Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 201: Chapter 191: Human Sentry

Unfortunately for him, this time he had offended Qin Ling and run into Tang Mo.

No matter how perfect the plan, it was ultimately doomed to fail.

After clearing out the people outside the cave, Tang Mo stepped over the still-bleeding corpses and slowly pressed her body close to the entrance.

She listened carefully to the sounds coming from within.

”If you don’t hand it over now, your two daughters are dead. You don’t have much time to hesitate.”

The Wildman Tribe Chief’s voice rang out from inside the cave.

Tang Mo peeked her head in to look, but unfortunately, the twenty-odd people inside blocked the view completely, not leaving even a sliver of a gap.

Left with no choice, Tang Mo could only send out her spiritual power to act as her eyes.

She could see, but that meant the others couldn’t watch any of the show.

She gave Qin Ling and the others an apologetic look, then focused intently on what was happening inside.

Qin Ling and his men all knew how long Tang Mo had patiently waited for today’s show, so they certainly wouldn’t deprive her of this little pleasure.

Besides, they were all men and had no interest in watching gossip.

They just smoked and waited patiently for Tang Mo, not far from the cave entrance.

Qin Ling stood with his brothers, leaning against a large tree and smoking.

”Bro, Sis-in-law is so close. What if she’s suddenly discovered and gets into trouble? There are so many people in there.”

Xiao Shiqi worriedly asked Number Two, who was also his biological brother.

It was Sis-in-law who had pulled him back from the brink of death, so his concern for her was genuine.

’Why isn’t the Boss even a little bit worried, seeing Sis-in-law doing something so dangerous?’

’Doesn’t the Boss love Sis-in-law the most?’

”Worry about Sis-in-law? Ten of you couldn’t even take on one of her. Stop wasting your energy worrying.”

Number Two glanced at their sis-in-law, who was pressed against the wall, a look of keen interest on her face.

She wasn’t some ordinary woman; she was the kind of woman who could hold up the sky all by herself.

She didn’t need anyone else to get things done perfectly.

Tang Mo hid most of her body at the cave’s entrance, watching the scene inside through her spiritual power.

Inside the cave, besides the Wildman Tribe Chief and his twenty-odd trusted subordinates, Ah Mao’s family of four was also there.

However, Da Hua and Xiao Hua were each being held by several men, restrained off to one side.

Meanwhile, Ah Mao, close beside his wife, angrily pounded the ground with both fists, shaking the cave and kicking up a cloud of dust.

”Don’t you treasure these two daughters of yours? You don’t want to see them die in front of you, do you?”

The chief of the Xing Clan was utterly devoted to his daughters and would do anything for them. This was the most crucial piece of information Abu had brought back.

”Don’t hurt them!”

At the mention of his daughters, Ah Mao drew back his hands, a thread of nervousness now mixed with his anger.

”Daddy, Daddy...”

Xiao Hua was just a cub who had recently learned to speak. The scene terrified her, and she stretched out her two long arms, wanting her daddy and mommy to hold her.

”Don’t be scared, Xiao Hua. Daddy will hold you soon.”

Even in this situation, Ah Mao did his best to soften his tone and comfort his daughter as much as he could.

Da Hua’s lips were pressed into a tight line. She lowered her head slightly, unwilling to watch what was happening.

She knew that everything happening today was her fault. But she had thought Abu only wanted the treasure; she had never imagined he would actually try to harm them.

”How did you find out about that thing?”

Ah Mao didn’t understand. It was something his ancestors had guarded for generations; even his own clansmen didn’t know about it.

’These humans from the foot of the mountain have only been here for less than two years. How could they have found out?’

”Did you really think no one would know just because you hid it so perfectly? So naive. The first time we came here, we saw something glowing faintly on your mountaintop. And with apes that can talk, how could there not be a treasure?”

It was a coincidence. The very first day this group of humans arrived was also the beginning of the apocalypse, precisely when the abnormal treasures were absorbing the energy of the world’s essence and undergoing a transformation.

The treasure on this mountain happened to emit a strange light, which the people below noticed.

However, the chief’s deduction that the talking apes meant there was a treasure was purely a blind squirrel finding a nut.

Because in a little while, he would discover that many more mutant beasts were beginning to speak.

That is, if he lived long enough to see it.

”So that’s how it was...”

Ah Mao stood there, stock-still and silent.

After what felt like an eternity,

”I cannot give you that thing.”

Ultimately, Ah Mao had made his decision.

’I can’t give it to them. The Xing Clan can live without it, but we can’t hand it over to such devious enemies—especially not to these humans who have killed so many of our kind.’

’Even if I hand it over, they won’t spare my clan.’

’Right now, we still have a fighting chance. But if they take that thing, my clansmen and I can only wait for death.’

A chief is a chief, after all. Though not highly intelligent, Ah Mao was still the cleverest of the Xing Clan and could understand a simple truth like this.

’As for my two daughters...’

’Compared to the entire clan, perhaps some sacrifices are worth making.’

Ah Mao looked at the two daughters he had cherished and doted on since birth, and a glistening teardrop instantly slid from the corner of his eye.

’The moment they harm my daughters, I’m ready to erupt and give the signal for our clan to counterattack.’

”It seems our information about you doting on your daughters was wrong. Who knew a father’s heart could be so ruthless?”

Still, it was rather laughable to hear him, of all people, criticize someone else for being a bad father.

”In that case, don’t blame me for being impolite. Let’s start with the older one!”

The chief gestured to the subordinate holding Da Hua.

”Wait, I have something to say.”

Da Hua’s shout brought everything to a temporary halt.

Everyone stopped, waiting to see what the only ape wearing clothes had to say.

”Did you send Abu?”

Da Hua had already looked; Abu was nowhere to be seen in the circle of people before her.

Tang Mo’s spiritual power had also searched for him the moment it locked onto the area, finding Abu’s figure in a corner of the cave nearest to the outside.

”Of course. Otherwise, do you really think he could have climbed this mountain so easily all by himself? We originally just wanted him to scout the path. Who knew you apes were so easy to fool? He just had to say a few words and you believed him.”

From start to finish, Abu had been a scout for the human tribe—a scout who had exceeded his mission objectives.
