Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 235: Chapter 225: Terrifying Night

Let me analyze this Chinese web novel Chapter:

## Contextual Analysis:

Literary genre: This appears to be a dark thriller/suspense web novel set in some kind of apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic world (”末世” is mentioned). There are themes of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Language style: The language is straightforward narrative prose with dialogue. It’s descriptive but not overly flowery.

Tone: Serious, tense, with a dark undertone. The scenes describe a human trafficking operation where women are being exploited.

Plot keywords: human trafficking, captivity, escape, infiltration, surveillance, sexual exploitation, post-apocalyptic world

Characters:

- Tang Mo (唐末) - Female protagonist, seems to have special abilities like ”spiritual power” that allows her to sense things others can’t. She appears to be infiltrating a trafficking operation.

- Gu Yirou (顾怡柔) - Female, someone who was kidnapped along with her younger sister. She seems more refined/educated than the other captives.

- Gu Yining (顾怡宁) - Gu Yirou’s 5-year-old sister who was also kidnapped and is being held in another warehouse.

- Brother Hu (虎哥) - Male, appears to be the leader of the trafficking operation.

- Sister Ling (玲姐) - Female, seems to be one of the higher-status women in the warehouse, possibly with some relationship to Brother Hu.

## Now I’ll translate while applying all the specified rules:

The text describes a situation where women are being held captive in a warehouse and being used for sexual services. Tang Mo is using her special abilities to infiltrate and investigate this operation. She’s following some women who have been selected for ”service” that night to gather intelligence.

I notice this is part of a larger narrative as there are references to earlier events (like Tang Mo meeting a little girl earlier, who might be Gu Yining).

Let me now translate line by line:

”Sister? Your sister is here too?”

”She was captured with me and is being held in the warehouse next door. She’s only five years old. If I hadn’t insisted on taking her out of the city to play that day, this wouldn’t have happened...”

Mentioning her sister, Gu Yirou’s emotions clearly crumbled as she fell into endless self-blame.

Her sister was so young, and she had no idea how she was doing now.

”What’s your sister’s name?”

Tang Mo suddenly recalled the defiant look in the eyes of the little girl who had bumped into her earlier today.

’Impossible,’ she thought. ’How could a family like Gu Yirou’s raise such a stubborn child? I must be overthinking this.’

”Gu Yining.”

Tang Mo hadn’t heard this name before, so she dropped the subject.

When Sister Ling returned, it was already past nine. She hadn’t been gone long before coming back—apparently, she had been away too long, and Brother Hu no longer had a place for her.

She returned clearly angry, slamming things around before climbing into her bed.

Seeing Sister Ling return in such a state, the women didn’t even dare to breathe loudly.

But when ten o’clock came, what was inevitable still happened—no one could escape it.

In the darkness, the warehouse door opened with a creak.

By now, the lights in the warehouse had long been turned off. They only heard a man at the door calling out several names.

The women whose names were called rustled as they put on their clothes and went out.

Whether willing or not, they had no way to resist.

The body of the last person who resisted was buried under the big tree behind the warehouse. The bloodstains were still on the warehouse floor, not yet cleaned up.

From the moment the door opened, Tang Mo could clearly feel Gu Yirou’s body begin to shrink beside her.

She trembled with each name that was called, only fully relaxing when the last one was finally announced.

Gu Yirou was so out of place here, yet no one had touched her in all this time. That meant they wouldn’t do so easily.

Brother Hu must have other plans for her.

The warehouse was pitch black, with the door now open. At this hour, not a single person was asleep; everyone lay in the darkness with eyes wide open, waiting for the verdict of fate.

Just as the women whose names were called got out of bed, Tang Mo also secretly got up and slipped out of her bed.

Her position was concealed, and her movements were light—naturally, no one noticed her in the pitch-black environment.

However, Gu Yirou, who was closest to her and mentally on high alert, still noticed. Tang Mo turned back and made a hushing gesture toward her.

Gu Yirou immediately understood and made a gesture of zipping her lips.

Good.

Tang Mo quietly followed behind the women who were leaving and slipped out the main door.

At ten o’clock, the sky outside was also dark.

Two men had come to collect the women, and only one of them carried a flashlight with an already weak beam.

At this moment, the man with the flashlight was crouching under the big tree outside.

There was a stench inside the warehouse, and if not absolutely necessary, he wouldn’t want to enter.

Only the other man stood at the warehouse door, waiting for the called women to come out.

The base had only about thirty women in total. For ”sustainable development,” they were rotated on a schedule.

The enclosure had only one exit, guarded 24 hours a day, so they weren’t worried about anyone escaping.

Even if someone got out of the warehouse, they couldn’t get past the fence.

If they truly had the ability to escape, they wouldn’t have been captured so easily in the first place.

Trying to escape meant being beaten to death if caught, so no one would do anything so foolish. They were very confident about this.

Tang Mo was precisely taking advantage of this habitual thinking when she secretly followed the women out of the warehouse door, then quickly ducked behind another large tree while the man was counting heads.

The man with the flashlight was still complaining about how troublesome this job was and naturally paid no attention to the movement.

”1, 2, 3, 4, 5. All here. Let’s go. Get cleaned up first, then start working.”

After counting and confirming the numbers, the man led the women toward the higher-end houses in the center.

Tang Mo quietly followed behind them.

The smell inside the warehouse was truly overwhelming, and living with those women had been unbearable.

She didn’t want to subject herself to that discomfort anymore, so she decided to take initiative, resolve the situation quickly, and leave as soon as possible.

When they reached the building, the two men handed the five women over to another man guarding the entrance, then left to go to sleep.

The man at the door was clearly used to this routine and skillfully led the women inside.

Tang Mo was surprised to see that the entrance was now completely empty—security was remarkably lax.

Thinking about it, she could understand why. After all, these late-night transactions weren’t exactly honorable affairs.

Even in this post-apocalyptic world, under these circumstances, many people still felt uncomfortable about openly conducting such business.

Coming quietly and leaving quietly was the best service Brother Hu provided.

She had to admit, this Brother Hu had a good business mind.

Tang Mo increasingly felt that she shouldn’t underestimate the leader of this gang.

A few minutes after they entered, Tang Mo quietly slipped into the building.

The building had two floors, with rooms arranged very simply—a long corridor with seven or eight rooms.

The entire corridor was quiet, with sounds coming only from the first room nearest to the entrance.

Tang Mo found a corner to hide in, then used her spiritual power to investigate.

In the first room, each of the five women had a basin in front of them, and they were washing their faces and bodies.

After cleaning themselves, they each chose a white bathrobe from a row hanging on a rack in the room and put it on, wearing nothing underneath.

The man who had led them in gave each woman a number tag, with each number corresponding to a room number.

There were six ”working” rooms on the first floor and only one on the second floor.

Tang Mo used her spiritual power to check the number tags the five women were holding. One woman indeed held the number one tag.

That woman had very pale skin, was quite thin, and had delicate features. Compared to the other women, her figure and face were indeed a cut above.

After the women had washed up and changed clothes, they each went to their assigned rooms.

Tang Mo didn’t follow them in but continued using her spiritual power to monitor the situation in each room.

Shortly after the women entered their rooms, several men came in from outside the building one after another, each going to a different room.

Meanwhile, Tang Mo’s spiritual power remained focused on the single room on the second floor.
