the battlefield back here! Hurry! They’ll never withstand the second spiritual attack.”

Tang Mo urgently commanded Lao Er.

The Soul Beast’s spiritual power was primarily focused on controlling the Mutant Beast Group, so its spiritual attacks against the humans were coming in waves.

This was just the first wave, and most people were already showing a reaction.

By the time the second wave hit, superpower users with attribute values that weren’t high enough would completely lose their ability to fight. Even the combat effectiveness of those with high attribute values would be instantly and drastically reduced.

This was a battlefield; the moment you showed any weakness, your opponent wouldn’t give you an opening.

Those Advanced Mutant Beasts would counter-attack in an instant, tearing you to shreds and swallowing you whole.

Upon hearing Tang Mo, Lao Er didn’t even ask why. He immediately dispatched several Spiritual System superpower users with relatively strong combat skills. Their task was to go out and drag back those who were on the verge of losing their fighting ability and couldn’t retreat on their own.

”Everyone outside the gate, get in! Everyone inside, fall back! All of you, move back and make space for the people at the front!”

Qin Ling began directing everyone swiftly and methodically. He understood Tang Mo’s move; he had felt the spiritual attack as well.

This Super High-level Mutant Beast was a Spiritual System type, and this spiritual attack was its primary method of attack.

The last spiritual attack wasn’t particularly strong and hadn’t caused any major, direct damage.

But it created a powerful distraction. And one had to remember, the Super High-level Mutant Beast wasn’t fighting alone; it had all those underlings.

Just a small amount of interference from it was enough to influence the entire battlefield.

Besides, that spiritual attack was only the first wave...

’This is a huge problem.’

At Qin Ling’s words, with Lao Er and his men helping to maintain order, the crowd packed behind the gate retreated in unison.

Those who had squeezed out the door but hadn’t yet joined the fight from behind the electric fence also pulled back.

”Everyone engaged with the mutant beasts, fall back toward the base gate! We’ll deal with them at the entrance.”

Many were still locked in combat, either evenly matched with the mutant beasts or even being pushed back, wanting to retreat but unable to disengage.

The disorienting physical sensations made it impossible to focus on fighting, and they were growing frantic.

Hearing Qin Ling’s command, they all began a fighting retreat toward the base gate.

As they neared the electric fence, Lao San and his men would force the mutant beasts back, allowing the retreating fighters to hurry inside.

Dealing with the mutant beasts at the gate was too time-consuming; it was a luxury they couldn’t afford.

Most of the superpower users were now back inside the base, and the entire horde of mutant beasts was crammed up against the electric fence.

”Hurry! Get inside!”

The last few people burst through the electric fence, leading a few mutant beasts with them.

Lao San and his group also fell back behind the electric fence. The moment the last person on the battlefield was behind the fence, it was activated.

The fence had been shut down to let the base’s forces out, and it hadn’t been reactivated after the crowd surged through.

Now, with the last few people back, the electric fence was activated once more.

The charging Mutant Beast Group hesitated for a split second, slowing its pursuit.

That brief pause gave the last few people a chance to breathe. Lao San’s group quickly repelled the few mutant beasts that had broken through the fence line, then escorted the nearly exhausted fighters through the main gate of the base.

As soon as everyone was inside, the base’s main gate was slammed shut.

At that very moment, the second spiritual attack came.

The farther away one was, the weaker the force of the spiritual attack.

Those who had remained inside only felt a sharp, piercing pain in their heads for an instant before quickly recovering.

But for those who had just returned from the battlefield, who had already taken one spiritual attack at close range, the second wave was devastating. They collapsed to the ground, one after another.

The pain... it was excruciating. So agonizing they couldn’t even stay on their feet.

It seemed the damage from the spiritual attacks was cumulative if they hit in quick succession.

Thank goodness for Tang Mo; he had gotten them to retreat just in time.

Otherwise, if they were still on the battlefield, every last one of them who now couldn’t even stand would never have made it back alive.

Tang Mo could sense it—the soul fox’s spiritual power was no longer focused on control, but purely on attack.

The Soul Beast had no intention of controlling these humans; it knew that would be too difficult and would consume too much time and spiritual power.

It just wanted to temporarily incapacitate everyone here.

That way, the Advanced Mutant Beasts under its control could breach the gate as quickly as possible.
