Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 214: Chapter 204: Mutant Beasts Attack the City

’Beasts of a higher level than Advanced Mutant Beasts?’

Tang Mo recalled the mutant beasts she had seen in the rainforest. The very first one, a crocodile, already knew how to set traps; it had clearly developed intelligence and consciousness.

Later, the Xing Clan on the mountain could even speak, think, and were organized and disciplined.

Other than their appearance, they were basically no different from a human tribe. Moreover, the physical prowess of the mutant beasts far surpassed that of humans—something humanity could never compete with.

This mutant beast siege gave Tang Mo a bad feeling.

The evolutionary speed of the mutant beasts was simply too fast. ’It would be fine if there were only a few ultra-high-level mutant beasts in the world, but that’s impossible.’

Statistically speaking, Tang Mo herself had already encountered several Ultra-high-level mutant beasts.

This meant that a terrifying number of Ultra-high-level mutant beasts already existed in the world.

She couldn’t imagine how terrifying the world would become if all mutant beasts evolved to that state.

’Is that the more terrifying world mentioned in the email?’

At this moment, Tang Mo was still unaware that the accelerated evolution of the mutant beasts was related to the Spiritual Light Ball being taken.

The five attribute light balls were like five centers of gravity stabilizing the world.

Once any one of them was removed, the world’s energy would leak out again, causing the strength of the mutant beasts to skyrocket.

But if humans didn’t absorb those attribute light balls and convert the energy inside into their own power, the mutant beasts would still slowly increase in strength, ultimately leading to the same dreadful outcome.

Now, humanity’s best bet might be to go all-in, shifting from a passive to an active role to seize the initiative.

However, the human who obtained an Energy Attribute Light Ball now shouldered a greater mission.

They were destined to do something for all of humanity to survive in this world—and they had to do more.

”Xiao Tao, stay here and protect Mom and Yangyang for me. Call me immediately if anything happens. I’m going out.”

The mutant beasts outside had already begun their assault on the base. Tang Mo couldn’t just sit at home and do nothing while waiting.

There was a reason the Alliance had chosen this location in S City.

The fault-line terrain, backed by mountains on three sides, forced the mutant beasts to attack only from the front gate.

As long as the mutant beasts didn’t break through, the inside of the base would remain safe. With so many guards and Xiao Tao here, Tang Mo wasn’t worried about the safety of her mother and brother.

Their fates were all tied together—if the walls fell, the base was doomed. Tang Mo knew in her heart that dealing with the mutant beasts outside was the most pressing matter.

The gates of S Base were sealed tight. An army composed of superpower users stood in neat formation inside the base, ready for battle.

Most of them were superpower users with Strength and agility attributes.

A few were Spirit Attribute Superpower Users serving as long-range sentinels.

Most Spiritual Ability Users couldn’t even properly use a spiritual power boost, let alone learned skills like materializing spiritual power for attacks or Spirit Healing.

Therefore, for Spiritual Ability Users, scouting was their most commonly used skill.

From this perspective, calling them Mages was an overestimation.

After all, scouting alone had zero attack power.

Superpower users with the Life Attribute were extremely rare in this formation. Most of them had been soldiers or people with exceptional physical fitness and special skills before the apocalypse.

In group combat, the Life attribute value was considered the most useless attribute.

After all, if someone had an average physique and no special skills, a high Life Attribute alone wasn’t enough to be a good tank.

They couldn’t deal damage, nor could they withstand enemy attacks. Just having a health bar and not dying was pointless.

Within S Base, there were four tall watchtowers used for observing the situation outside.

At this moment, Qin Ling, Wen Jianshu, and Li Xian, as the highest leaders of the base, were all standing on the watchtower closest to the main gate, observing the movements of the Mutant Beast Group.

The Mutant Beast Group was already very close. Looking out, one could see with the naked eye the dust storm kicked up by their charge.

It was rushing toward them like a small sandstorm.

Below the watchtower, the dozen or so members of Qin Ling’s Mist Team stood in a neat row.

When they saw Tang Mo approach, they all shouted in unison, ”Greetings, Sister-in-law!”

The shout was so loud that the people on the watchtower heard it and looked down.

”Momo, what are you doing here? Didn’t I tell you to stay home with your mother?”

Seeing Tang Mo arrive, Wen Jianshu’s first thought was that his wife was home alone.

”Home is only safe if it’s safe out here. If we can’t defend the walls, there’s no safety to speak of.”

Neither of them spoke loudly, but because they were both Spiritual Ability Users, they could hear each other clearly.

Tang Mo was very satisfied with Wen Jianshu’s first reaction.

She and Uncle Wen weren’t related by blood, so as long as he treated her mother well, it relieved a major worry for Tang Mo.

For Tang Mo, Wen Jianshu’s greatest value was that he could protect her mother in her stead, allowing her to venture out and increase her strength without worry.

On closer thought, Tang Mo’s words made a lot of sense. Dealing with the mutant beasts outside the walls was indeed the most important thing right now.

Below the watchtower, Lao Er made way for Tang Mo, letting her go up.

The top of the watchtower was quite spacious, easily accommodating a dozen people. Tang Mo glanced up and started climbing the stairs.

”Who’s that woman?”

”Can’t you see the three family bosses are up there talking? Why is she going up?”

”Lao Er let her up, right? She must have some serious backing.”

”No way. No matter how much backing she has, in a situation like this, isn’t letting a woman go up just asking for trouble?”

Seeing a woman ascend the watchtower, whispers broke out from the ranks of the army formation standing at the ready.

They were some distance from the watchtower and hadn’t clearly heard what Qin Ling’s men had called Tang Mo.

To them, women were naturally the weaker sex—a burden, a liability, and most of all, trouble.

In their minds, all women should be hiding at home at a time like this, waiting for the battle to end.

Lao Er heard the commotion from the nearby troops and gave Lao San a look, signaling him to handle it.

Lao San nodded in understanding and walked over to the formation.

Besides the base’s security, Lao San was also the main person in charge of the garrisoned troops.

Not a single person in these troops didn’t fear the powerful and hot-tempered Xu the Third.

”Every single one of you, shut the fuck up!”

A man who could drill a group of soldiers was obviously not going to be gentle.

Lao San walked over and bellowed at the top of his lungs, and the entire formation instantly fell silent.
