Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 215: Chapter 205: Guarding Our Home

”Do you know who that is up there?”

None of the soldiers spoke.

’Who else could it be? Just some pampered young miss or little princess from one of the big families, getting all curious at a critical moment like this. She should really consider the situation.’

”That’s the number one person on the Huaxia rankings! You can complain when you’re in her position.”

Lao San didn’t mention that Tang Mo was his leader’s wife.

After all, for a group of men—and powerful men at that—the title ”Qin Ling’s woman” wasn’t enough to command their respect.

But being number one on the Huaxia rankings—that would shut everyone up.

”Tang Mo???”

Someone in the formation couldn’t help but blurt out the name.

Lao San glanced at the man, then turned and walked away without a word.

He left behind the formation of soldiers, now silent as the grave, who could only stare at each other in bewilderment.

’That’s the person who surpassed the base leader, Qin Ling! She’s number one on the Huaxia rankings, the one with the most right to be on that watchtower.’

’If the number one person on the Huaxia rankings wasn’t even qualified to join the fight, then what right did nobodies like them have to be standing here? They might as well go home and look after the kids.’

In fact, when the rankings updated at dawn and showed their leader’s wife had surpassed the boss to become number one in Huaxia, Qin Ling’s own squad was the quickest in the entire Alliance to accept it.

After a brief moment of surprise, they quickly accepted the fact that she was now Huaxia’s number one.

In their hearts, they had long since come to revere Tang Mo as a godlike figure.

Although surpassing their boss so quickly seemed a bit incredible...

But when it came to her, it was acceptable.

Yep. Not surprising at all.

After Tang Mo climbed the watchtower, Qin Ling pulled her to his side. His meaning was obvious.

’She’s with me. Watch yourselves.’

Wen Jianshu and Li Xian were both old foxes. They understood the implication perfectly.

Besides, Tang Mo was part of the Wen Family, so up on the watchtower, Li Xian was the only true outsider to her.

When Tang Mo had called just a moment ago, Qin Ling’s first instinct was not to tell her about the danger. He just wanted to keep her protected, safe and sound.

But the moment she appeared, Qin Ling knew he had been wrong.

His darling wasn’t some delicate flower needing his protection, but a partner who could fight shoulder-to-shoulder with him.

He should have trusted her and treated her as an equal. That was the best way to love her.

”Seventy-eight High-level Mutant Beasts and one Super High-level Mutant Beast, for a total of seventy-nine. At their current speed and distance, they will be at the gates of S Base in another twelve minutes.”

Tang Mo was now, without a doubt, Huaxia’s number one Spiritual Ability User.

If Spiritual Ability Users were the sentinels, then Tang Mo was Huaxia’s finest.

As one of the base’s leaders, Li Xian obviously already knew who was number one on the rankings.

Although no one knew the full extent of Tang Mo’s power—or even what type of superpower user she was—at this moment, no one doubted a word she said.

”Seventy-eight High-level Mutant Beasts... I’m afraid those one hundred Superpower Soldiers will struggle to handle them,” Li Xian estimated aloud.

Ordinarily, a single High-level Mutant Beast was a mission target for an entire Superpower Squad.

Only an exceptionally powerful superpower user could slay a High-level Mutant Beast single-handedly.

Clearly, the individual combat prowess of the base’s Superpower Army had not yet reached that level.

”And on top of that, there’s a Super High-level Mutant Beast,” Wen Jianshu added, his voice laced with worry. ”This is the first time a beast of that level has ever appeared. We have no idea how strong it is.”

Past mutant beast sieges were like child’s play compared to this.

”We should summon every superpower user in the base. This concerns everyone, after all,” Wen Jianshu suggested.

S Base was enormous. Both its population and its density had reached frightening levels.

The one hundred Superpower Soldiers were merely the Alliance’s formal troops; they didn’t represent the Alliance’s full strength.

The vast S Base was full of hidden masters; there were certainly more superpower users than just these.

”There’s no time.”

Qin Ling glanced at his ID Watch.

’Momo just said the mutant beasts would arrive in twelve minutes. Now there are only seven left.’

The Alliance was too large; gathering all of its superpower users in such a short time was no simple task.

”Lao Er, have our people at home base broadcast a message to every ID in the base with an attribute value over 500. Tell them: Super High-level Mutant Beast attacking. Come at once.”

Qin Ling activated the communication function on his ID Watch and gave the order to Lao Er, who was standing at the base of the tower.

”Home,” of course, referred to the Qinling Team’s base in the villa district, which was staffed around the clock.

The computers there could access the ID Watch’s backend system.

Although the ID Watch system was no longer centrally controlled, some functions—like communication, data statistics, and location tracking—still worked.

This Mutant Beast Group consisted entirely of High-level Beasts, so it would be a suicide mission for any superpower user with a low attribute value. Qin Ling was being thorough, setting the requirement at an attribute value of 500.

As of today, the 100th-ranked person in Huaxia had an attribute value of over 2,000.

So there were still quite a lot of superpower users with an attribute value over 500.

”Until they arrive, it’s up to us to defend our home.”

Qin Ling watched as the sandstorm drew ever closer to the base, his gaze resolute.

”Does the base have any perimeter defenses?”

’A large base like this ought to have some hidden defensive measures around its perimeter for security.’

”There’s an electric fence and a firewall, positioned about three meters out from the gate.”

Wen Jianshu explained to Tang Mo. These were their last lines of defense.

Three meters.

’Three meters,’ Tang Mo calculated silently. ’At that distance, the defenses are designed purely to stop the mutant beasts from leaping over them.’

’If the beasts charged straight through, those two layers of defense would barely scratch the hides of High-level Mutant Beasts. At best, it would only slow their advance through the gate for a moment.’

’To put it more bluntly, the two defensive layers were like a tripwire. They might make the charging High-level Mutant Beasts stumble for a second, but they were useless for anything else.’

’Still, it’s better than nothing.’

Soon, the horde of mutant beasts appeared on the horizon.

The more than seventy High-level Mutant Beasts came in all shapes and sizes, so varied they didn’t look like they belonged to the same species. Their combined charge made the very earth RUMBLE, a terrifying sight to behold.

Standing atop the watchtower, Tang Mo watched the mutant beasts stampede in her direction. It was like watching a horror movie.
